Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

His role is less ‘physical’ than what it was in 2017. Back then it was the bash and crash attack no matter who you were. I’m seeing less full blown defensive efforts where he puts his body on the line but more of the run, speed, link up and overlap play we know he’s built for,

And as far as the experts online goes, we all have an opinion and sometimes it doesn’t turn out right.

I still think he is best suited where he can get the ball and run, like wing and hbf. He has adapted as a forward because that is where he is being played. He is an accurate and long kick, can take a mark and has pace, but to me he is not a natural forward, like say a Breust or a Papley. I think his best footy is straight line running and line breaking,  like he did earlier in his career.
The forward line can be a graveyard, where possessions are few and limited opportunities  have to be taken to be effective there.
I think he has been unfairly marked by many on here, as a result of being played out of his best position .

Love hunty but he really needs to learn to stick a tackle. Every time he attempts one he gets shrugged off

Melksham and several other Demons say hello.
Out tackling has been poor the last 2 years, since late 2018 when it was ferocious.
IMO we should get a rugby guy in who can teach them to take the body down and not be shrugged off, or simply avoided.

Nah, This is Cale Morton's best highlight reel and most fitting.

Hunt has some attributes to be good player, but as others have mentioned, lacks the natural footy nous to be a great player. Needs a role, whether it be us or another club and he can be of value IMO. I'd like to think he could become a bit of a Tom Lynch from Adelaide type? He is good overhead and has good pace, just needs to learn running patterns on where to get to to and a tank and he could be very valuable? He probably lacks that nous to be as effective as Lynch when he was at his best, but he could still be an important contributor.

Another example of our lack of Developing  a player.

Hunt Fritta Kossie ANB Weid All have ability but need more education and development in forward Craft.

Yes some forward play is instinctive and this is where natural players such as Trac and Fritta at times Make it look so easy!

who is our Forward  coach ??? Isnt it Chaplain  a defender Need a Roughead type.

Snd goalkicking coach Stafford a ruckman!!!

Redleg I normally agree with your posts

But...

If a bloke kicks 4 goals from 6 possessions it's a bit rough to say he's not a natural forward.

Players can kick goals and might not be natural forwards. Lockhart kicked goals but everyone says he is a defender. I actually believe he is a better forward. Hooker and Tom Mac played most of their footy in defence, but kicked goals when moved forward. Are they natural forwards or adaptable.
I think natural forwards are the guys like Breust, Papley, A.MacTipungwuti, Miers, Betts, De Goey, Gray, Ryan, Stephenson,  Walters and past players like Cyril, Flash and the Wiz etc, who can make goals out of nothing and take their opportunities.
Pickett will be our next one, once he starts converting his chances.
Anyway as others have said, opinions are just that.

Dare we say it with greater "connectivity" could be anything ... clearly benefited  by "narrowing the focus" and  playing his "role for the team." Swooper stood up and "controlled what he could control,”... Well, that is the "takeaway" from  last rounds "learnings". Everything else is just "fugazi".

Jeez looking at those highlights, 2016 in particular, makes you wonder how we haven’t been able to make a player out of him.

What was interesting looking at the 2016 highlights was that he sat on the outside a lot at times for others to extract the ball out and then when he received he would just take off.

I’m definitely keen to give him another year, and I think it’s as much on the coaching staff as it is for Hunt to make something of him.

Other than being played out of position for too long by Goodwin, and as a 'fill-gap' player at that with useless 'mates of Goodwin' occupying slots without meaningful returns for the regular selections, it is my firm belief that the alleged 'game plan - brand -  lessons learned - contested horse droppings' of the coach have worked badly to ruin his game, opportunities and match readiness, as well as those of so many of his teammates.

Goodwin's preference, longer-term, for Hunt has been to keep him at a distance from the team to act as 'available depth' . Hunt produces excellent space-oriented plays, runs like the wind, carries the ball very quickly and bounces without fault, kicks like Aaron Davey could over distance and in shorter passes, with tremendous accuracy across the averages. Can't get a game....

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried.

A Natural Forward with speed to burn,  can take a grab and a great leg to boot.

Hunt will never be more than a bit player

I think he is a natural forward kick 21 goals last year, has played his best games as a forward this year, with his pace he is good on the lead, and finds space because of his pace, could have kicked 5, if he did not pass off to Langdon just before 3 QTR time, 50 out straight in front, that's his sweet spot. Turns it over by foot too much, but he is a dead idick.

Hunt has not been the same since he badly knocked himself out running flat out into that Crows ruckman hip a few years back!

Still has speed to burn, can take a mark and can kick goals, just needs to have some impact on his quiet days!

That is the major challenge for Many small / mid forwards at the Demons, their good can be very good, but in the not so good games, they are not sighted. Hannan, ANB, Hunt, Spargo to name a few!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
