Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This could be a big factor. Being in close quarters to your coaches and teammates might not be the best for some people an they want out. Perhaps he saw how other teams operate (ie: Collingwood in the same resort playing finals) and wants what they have.

I have a mate that works for an AFL club in corporate functions, he mentioned a few of the players from his club that don't view footy as their entire life were really battling in the Hub. Some blokes go to training, meetings etc and then have nothing to do with footy outside those commitments, they need to unwind. They don't enjoy being around the boys 24/7.

On radio this morning the discussion was around Carlton, their salary cap and De Goey, however Clarrie got a mention and I bet all managers have been involved. It was stated that as Carlton have paid under their cap the last 2 years they can now pay 5% over for next season and a set period beyond. Their recruiting team set a list of targets that included De Goey and Clarrie as well as Saad and Williams and who else knows. It was then stated that a few weeks ago De Goey was very heavily into Carlton on their promise of money and more midfield time. For those who cannot see where the money is coming from Carlton have been saving and planning this and now making a raid on their targets.

This is the thing that most people don't realise in footy clubs and big business, they are always planning for the future, not reacting on a whim.

Smart planning by Carlton and looks like they have had a good crack at all 4 and landed 2, great result for them

They still have space for 1 more.  DeGoey is not 1 of them as they don’t want the baggage that comes along with him.  They are in the market for a genuine mid and Oliver is definitely in their sights.  They are still not convinced they can get him this year

And as many keep mentioning, if the MFC doesn't improve drastically next year, then it may be too tempting for him to ignore.

Interesting that the whispers about Carlton and Oliver did and do have real substance- confirmed by Carlton themselves and were not just a made up BigFooty rumour like many screamed they were.

It's an interesting topic. Is a player bigger than other personnel or dynamics at a club?

Does Oliver's alleged interest in leaving mean personnel or other things are shifted to suit one (very bloody good) player?

Philosophically I would hope not, he (as everyone is) is merely but a cog in a wheel...

Emotionally though, hmmmmm...

Just spent the last 3 hours at the beach, now have an 8% beer in hand... how good are Monday's on leave ?

Interesting you have two well loved players by their respective clubs, at least until 2018, in tmac and ben brown now being potentially shopped out a few years later as fodder.  Yet people seem to question a players' motivations?? Its a business played by professionals.  I dont blame any player for wanting the best for himself for whatever reason. Family, $$, finals, personnel clash.  Everyone has different motivations. I hope dearly he stays.

Interesting to see a few people opine that a failure to make finals next year would be the catalyst for some of our better players to consider leaving.

Have any of you thought that a failure THIS year might have had the same effect?

Im not in the least surprised that rumours are swirling about the players becoming restless. Success is what all of us want.

The difference is that players can go elsewhere to find that success, whereas the fans are stuck waiting for MFC to break through.

Club is at a crossroads imo.

So if Oliver is [censored] of about not playing in finals why would he go to Carlton?

money maybe, but I’m happy to argue with anyone that they are no closer to success than us.

their midfield is no stronger (would be with Oliver), they have a lesser ruck, no better keys backs, no small forward (after Eddie), average disposal, and young and flaky (and injury prone) key forwards who probably all can’t play in the same team.

After lockdown go to Carlton and see their facilities. It feels like a footy Club. It might also be about selling a vision.

Too true. The Club and some people here were unable to read the tea leaves this season and saw no urgency to our plight.

I reckon he'd be pretty dissapointed in Jack Vineys comments to be totally honest, calling them a selfish midfield, i don't think Oliver is a selfish player,

if that's the feedback the club is giving these guys, i'd find that Staggering, Oliver is one of the best young players the club has ever had and is seemingly considering leaving because the club isn't where it should be on multiple fronts.

If that isn't a good enough reason to sack Goodwin along with the performances i fear he's untouchable.

Would be staggered if we relented and let him go this year, but would imagine they would go even harder next year when they have greater leverage.

Should we be getting in Merrett's ear or Tim Taranto's ahead of any potential need to replace Clarrie? A few good ones coming out of contract next year.'

Man this is a sad lot. Weeks and weeks of gossiping about Viney, analysing how he looked frustrated at the Bnf etc. Nek mennit..5 year contract. Shame on all of you.

So what do you shift your wasted attention to now?? A baseless Oliver rumour. lol.

Does anyone on this forum understand football?

I think you're taking Viney's words and twisting them to suit the narrative you're trying to spin. Viney's comments on the midfield being selfish is more about the bees to the honey-pot idea where too many of our guys seem to dive in to get the ball almost blocking others out of the way. I even remember one point where I think one of our players essentially tackled his own teammate to extract the ball.

I hate to say it but they all do it, Clarry included. The other knock on Oliver (and the midfield) that may not be selfish but it's not a great attitude is to palm off responsibility of the play to other players. I remember one of our closer losses when we had a chance to come back into it he won a free kick in the middle of the ground from the bounce and rather than taking a breath and backing himself he handballed it (poorly I might add) to one of our younger players and put him under totally unnecessary pressure.

Now this talk about Clarry and Carlton is scuttlebutt anyway, but if he has problems than he should do what Trac did and confront the issue and take the necessary steps to become better.

It’s a forum for discussion... about the MFC.... it’s players, coaches, Board, Footy dept... boot studders. People discuss things... it’s part of the forum idea.

Don’t forget about Viney doing a poo instead of singing the team song after beating St Kilda.

I think perhaps Viney should have been more clear if that's what he was trying to say, using the word selfish is very pointed, and i would hope has been explained privately to Clarry.

but if we assume that's the case, then the club really needs to take some responsiblity for the strategy of recruiting competitive animal ball winners who's natural inclination is to do that, it's very difficult to unlearn those habits, and one of our huge issues is that when we're under the pump, players do tend to return to their poor habits and move away from the team structure.

I was in favour of letting Jack Viney walk because i felt he was the one who seemed to have the hardest time turning off the desire to attack the ball in that way, and at times the midfield structure has looked better overall without him in it, that's not to say he's not a good player, i just felt of what we had, he was the one i'd be willing to lose for a better overall balance.

The talk of Clarry to Carlton may be scuttlebutt in the sense that it's unlikely to happen this year, but i do think we face a battle to keep him from 2021 onwards if we have another year like we did this year, we can't be missing finals with a full list, and i think Clarry is one of the few who, despite having a slightly down year, could walk away proud of his efforts over the season.

Well it's like a bunch of headless chooks running around. We already know he is staying so the only reason I can understand there is a thread on this is of people have a sick fetish that they enjoy dreaming up trades that arent happening.

Why can't we focus on the head coach who actually will be leaving in 2021.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
