Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Seems keen to stay.

Interesting, I interpret it completely differently.

’It’ll be interesting’ - adds uncertainty

I’d love to stay - is also  adding uncertainty

Collingwood will probably need to go into a rebuild under the new coach.  It would be time to shed a few names and bank a few picks, looking 3 years down the pipe.  This squad isnt going to get near a flag, so turning over some names will be inevitable.  Maynard might be spilled in such a situation

maynard is a ripper and is entering his peak years as a footballer

filth needs 'points' to get daicos

our first two picks in 2021 draft - likely to in that 33-45 bracket (brisbane's second rounder, hawthorn's third rounder) - would give them another 1000 points to bundle with their own scant selections, which are likely to be in that 40-50 bracket (footscray's second rounder, their own third rounder, and adelaide and freo's third rounder)

i'd happily pony up a late second round pick / high third round pick in order to get maynard at the dees in 2022

Players regularly say they want to stay and then leave, i'm certaintly not ruling it out as a possibilty, i've just not heard anything personally about Maynard leaving, not sure if the regular high rep Demonlanders have heard anything?

Hawks game wouldn't have helped Hibberd, he was terrible. He has played well in other games though. Pretty sure he will get another year. Hore plays a bit taller and Lockhart is a little more versatile, but obviously can't crack the team atm. A few will go no doubt.

I can see Bowey as our Caleb Daniel and I am keen on Deakyn Smith, who is more like Salem, but with extra aggression.

Don't know about Declase and Turner looks more a key back.

Petty doing ok and Tomlinson to return, so a good hbf could be looked at but we do have options.

Hore was a turnover merchant IMV. A good interceptor, who would then hand the ball straight back to the opposition by foot. Very Tom McDonald when he was a key back.

I reckon if Turner comes along a bit in the remaining few weeks of the year, that could spell trouble for Hore. But maybe Marty is an ideal player for the rookie list given his injury history.

For the way we play the game, we need a lot of key back depth in case of injuries.

Look at all the players who have gone to Hawthorn over the past 5 years..... Takes time to sink in that it's over.

You definitely get the sense that the AFL world is a bubble, so it makes sense that some can see the forest through the trees.

Players are also often looking for short term success (ie within their playing careers), so naturally go for those who are up right at this moment and appear to give little thought to what that club might look like in 2-3 years.

That said, our list has been rated within the footballing community for a while, despite not getting it to click consistently, which is why we've been able to attract the likes of Lever, May, Langdon and to a lesser extent Brown.

Makes me think we have to recruit very carefully from now on so we can sustain the potential. We seem to have all the pieces in place for now...

weed likely to stay at the mfc according to the little paper

DEMONS AIM TO KEEP THEIR HOOKS IN WEIDEMAN

Melbourne remains confident key forward Sam Weideman wants to stay at the club for the long-term despite being pushed out of the senior side.

The agile goal kicker is out of contract at season’s end but has not yet flagged any plans to explore a move to a rival club at the end of the year.

The Demons have strong belief Weideman has a bright future at the club even though he has been leapfrogged by new recruit Ben Brown and remains behind Tom McDonald and Luke Jackson in the forward line pecking order.

He has been out of the team since the Round 13 loss to Collingwood but the Dees are content the contract discussions will lead to his signature even if he is yet to put pen to paper.

Collingwood would be a natural fit but does not have the salary cap room to accommodate Weideman, while Gold Coast is hunting another key forward and has put its first draft pick on the table to help secure a quality marking target.

Weideman, 25, has booted only three goals from five games this season and averaged eight disposals a match, having failed to grab his chance when he was in the senior side.

The average form means even if he did demand a release he would not command a considerable bounty in return at the trade table.

The Demons brought in Brown from North Melbourne and have been thrilled with McDonald’s output this year after failing to trade him last year.

The Demons have done an outstanding job tying up their priority targets this year re-signing stars Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca, Max Gawn and Christian Salem.

Seriously why are we persisting with this guy. He has shown nothing in his time at the club bar the 1 game in 2018. If we are controlling the narrative we should do everything to ‘keep him with the club’ but find a suitor to try and snap a 2nd rounder and exchange that for Maynard or Cerra. Kelly will milk every penny at GWS unless they have a Treloar list management probl and look to offload 6-700K off their books.

Is there anybody else ? Do we make a play for Shan Bolton? He is exactly what we need speed and skill.

Pipedream, but yes, he is one of the most exciting players in the comp.

What is it about the indigenous community that they can produce such a high percentage of amazing players?

Bolton and a mature Pickett in our forward 50. Bloody hell.......

Gut feel is Bolten will go to whoever offers him the most money. which probably rules us out right away. i'd imagine a team like Freo might offer good $$$ and a swap might occur including Cerra back to the Tigers.

Would love to know what your gut feel is based on. Bolton sure does appear to love his Tigers teammates.

Based on the fact he's not committed to staying, all his reported contract demands are top end salary wise, and he's a W.A boy, he may like his teammates, but it's obvious he's about maximising his value, and teams will make big offers.

His manager may have something to do with his contract demands.

Fair call though.

So sigh Shai Bolton instead of Weideman?

Where do we fit his extra $400k in the cap?

We have our stars - and 3 of them are in the midfield with Langdon as much of a star that a wing can be.

Without knowing our cap position directly - one cannot assume we have much wriggle room for players like Bolton.

To paraphrase Don Rumsfeld; unless we trade a star, we are going to war with the midfield we have.

We're at that horrible stage in list development where the players need to choose between team success and personal fortune.

It appears that Ned Guy allowed a personal element to affect Colonwoods nett player payments. I hope that our list is close enough that they understand how much their personal demands can affect the teams chances of giving the members what they all hope for.

What about Dawson from the Swans out of contract and it doesn't seem close to a new contract ATM.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
