Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just listening to Edmund and Dwayne Russell on SEN.

They both reckon he’s got a few years left in the tank at 32. Hope they’re right.

He came to the game late, so I see where they are coming from.

If we can get him on a good deal, then I think he will help to make us a better side in the short term while we develop others like Baker to potentially take his role in a few years time.

Finally landed our big fish!

We don't need a 'big fish'.  Leave that to teams like Norf and Carlton who want to throw buckets of money at anyone with two legs.

We just need players who fit our gamestyle and complement what we have.  Isaac Smith is one such player who can slot in on the other wing.  He is smart, a good user of the footy and knows how to kick goals.  For the right price, he would be a handy pick up for us.

100% hope we get him.

I don't care about 'this player won't be in our next premiership team' comments.

Who says our next premiership isn't next year?

If we can improve our side next year then do it. sick of waiting for players to develop in the hope we win a flag.

I thought young Baker showed some promise on the opposite wing so im not sure where he fits in all of a sudden.

Simon knows he has to correct our deficiencies in 2021 and makes finals or its definitely curtains.

Without a doubt Lewis would be trickling in his ear about coming on board.

Clarksons treatment against other greats at Hawthorn might work in our favour here, just hope its a reasonable offer nothing over the top.

Baker would be a year or two off his peak, so having Smith there to learn from during that time and take the pressure off could be really beneficial for him IMO.

Remember that time when Mahoney expressed how happy he was in an interview after bringing in 'the specialist wingman', Adam Tomlinson?

And then he was dropped after round four?

And now he plays CHB?

I remember.

The club is broken.

The way we've handled our cap. The types of players we've brought in years too late. The faith that Goodwin and co have had in some of the same plodders year after year. It's a genuine embarrassment.

The only way we're going to make a genuine stride forward next year is by making some big changes to this list like the Saints did last year.

Tomlinson was a mistake many of us saw coming.

The Saints bought in 4 nice additions. 3 of which they paid a pretty hefty price for and a bargain in Butler. Plus 32 year old Ryder who’s a nice short term sugar hit.

We added Langdon and 3 nice draft picks. Apart from the Tomlinson mishap we’ve done well adding guys who will improve the list for a long time.

Isaac Smith could be our version of a Ryder. If we find just a couple of capable role players whilst maintaining draft picks the list we’ll be in decent shape.

For all the people bagging Tomlinson on a wing....we may have recruited him for that role but he is clearly better in our backline.  He has barely missed a beat all year.  For you baggers you would prefer Omac?  I don't get the angst about him one bit.  He is automatic best 22 and he rarely stands out doing silly things during the course of a game.  Worth the $$$ we spent on him.

That might be true - but at the same time it's an area that is a glaring weakness.  We've got a very talented list that is probably 4 players away from a premiership threat (winger, key forward, fast / skillful outside mid, small forward).  Smith fills one of these rolls.  Potentially by filling the wing position an outside mid is not needed... but would still love to get one is there is one on offer.

Still a lot to playout - but a good chance that Tmac, Pruess, ANB and one of Brayshaw / Harmes will not be at the club next year - so a good chance of trading in a player or two that gets us pretty close.

Yeah well the club seems incapable of making the so called "Ruthless" decisions it claims! I would advocate a Norf style cleanout. I could name about 10 who just should not be on the list next year!

But what would you replace  all 10 with?   Trading out some of our good players to get extra draft picks  doesn't sound like a good way to fill a list.

If he came cheap then fair enough, I'm not totally convinced he can be the guy some people here are suggesting but out of the older heads it wouldn't be the worst get. I also wouldn't be targeting Smith if it was purely for experience, surely that role can be covered by hanging onto Jones, yeah ok totally different player and elite runner but not totally sold yet.

@DeeSpencer Would you call Tomlinson an update on Frost/OMac at least?

Oscar yes, Frost no. The contract we gave Tomlinson was worthy of a best 22 player who impacts games. Tall bloke who paddles around the backline and can’t defend or intercept isn’t that. A summer training with the defenders might help, he can run and he’s not the worst kick but he wouldn’t get a game in any of the finals sides.

You aren’t watching close enough. He does 5 silly things defensively. Can’t mark, can’t spoil, can’t catch anyone at ground level, gets caught boundary side.

Result/Performances aside he's played in a Grand Final, the furthest any of our crop have gone! He didn't really impact games at GWS, just plays his part. We're shambolic in a shambolic year, i'll hold all my judgment off until 2021 is completed.

Other than Buddy those that have left have gone to 'lowly' clubs to help their players develop.  So its a bit hard for them to play in premiership sides.

It seems to me they go to get a few more $ which they sacrificed at Hawks and to keep playing a game they enjoy.

Having said that hope if we get Smith hope he can help us get into contention while with us.

I honestly think Lewis came to MFC with the intention to add to his set of flags.  Yes there was a long contract but that was a part of it and would IMO be the attraction for Smith.

Interestingly, when Tomlinson was playing as a key defender this year we were 5 wins and 2 losses. With Oscar 3W / 4L. With Joel Smith alone (or just May and Lever),  1W / 2L.

So he clearly fits the defensive system pretty well and a mobile big body who can keep opponents on the ground in marking contests.

Matt Suckling would have with the Bulldogs had he not injured his achilles int he semi-final.

And let's see what happens with Grant Birchall ....

You've got no idea how we've handled our cap. You've got speculation and that's it.

I'm happy to say that Mahoney's internal review from 2019 was not good enough, but as for list management, it's mere speculation on your part.

Well, you can't really win then can you. I think this is a good move and yeah, what's wrong with ensuring we play finals next year? Our core is good enough.

Tomlinson is a handy player. No star, but does his job at CHB, can go into the ruck if we need him, can go onto a wing if we need him and can even play as a half forward flanker. I think he's a handy acquisition. And a vast upgrade on Frost and Oscar McDonald.

Completely disagree. I'll never understand people's obsession with Frost. More often than not he'd sprint out of defence with no idea what was going on and couldn't hold team defensive structure.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
