Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Theyre both duds and  always have been.  And yes I know your post is 18 months old,  but I could have told you the exact same thing then.

Delist both.  Classic list cloggers.

Its interesting that we re-signed 8 players last year:

-Josh Wagner

-Joel Smith

-Corey Wagner

-Oskar Baker

-Kade Chandler

-Kyle Dunkley

-Jay Lockhart

-Alex Neal-Bullen

3 of those players are now gone, with more of those potentially to come this year. Just wondering whether we need to review our list management strategies, as we seem to be handing out extensions quite easily (Goodwin, Harmes etc.)

Honestly mate, is there really a need to bring up threads from 12 months ago? You know you can just put this in the 'Delisting' thread discussing all matters such as this?

No chance, he didn't show he had the tools in his 5 games. You could tell when you saw rivers/jackson play that they had afl traits from game 1.

I think is a definite to join the Bulldogs if he isn’t picked up earlier... They would have picked him mid-season last year if we hadn’t.

I am disappointed we delisted him. It shows how poor Melbourne is at developing players. He would want out anyway knowing he will land at the Dogs. I’m sure he will be happy and become a very decent player during his football career.

No qualms with the decision. Best of luck to all 3.

I hope they’ve put some thought into and prepared for their post footy careers as a I can’t see them getting picked up by other clubs. It’s a tough time to be looking for work.

aren't you a genius. first round draft picks look better than mid season draft top up players.  you need to have a 45th player on your list.  quite likely they won't make it.  we gave him a crack and he didnt make it.  we move on

Its a tough time, i get angry at the players i get angry at the club but after it all settles, I love the club and hate seeing players depart. The Wagner boys looked like great fellas, popular teammates and they had a red hot dip, good on them. Dunkley got an opportunity which is more than lots of people, he should be proud.

I think there will be 3 more to go shortly and then they might sit on it for a while. Im convinced they will try and get something for Oscar.

Agree. Irrespective of opinions about the merits of a player, always a sad time to see players depart and the end of individual aspirations and dreams.

Its a time for supporters to be generous in their comments about players.

At the end of the day, they are being sacked, and for the individual that brings a lot of disappointment and grief.

With more delistings to follow, there will be a lot more grief involving the players, their teammates and their families.

Lets use social media in a respectful and positive way by thanking them for their efforts. At the end of the day they are good human beings and have for a short part of their life been Demons.

Disappointing year for all those delisted. Most have had little or no opportunity to prove themselves.  By in large selectors have stuck to the same group of players, in some cases, irrespective of form. Opinions can be formed by past seasons and training form, but there is nothing like current match day form to guide selection. Very frustrating for those discarded. There are others who have enjoyed considerable time on the list but based on form could be on the delist but will survive to fight another day.

It is going to be interesting to see the outcome for a number of higher profile top 22 players.

Best of luck to all three and congratulations for making it onto an AFL list. That in itself is no mean feat.

A few  statistics that may be of interest is that the median number of games for all players in 19 and that only a third of drafted players ever play 50 games.

Only one in six make it to a hundred games.

For these reasons I would hate to see the AFL skimp on career and transition counselling for all players in these hard times.

Good luck and thanks to these three.  Suggest they are the first batch - that had little or no perceived market value to other clubs, so were not held pending suitors.  I think the Wagner boys will succeed in the second tier comp, and maybe Kyle gets picked up by virtue of his family name (his bro goes OK) by another AFL outfit.

No One has a crystal ball.  The club has to consider the upside potential of who they contract, as well as decide if they are better than what else might be available.  SOme are always going to do better than expected (Jason Taylor is Genius!) and some worse (Jason Taylor is a Bust!).  Simply put, there is always going to be a fringe of developing/potential players, many of whom come onto the list with later picks or ad DFA/SPP type arrangements.  A lot of luck goes into this whole process, and you really cant cut 8 from the list and not replace them with nothing - gotta always look to improve the list. If you dont have 8 high picks, then it makes no sense to cut 8 low cost fringe dwellers and replace them with...8 low cost fringe dwellers.

would suggest from your list Baker and Lockhart are definite improvers, ANB still good value and Joel smith a mystery.  Plenty to like in Chandler as well.  Not a bad strike rate from the human lucky dip that is drafting.

Interesting observation. I thought I saw a bit with Dunkley. A few times he kicked to a spot where the player needed to run to to mark the ball. It didnt work as our boys were wanting it directly. Made him look bad.  Good luck to the three of the boys. They are all good footy players and tried their best. All we can ask.

I too would have kept Billy Stretch as well besides Josh Wagner.

Thought Stretch was good depth for the wing.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
