Do we need a gun full forward or a midfield that enables a decent forward to run on to the lead? I still suspect that it's the latter. Whether you're a fan or not, Weid's best games have been when players up the field have honoured the lead. Funnily enough, that's the case with most forwards.

As for Jeremy Cameron, I'd argue that he's struggled with a GWS team fluffing about and it would be no different if he came to us. That would probably be a similar scenario if we went for Ben Brown. 

And we're not getting Daniher nor should we want him. At the very least we need a dead-eye [censored]. Not someone who is going to exacerbate the issue of not capitalizing on multiple forward entries. 

The hope, for mine, is that Petty overcomes OP (?) as he gets to contests and brings the ball to ground. If not, Dazzle mentioned Fogarty and I think he'd be a player to compliment Weid as the leading forward.

Now, as much as I hate Hawthorn, whenever I think of an effective forward structure, I still think about their Premiership teams where great midfield ball users and a strong system enabled their forward to open up space. All of a sudden, mediocre forwards become very good forwards as they know what to expect.

Still, if we are going to have a red hot go, I'd still prefer chucking money at a Josh Kelly type. Harder said than done but that's when I think we'd see a difference going forward (pardon the [censored] pun).

The club has been patient with Weeds development but he has now plateaued. Wasn't good enough to get beyond the scratch matches for the first half of the season ,Brings the ball to ground because he drops marks .Doesnt seem to play with any zip as compared to someone as ordinary as Brown. .I would keep him because every now and then he does something that only a good player can do .But ever since Jesse departed the whole forward line dynamic has changed and I agree a key forward is our number 1 need .

Weid is a good young player.. but he was never the answer to be entrusted as the main man. And thats what he has been ever since he came into the side.  He is getting the best defender.. asked to be a goal square player when he should be a traditional CHF. Need s mate.. need s stay at home FF. Where we get that from.. i dont know.. but Weid will be better as the sidekick.

For some reason (style over substance) I substituted 'good' with mediocre. I regret that! You're right but I still don't doubt that our current group, with better delivery, would look significantly better than they currently do.

Our forward line and mid to forward connection is a huge problem.  Our whole gameplan is based upon getting the ball into our forward half and controlling it there until we score, and not letting it out easily to stop the opposition scoring.

Weid is important to this, and has certainly played well without scoring goals.  He needs decent support.  I think we need:

An additional small lock in forward who has speed and goal hunger to pair with Kozzie.

A big lump of a target that can pair with Weids that will scare the pants off defenders - clunks marks, smashes packs.  (Not sure there are any of these about).  

Half forwards with brilliant pressure and laser like delivery. (Bennell, spargo and Fritsch)

Midfielders that can think about what they are doing (Trac, Oliver, maybe Rivers or Jordan)

So for mine, a small lock in forward and a marking beast are missing.  Can T-Mac make it back??? I hope so, but as we dont know what is wrong, it is difficult to make this assessment from outside).

Yes, absolutely gun midfields help forward platers out.

Yet gun forwards become top guns in the same scenario.

I think about the tigers with2 stars in Lynch and riewoldt.

Id be happy with one of those blokes.

Weid and Jackson are not the same. They may be one day but its still a gamble.

Rather someone who has already kicked 40 plus.

I think the plan with Fritsch is for him to build his endurance base and become more of a wing/high half forward, and it allows some space for Gunston to improve the side in the now, and allow Jackson to develop into his role a bit more.

Well, I'd very much back this plan then. It would also hopefully have a flow on effect to ensuring he brings physicality at ground level.

If Fritsch had the tank to play wing, he'd be perfect. Particularly, if we think Baker can also play there, and perhaps the two can rotate between half forward and wing. Obviously, Langdon is a lock on the other wing.

He’s definitely somewhere between a KPF and a flanker, just happens to have a big body to go with his incredible tank.

If Fritsch could kick he’d be a 40+ and he’s not even close to a KPF, so goals don’t necessarily dictate position

Jesse is very capable of holding his own in a contested aerial situation without jumping on someone's head. He's a mobile CHF as the best CHFs are. I'd have him in my side before Brown and I think we could actually play Jackson, Hogan and Weideman in the same team.

Weid kicked multiple goals in all but one game and averaged 4 marks a game for 9 rounds between round 6 and 14. His 18 goals in 9 goals was very strong.

Then came the short breaks and awful cairns conditions.

One more preseason of the right physical improvements and he'll get there.

Jackson is a stud. 

Harry Petty came in to a disaster of a side in 2019 and was clunking marks and hitting the scoreboard.

We'll be fine with what we have. We have to allocate resources in other positions - namely guys who can run, pressure and kick. We do that and our forwards will look a whole lot better.
