Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Time to have a talk about Jayden

Hunt that is...

A favoured player for many of us and a sponsored Demonland player as well.

Out of contract at the end of this year.

My guess is a low one year contract with match incentives but is he worth that and will he try the trade market.

Hard decision which will be influenced by who else we let go but interested to hear if others think there is merit in retaining him.

On a side note I see Melksham is contracted until end 2022 which is starting to look like one year too many perhaps.

He has been played out of position since 2018. He’s a dashing back player, period. Not a forward or midfielder. He has loads of natural talent but it’s been blunted by over coaching . He should just be told to get out there and play with that dare and dash, the attack on the ball, which was so exiting when he first broke in around 2016. If he is let go I for one would be very very disappointed.

Backline philosophy has change since then though, just ask Sam Frost. Right or wrong, Goodwin decided our backline needed to be more dependable and safe, which does not suit Hunt, and definitely does not suit being told to go out there and just play with dare.

IMO the options are either he accepts his place as a forward who might play half the games at most; or he moves on to another team willing to offer him more opportunity.

I hope he stays, seems an absolutely ripping fella, obviously has the pace we need more of too, but I would also understand if he moved on to get more of a go elsewhere.

i think you will find if he didnt have a bunch of poor games in the backline, he would have stayed there. His disposal in general play and field kicking is not AFL standard in my opinion. Handballing especially is very very poor if you take notice. He is however a decent kick for goal and has played some decent games up forward. He won't be much of a loss if we delist.

After Goodwins first year we changed the game plan to move the ball quicker by foot rather than with run. Seeing Jayden running with the ball went against the plan as much as we (the supporters) loved it. To make it worse he would often run himself into trouble or kick long with little accuracy.

He fell out of favour and has looked like half the player he was.

He could be delisted this year which is unbelievable considering how good he looked in 2017.

Yeah, I hope nobody who is distressed by our coughed-up turnover goals problem is also spruiking Hunt for the backline.

Unfortunately, and as others have already noted, his 'run 15 kick 40' option is too easily countered and he doesn't actually have great vision to pick out targets the way is necessary to penetrate the midfield and half-forward minefield with being blown up and sent directly back.

If he's going to make it in the present form of the game, it'll be somewhere forward of center.  He could be an Ed Langdon clone except he doesn't have the key Ed Langdon features of relentless gut running to smart places and the repeat efforts.  So it's a bit like saying Matthew Bate could be a Koutafides clone.

I'm on the fence as far as keeping him for next year, but can also see that another club may feel he offers something more suited to their mix.

Yes in early 2018 he lost a bit of form , but that can happen to anyone. He was dropped and things have gone awry since. Look he’s a natural line breaker, we’ve got no-one like that. Someone like Harmes or Hore are  maybe “safer” at half back in a sense but give no forward drive, momentum or penetration at all. A team is a team , made up of people with different attributes who together work as one. In my view Hunt at his best is a player who should be in our best 22. It would be pretty heartbreaking to see him do well at another club. I fear that’s what would happen if we let him go.

Jadyn hasn'tbeen the same player since a concussion in 2018. Glad to see him cop one running back on Saturday evening and bounce up shaken but only stirred.

He can't play defence.

When he was back there it was too much galloping and bombing with no plan.

He's not a great kick and not a great one-on-one defender.

He's got what it takes to be a decent small forward but he struggles to keep himself involved for four quarters. He's a good lead, a good mark, a good set shot, and last night showed a decent crumber. But he doesn't seem to be in the right spots enough and so goes missing for long periods.

The fact he's getting games right now when others aren't is a good sign for him, but I'm not confident of his long-term future with the club.

Hard to know about his spot on the list until we get clarity with list sizes and potential recruits. Who are we trading in or out?

In terms of best position:
There's so much less space up the corridor than even 3 years ago it's really hard to find room for those huge runs. Plus it might only end up outrunning the forward set up.

The thing I liked most about him as a defender was that he had versatility. He could take an intercept mark. He could spoil. He could tackle. It wasn't just the runs. But I think he started to lose some of that from his game.

I've wanted to see him play a bit more wing but without a great tank it's not easy to succeed there.

The forward line might be the best spot for him.

The other winger?

I'm with you JR. Get him to follow Langers around like a bad smell at training and learn his craft.

He is probably a better kick them Langdon too,  I can see him building into a wingman, it's worth a shot.

Unbelievable that he's lasted 3 years though, luckily signed on back then or he would've been gone last year

I noticed his general lack of enthusiasm post game too. So maybe he wants out anyway.

Reading this thread I see I’m in a minority in wanting to keep him. I hope you are all right. I fear you’re not but we’ll see.

Hunt’s an enigma. He seems to have attributes that could make him a valuable player but can’t seem to nail down a role.

We played him as a dashing HB flanker initially and it looked great but he began to run himself into trouble or kick long to nothing.

Tried him up front as a mid-sized pressure forward and he seemed to bob up for a few goals but then went missing from games to the point of being unsighted.

Tried him on the wing but he just didn’t seem to get to the right spots and get enough of the ball.

For me I think the position he could potentially add the most value as a forward as his hands are quite good and he seems to be a decent kick for goal. I’d be happy for us to give him one more year as our forward is such a mess right now it’s better to have options.

I felt really sorry for him, he looked sad all game, i genuinely hope he is ok. I think he has a go every time he plays, was one of our better players last year, 21 goals. I hope he gets another year, but i think he is gone. Although i could find 10 players i would rather delist before him.

If he's willing to remain a fringe 22 player, I'd keep him.

He's got some great attributes - he's quick, tough and can kick a goal.

His field kicking restricts him from being used anywhere else, but we need as many quick small forwards as we can get.

I understand people seeing him as a Langdon type on the wing but Langdon has a pretty good footy IQ and maintains a high disposal efficiency by taking the easy option and out running his opponents to get low pressure opportunities. I'm not sure Jayden is capable of this.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
