Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Weideman article says he is 25. He is 24. Not only that, 4 weeks ago he was 23.

I'm all up for Bolton but he's going to cost an early first rounder. And Harry Mckay could cost 3 first rounders. He's the coleman medal leader and is super young. Quite possibly the highest value player in the afl.  There's no way he gets prized out of Carlton without paying an arm and 2 legs.

His manager may have something to do with his contract demands.

Fair call though.

Potentially yeah, and certainly not blaming him, he's exploded as a player and deserves a serious pay packed. it's always hard to know what the offer from the current team is, players do sometimes get miffed if it's a lot lower than what the other team offers

Agree. JT definitely had him as an option in the 2019 draft. Good pace and skilled. Suns has plenty of good youngsters.

Has good endurance and pace, but reason he slid out of the first round was poor skills. We were interested but obviously went for others and looks like we made the right call.

We had LJ and kozzzy.  Then I reckon it was Deven Robertson, Trent Rivers and Jeremy Sharp.  Happy with the Riv.

Fiorini again looking very good today. Good skills. Inside and outside wingman. At the moment, he’d probably been an upgrade on Brayshaw.

Just what we don't need. Poor skills and poor decisions. Sharp on the other hand....

The Tiger's dynasty is over anyone on that list wanting to chace more premierships should be on our target list. Bolton, Baker, Sydney Stack (questionalbe) are the three i think are young and hungry enough.

There is also the Suns, which i'd expect to trade in some draft picks for experienced players. We should look at offering up a mature bodied player that would compliment their gaps, which is leadership and contested footy to help their outside players - Viney, Harmes, Gus would be the first few i'd look to put up. If they were interested in Weid, id look at that quite favourably.

We have to be super aggressive this year and relentless if we are going to be a serious threat in the next few years. You just have to look at the Doggies list to see what we have to compete with, because they will not be wasting anytime trying to target backmen to complete their masterpiece.

If I was the list boss I’d be looking to trade in 2 things…

Outside skilled midfielder to play the wing. Someone ready to step in. Prefer under 25 but as long as we get 3 seasons then I’d be happy.

Half forward flanker with elite foot skills to deliver the ball into the 50.

To get those 2 things I say we give up an inside mid and Weed.

Then draft for the best available.

Would want a half forward flanker who has played that position at a high level too, not another mid that we try and rebrand.

Elite finishing skills are a must and we still lack a couple between the centre square and our goalsquare.

Agree. Sadly I have no idea who these players are, but that’s my laundry list.

It’s a very hard position to play and an even smaller chance of prying the few good ones out of their current setups

Daniels from GWS, Rozee at Power, Sexton from Suns, Cripps from West Coast and obviously Papley and Heeney at the Swans are all high quality Half Forwards, but none of that lot are easy to get hold of.

Gut feel is Bolten will go to whoever offers him the most money. which probably rules us out right away. i'd imagine a team like Freo might offer good $$$ and a swaip might occur including Cerra back to the Tigers.

that actually makes sense... with bolton having tasted success, he is probably now keen to get the $$$

So sigh Shai Bolton instead of Weideman?

Where do we fit his extra $400k in the cap?

We have our stars - and 3 of them are in the midfield with Langdon as much of a star that a wing can be.

Without knowing our cap position directly - one cannot assume we have much wriggle room for players like Bolton.

To paraphrase Don Rumsfeld; unless we trade a star, we are going to war with the midfield we have.

agree its a long shot. however no player would want to leave a team that is building ... our only hope comes from teams that will be on the down or are have precarious situation.

1. Richmond. The dynasty is over. They will be a long way away from a tilt at the flag. Expect them to be competitiv for the next 2-3 years before putting up he white flag for a rebuild.
2. Collingwood. Rebuild mode - plumb for the picking.
3. Geelong - maybe they have one more year after this year, but its an aging list so we may be able to target the youth that are not getting a game.
4. GWS. Looks like since the 2019 GF, they are neither here or there. Their core is starting to age and they have a few that will come of contract and ask for too much given the coin that Coniglio, Kelly and others are demanding.
5. Carlton / Suns / Freo. Probably have 1 more year up their sleeves before players want to chase success.
6. WB: They have huge talent on their list that are not getting game time. We maybe able to pluck a player here, but not many would want to leave given their potential to win a few flags.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
