Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Delistings

This is not a year to be doing a massive list cull. We have no first round pick, the draft is heavily compromised and will be a chook raffle given no junior footy. We would be better to go with minimum wage one-year deals on current players or DFA than lock ourselves in to two year deals from the draft.

The more reputable journos have suggest list sizes will come down by about 4-5, not double digits. So we need to balance that with our current draft hand which is (as it stands right now): 23, 47, 62, 63, 83... And players we lose/gain to trade or free agency.

Hypothetically would suggest pick 23 and TMac gets us Saad.

Another 'mystery' player or 2 going gets us say late 2nd/early 3rd rounders, let's guess and say 36 and 40 (for the sake of hypotheticals).

Would then add to that some kind of key forward free agent.

That would leave us with say 3 players out, 2 players and 2 picks in. Draft would be 36, 40, 47 (and I would say we wouldn't use the picks after that).

So that's net 4 players more in, 4-5 list spots from the reduction, so we could be looking at 8-9 delistings (including any retirements) potentially.

Jeepers, people are suggesting a lot of changes. 10 is a lot to go off your primary list at this stage in our evolution. Possible, I guess.

Our team across the past few years has been too sympathetically retentive. Yes, there is such a thing when you think about it. A good cleanout is required, beginning with Goodwin and all of his coaching marvel men. These creatures have been given adequate free rein to achieve something with the MFC and have nothing - absolutely zilch - to show for the trust we held for them. Season 2021 must now be another rebuild with a greater focus on success and footballer/team development. All the de-listings mentioned so far have been justifiable. Perhaps these should all take place.

A decision has to be made on Goodwin and/or Mahoney before list changes are contemplated since they are the ones making the changes.  If we see wholesale changes quickly then I think you can bet bottom dollar Goodwin is staying.  If we are going to a new coach then that coach will want to have input on the list and it's likely that there will be far fewer changes while he takes a year to make assessments.

That is plainly true. A process of selective and applied intent to be reflected.

I just wonder who Jordan Lewis, as our new coach, would prefer for the INs and the OUTs?

Absolutely this.  The draft is compromised and with the various academy and father sons around a mid to late 40s pick will be up close to the 60s.  We would likely be delisting average players for draft picks whose ceiling will also be average, if they ever hit it.  I'm all for some serious list changes, but  going to the backend of the draft this year is the sort of optimistic thinking that'll net us another few wasted years.

It is interesting trying to guess.  We have no line of sight on any of the list and what the coaches think without VFL action.  Before the last 2 weeks, Baker would have been on people’s chopping block, but now he is a ‘retain’.

don't think so, cos he's got a year to run on his contract as do two likely 'retirement' options in kk and jetta

There is absolutely no chance that we'll sack Goodwin and replace him with Jordan Lewis who has never coached a day of football.

Wagners x 2

Chandler

Dunkley

Nev*

Jones*

Bedford

Oscar

Kolo

That's 9 changes straight up, that's a lot and enough to let us refresh the list.

Also Pruess TRADE TO GWS

Tom Mc to explore options

That could be 11 changes. we dont want to many as much as we need a clean out. With Jones and Nev going and possibly Tom it allows some cap space.

Surely the decision on Goodwin has already been made and he is staying. We can't afford to sack him. And Mahoney has done ok in building a list and this has to be the worst time to change that role.

Sorry Dd. I find your analysis very good but really?

Yeah he's got a good case to stay on the list Deever. I was torn on him hence why I had the ?? Next to his name. His game on the weekend was very impressive. Far better then anything McDonald has done in the last 6 months.

Upon reflection, I'd re-sign him.

Yes it surely has, but if there is a change it would be yet to be announced, we were possibly playing finals about 12 hours ago.

I think Goodwin will stay unless Bartlett and Pert have Clarkson in a hat.

I agree Mahoney has done a very good job but he and the club may feel it's time to move on.

It will be an interesting week.

I think it will be a boring week (as per the last 6 months). The Hawks would have to release Clarkson from his contract. Why would they do that?

And changing the list manager at this point would be crazy IMO. He might be moved on, but not until the draft and contracts are done this offseason.

I can't see it happening either but they may feel a bit change could be a good thing for their club at this time.

If Clarkson wants us, and he and the president don't see eye to eye, why would they hold onto him? Their list is in a rebuild mode. Now is the perfect time for Clarkson to go if he doesn't want to rebuild a list from scratch.

I am not saying this will happen, but I am saying that if Clarkson wants out, Hawks won't force his hand, given their performance this season and where there list is at.

At this stage the initial delistings will be out of contract players who will not be offered a contract next year. So from the list people are posting many are contracted players. Nietscke has been promised a 1 yr contract next season & Bratdke is a category B who is seperate. Can we have someone post an updated contract status as I believe there were 20 contracts expiring at the end of October.

if you look at it every single club has roughly 8 list changes every season on average from premiers right through to spooners. + an extra 2 for the shrinking of list sizes its pretty realistic, and u cant say theres not 10 players on our list that shouldn't leave

Thankyou Turner

From that list I can see Bedford,, Hore, Oscar, J. Wagner not getting contracts for next year. Rookies let go but maybe re rookies may be Dunkley,  Chandler, C Wagner and Bennell may have just shot himself in the foot. Any other movement will be subject to trade, retirement or a request to leave. IMO

No-one here can make a sensible call on Jordon, Nietschke, Chandler, Dunkley or Bradtke given the season we've had and the fact that we haven't been able to see them play.  The FD however will know what they want to do.

In a season without the benefit of vfl games I doubt Kade Chandler would be delisted

I would delist both Wagner's and both McDonald's.

I was impressed with his tenacity in his one game in 2019.

Agreed lack of VFL has hurt him this year. Wouldn't rule him out just yet but all depends on list sizes and the like.

I hear it’s likely to be 37 + 3 rookies.  That’s a reduction from 44-46 for most clubs do I think to see 10 blokes delisted is perhaps to be expected.

OK the 3 rookies I would take are Neitschke (demoted), Brown, Bradtke (rookie B to rookie A).

The 37 listed players would be May, Salem, Harmes, Petracca, Jackson, Viney, Lever, Spargo, Brayshaw, Gawn, Bedford, Oliver, Hibberd, Langdon, Melksham, Hannan, Tomlinson, vandenBerg, Jordon, Rivers, Weideman, Hunt, Neal-Bullen, Fritsch, Sparrow, Baker, Hore, Petty, Pickett, Jetta, Lockhart, Smith 3 draft picks 2 trades\FA.

Delist Jones, Kolodjashnij (has to retire can't afford to carry a player with his mental concerns), Bennell (rookie), O.McDonald, Chandler (rookie), C.Wagner (rookie), J.Wagner, Dunkley (rookie)

Trade Preuss, T.McDonald

The AFL will not slash list sizes, they will be reduced gradually, by about 2 this year and 2 next year and maybe 1 the third year, is my guess.

I don’t think that is the case.   Its not confirmed but it’s looking like 38 primary list and 2 rookies.  The players association is the one holding it up.
If they don’t agree then in 2-3 year list sizes could be as low as 34

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
