Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I've taken some interest in them because of their "death-riding" our pick this year.  They've ended up with the two 1st rounders they hoped for but they haven't got them the way they thought they would.

Their list is in a world of hurt over the next period.

They've got a strong 29+ group and a promising under 23 group but they've got a hole in the middle the size of the Grand Canyon.

I make that they only have 5 AFL standard players in the 23-28yo age group: Anderson, Polec, Dumont, Ben Brown and McDonald.  They are trying to trade 2 of them.  That's the group that's going to take them forward for the next 5 years.  There's going to be a lot of pain over that period.

They do have a good chance to come out of it strongly with the drafting opportunities they will have added to their decent under 23s.

But then in the big picture you've got to ask whether a minnow club can survive 5 ugly years in these desperate times.

Mason Wood maybe worth a look.  Could be a player in a new environment.  Has the skills. Good size.

Care to name the 11?? I reckon they would be similar to mine!

Not a chance.  Doesn't strike me as a bloke who wants it enough and would fit in at our club.

I wouldn't touch any of those 11 listed.  We should be targeting blokes who are going to help us now by being part of our best 25-27 players.  None of those above would really fit that criteria.

Good on them for going hard with the clean out, but as @Pollyanna said, they are in for a world of hurt in the coming years.

I thought this was about Norf?

That's one hell of a clearout. I guess with lists apparently shrinking they've got in early.

Is Daw worth considering if he's in the right space for a restart?

Pittard is better defensive depth than Joel Smith and the Wagners etc.

Williams would also bolster our small defender stocks, which are quite limited.

We need tall forward depth full stop, so Wood on zero coin adds to depth with Mitch Brown and possibly TMac probably gone end of year.

Ahern was a top ten draft pick for the Giants, then came back to VIC. He struggled to get his body right, but has talent and was a goal kicking midfielder at underage level. He also had a 37 disposal, 12 clearance game against Premiers West Coast in 2018, so capable when fit. We could do worse for midfield depth.

Jacobs was a good player before injury in 2018. Haven't seen him since and is probably cooked. Wouldn't bother with any of the others.

Marley Williams. There must be some issue. He looks okay and fits one of our needs.  Small defender.  Tough player. Good pace and long left foot kick.

He was very good at the Pies and shifted to North. He was supposedly in a good space with Rhys Shaw as coach as he had a good bond from the Filthy pies connection.

The closest I got to being interested in them was 'hmmm, ah, hmmm, nah, nope'.

Couple might be of interest when freed of injury curses but even then they don't look like hiddens gems so much as unearthed bronze. There's no readings on the Bennell-o-metre, so to speak.

On the bright side for Norf, those delistings aren't going to be ripping the heart out of their 22 or anything. They do certainly have a challenge to manage some kind of competitive level as their current young players and the wave of incoming kids develop.

I wonder if they'll continue to throw fat contracts at mid-level players to try to top up in the meantime? It could affect a few of our own list decisions if we can respectfully move on a few of our 'adequate but unreliable' players currently in the bottom third of our best 22.

If he did all these things well, then he wouldn't be in and out of a side that's won just three games this year.

To me, he really isn't a whole lot of an upgrade on someone like Josh Wagner.  He isn't worth a second glance.

Don't ever recall such a clean-out on day one of post-season. Add in any retirements and wantaways (even more likely now) and trades and with reduced lists it could be a more than 50% list turnover in one year. That's insane.

Where are they going to find enough replacements? It's not like they're an attractive destination (and even moreso now) and it could be a limited draft still. Seriously? What's the strategy? They have two first rounders and a second rounder (25).

That's three potentially decent future players. Maybe downgrade 2 or package 2 & 10 for another first-round pick. Add a top speculative pick in the rookie draft (or pull a Carlton). They don't have any father-sons or academy's that I can recall.

Five or six youngsters. Trade out Polec and Brown for a couple more second-rounders? Their remaining picks are junk. One evident free-agency player coming in. And then what? Fill the list with low-level castaways from other clubs?

Build a war-chest to go for for top-level talent in the future lol. North's mid-term future looks bleaker than ours ever did even in the darkest hours. They are well and truly bottoming out and at a bad time and I can only see AFL intervention ahead.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
