Tommy as a FB is a fairly unknown quantity right now, he hasn't played there properly in years. Would be interesting to see how he'd go there, I'm wary of dealing with the Pies as I can't think of one single trade we've done with them where we have actually come out winning. They always seem to give us their spuds while making gems from ours.

Well Dogs do want a key forward and a key back and also have expressed interest in Hannan, so that could be a possible fit.

This years trade period really is shaping up as an interesting one. We traded out of the first round citing the numerous players spoken for via f/s and NGA, consensus here is that was a wise move. Now with COVID wiping out the Victorian U/18s year and limiting the exposure of a large portion of the draft pool, that also brings further questions about how to research and project players into the draft.

Now it appears we have focused our trade targets to Brown and Smith, while something else may yet come out of the woodwork as well.  Smith is an Unrestricted free agent and won't cost any picks, however there is still some conjecture about the worth of Brown considering his interrupted year as well as being pushed out the door by North. Some suggestions include late first rounders through to something in late 2nd round. Regardless, we would appear to have the tools to facilitate a trade with the selections we have in either this years and next years draft or a combination there of. Salary cap space is the major impediment to any trade for Brown it would seem.

So after actively trading out of the early part of this years draft, limiting our involvement if you will, we are also willingly shopping around multiple players, some contracted some not. ANB, T-Mac, O-mac, Preuss, Hannan and if some posters are to be believed, Brayshaw has been put on the table. Speculation around Oliver continues, however if there is any truth to the rumours I would fully expect the club to hold him to his contract, additionally I can't see anyway the Blues could entice us. In the hypothetical event he does request a trade next year, I would be expecting Judd like compensation.

So what is our aim in facilitating so many player trades?

Is it largely for salary cap relief?

Are we targeting more players we're yet to hear about?

Have we now identified someone in the draft and aiming to make our way up the draft board?

Will we invest in next years draft and request future selections?

I suspect the answer may be a combination of some of the above, but it's interesting nonetheless. Complicating things further is there still seems to be no confirmed details about list sizes and Salary cap space.

Thoughts on Josh Thomas from the Pies? i feel like he'd be an improvement on Hannan/Melksham and co in that forward position, can put on pressure and find the goals

definitely wouldn't be first choice on the small forwards list, barely kicks a goal was probably lucky to hold his spot all year i guess with their injuries but if u watch enough pies games you'll see he's a pretty nothing/absent player and would be found out more in a worse side, + hes in his like 12th season you'd want someone younger for the same contract and ability

i think we must be overpaying these middling types and giving them too much too soon, geelongs list is loaded with talent meanwhile we're apparently chock full. also i believe we are probably looking for 3rd/4th rounders for most of our outs or potential swap deals using 3 ways deals or regular deals where we bring in players (polec/phillips?) however it would be silly to target either of these boys and smith because its impossible to play them both + langdon. i can see us shifting a large number of picks to the dogs or cats (who potentially will look to shift one of their 3 first rounders to next years draft). note this is a really strong tall draft so it'd be nice to grab a forward and more importantly a defender to develop for 2/3 years. 

we also have to shift these fringe players who aren't developing because otherwise the younger fellas will be 3 years on the list without any games and any idea if theyre actually gonna cut it and then we're behind the 8 ball developmentally to all the other sides that are blooding and giving experiences to their kids. sparrow, jordon, spargo should be looking to solidify there spots in the 22 or at least break through for chunks and nietschke, bedford and chandler should they make the cut will be make or break for them

If there is any truth to that then Bartlett, Goody and the whole bloody board / FD should walk ....now.

Never has a club needed a genuine KF more than the MFC right now.

It should be our No.1 priority and Cameron front & centre.  We should have been in to this bloke from early this season or late last.

Now all the info here could  of course, be complete bunkum and i'll be happy to eat humble pie if we land Cameron.

However, on past form and if i'm a betting man, i would say the MFC is about to completely miss the boat for the umpteenth time during its 50 odd years and growing of on field failure.

And going after Smith hard instead?  The last person we need.

Preuss likely to GWS was known by the club a month ago.

Goodwin, Mahoney and Gawn have had a meeting with Brown just recently. That doesn't mean we're chasing him hard of course, but that would say we're at least seriously considering forward moves.

Yeh look, I'd hardly term Richmond 'ordinary' when comparing to dominant teams of the past. You're on your own there.

Obviously equalisation measures have impacted the competition, but that hasn't made it easier for us any way whatsoever. It's most clearly made it harder.

Yeh we've got a core with a lot of potential, but the last two years is proof of how many ingredients need to be there to have any sort of sustainable success. You make it sound as if it's bound to happen.

I'm glad you're shattered, hopefully it's a bit of a reality check.

It would be absolutely bizarre if the club didnt either land or chase a key froward extremely hard particularly after Goodwin stated that we needed another big forward.

I have a lot of issues with this post but perhaps the biggest one is the notion, and you're not the only one to do this, that if a certain player doesn't end up at Melbourne then the club has failed to do its job.

As if there's some sort of magic formula whereby all we have to do is be interested in a player to guarantee that player signs with us.
