Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He's had some good games AF no doubting that and what he does offer is kicking on either side inside 50 which makes him a bit slippery if he gets the ball outside 50.  The problem is getting it for Melk, most of the time, means being given it on a platter.  This is fine when eveything's going down hill.  He looks the goods courtesy of other's hard work around him.  It's when the wick's turned up either during a match when the opp get their act together, or, we are playing a damn good team, that he just doesn't get near it aside from the odd loose mark inside 50 and goal.

I think this is a feature of the modern game though. Very few forwards can impact the game unless it's kicked to them 'on a platter'. Some are better at pressuring the ground ball and making defenders panic if they don't mark it (Petracca has become increasingly good at this), but most of the time, defences are set up this way and the game style is about creating beautiful goals through hard running.

For a player with his experience he goes missing for far too long, both during games (per above) or sometimes and sometimes for matches on end.  He isn't alone here.  Look at Weid the last four weeks.  One of the worst blocks of games you could ever wish to see from a supposed KF, barring a few odd decent cameo presentations on the lead or out the back.

Completely agree with all of this.

AF if we are ever to bridge the gap with the likes of the Tigers or say the top 4,, part of what we are going to have to bring is some high level pressure inside 50 at ground level.  As you say there's a little from the likes of Tracc, some from Kozzy in spurts.  But it almost ends there for us.  Funnily enough i think Brown and Hunt bring more of this to the team than a number of the usual culprits like Melk, Fritta and Spargo.  Hannan probably the only other that brings this when he's on and who knows when he's going to be on.  So many Dr Jekylls up forward

But wait, isn't Goodwin responsible for developing Weideman by keeping him out of the side for 6 weeks?

Jokes aside, Weideman is the least of our issues. He didn't exactly drop any sitters that I saw. He still flies for his marks. He already has made it as an afl player but he'll only be a 3rd tall.

Listening to Goodwin presser sums up our club

Does it?Is there anything Goodwin could say at the presser that would satisfy u?

it was a TERRIFIC interview .He mentioned undoubted strengths in the backs. Mentioned that we are still young up forward and need more - was entitled to mention that we’d jumped firm 17 to 9. Steely reserve to go ok v WC , if we get there which is hardly surprising as we’ve beaten them twice in our last 4 encounters. Talked glowingly about Tracc while mentioning the players around him.

by comparison with a Malthouse, Clarkson  or Longmire thiswas excellent  stuff

He said he was pleased how we played... really we continued to have fade outs... saying they have given it their best shot to make finals really??? We lost to bottom sides vs the others in the 8  are winning to consolidate. The same issues continue lack of maintaining intensity eg 2017... they blew their chances once again

Ha ha saw a discussion on The Graham Norton Show with comedian Michael McIntyre discussing words that naturally go together, with other guests Chris Martin and Rosamund Pike. Pike mentioned you can have underwhelmed and over whelmed, but you are never whelmed. Chris Martin agreed and suggested you can call someone ruthless, but you can never say, gee, he has a lot of ruth in him. ?

I’ve just started watching “All or nothing” on Amazon Prime. It’s a fly on the wall doco following Tottenham Hotspur EPL club last season. Mourinho is hired as a new manager, and within 2 days concludes the team are a bunch of nice guys. He tells them this, and that for 90 minutes a week they Can’t be nice guys and need to be a pack of c***s, Effing Intelligent c***s, not stupid c***s, bastar*s in the sense that for 90 minutes you are there to win matches.

That’s ruthless. I hope Goody has an Amazon prime subscription, our guys could learn this lesson.

Bloody hell goody is easily pleased.

The supporters I was near today sure weren’t pleased with the way we were playing.

Given our best shot, that’s laughable.

Maybe the above gives us a good idea why Milkshake has played every game this season despite his putrid form.

My band was playing this afternoon (I’m the vocalist) and so I had my phone on my music stand with Foxtel Go... I don’t think there’s been a time in the past where I’ve got the lyrics wrong in so many songs.

You are obviously not living in Melbourne. Can't wait to see live music again.

Sydney... it’s limited re audience size (max 25 in today’s venue), and people must remain in their seats, but it is great to be able to perform, yes. When the shutdown happened in March, we lost a lot of work.

It was good to secure the win but I’m disappointed in Goodwin’s direction after half time. We played safe football and took no risks which was the opposite of what we did in the second qtr. We did this against Carlton in round 2 and again we almost coughed it up with this style of play. I can’t see why a simple direction of “just keep on doing what you’re doing”’ can’t be applied in these situations instead of going into this highly possessive defensive game style that doesn’t suit us.

Yeah little perplexing that one. Heard Teague' s one as well and he was saying he was happy and they've improved but they simply have to get better.

Would have liked to hear something a bit more like that because if this season is our best shot then we really havent followed the progression plan too well and I guess we had better be happy being a perfectly 9th placed team.

Wasn't that Ruth is Stranger than Richard? Well at least we are not Rock Bottom.

The Cairns fiasco frustrating although it was, is on reflection not all down to Goodwin et al. The response in the last two games has been gratifying. Rather than go out meekly, the guys have re-established their playing credo and come out on top. Against two credible opponents. Its not perfect or always consistent but its heading in the right direction, up the ladder.

Agree with the agricultural gent who posted earlier, 'Farmer'. Simon Goodwin spoke well at what may be the last post-match media conference for this season. Plenty of confidence and forthright introspection there. Remember 9thmond? regular bridesmaids coach, players and club under a great deal scrutiny until a critical mass was achieved ...

ps. we are also warming to SOS, given his disappointments last season definitely Body and Soul.

Convincingly beat Joe Daniher one on one in a key contest.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
