Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why would you drop Brown?

more than serviceable and solid defensively

Because the team looked significantly better with Weid and LJ in the forward line.
Someone has to go, Brown is the other tall, he's the one to go.

Agree. Brown did a very good job. At the ground you could see he was getting to contests and presenting. He’s not slow like Tmac. Jackson is not quite ready and 5 weeks away without match fitness wouldn’t help.  Brown would like to show the bombers that he is still AFL standard.

The team plays zone defence where they guard a patch of grass. Ridiculous!

That's quite funny.

Coq au vin was all the rage in 70s in the suburban Melbourne of my childhood. The ultimate in hawt cuisine.

Seems like that's where you might be stuck - 12 teams all in Vic, man on man, kick the bloody ball and the only zones the new fangled  travel cards used to to get the train and buses to far flung, exoctic places like Windy Hill, Waverly and Morrabin.

Maybe your next name change could be Three Cheese Fondue or Chicken Chow Mein

LJ hasn't played a game for 5 weeks

Hi risk strategy in my opinion. On exposed form you would keep Brown before any of the others including Wied who looks completely lost and unproductive.Cant mark Cant compete He looks lost and with zero confidence

I'd much rather LJ in over Brown, even after not playing for 5 weeks.
If Burgo says he's good to go and can play, then he's good to go and can play.

What about Brown and LJ. Is Weid offering more than Brown, or is it fair to say LJ probably a better bet than current-form-Weid?

Would much prefer Weid.

Brown is not the future and I would not want to waste anymore time on him to be honest.
Should never have been put on our list and the quicker he is off, the more we can focus on creating cohesion between players who are going to be there for 3 years+

Instead of picking him up, I would have much preferred to see J. Smith play as a third tall/back up tall this season in the forward line.

Hmm ok agree to disagree. LJ not ready Wied out of form T Mac COOKED

WE HAVE FEW OPTIONS

WITH BROWN YOU GET A COMPETITOR AND HOPEFULLY A COUPLE OF GOALS

This game is not about the future Ham  its about picking a team that will win and win big on Friday ie not the future

Depends on the fitness of Hibberd, if fit he comes in for Jetta.  Bennell for ANB but that won't happen more likely Sparrow for ANB or ANB will stay in.  Sparrow as it gives us a midfield option that isn't AVB or Melksham and Sparrow is OK as resting mid up forward.

Bennell doubt they would consider him

Interesting for the selectors.

Win by 50+ points and we would overtake a beaten St Kilda.

Go too attacking and we can become unstuck.

Go too conservative and potentially miss out on %

If Saints win, just need to get the points and pray for Freo.

In: Jackson, Harmes

Out: ANB, Tomlinson

Could not disagree anymore.

How is LJ not ready? Just because you don't play a game in 5 weeks, doesn't automatically equate to you not being ready. He has clearly proven he is more than up to AFL standard from a handful of games this year, if the club says he is ready, then bring him in. Otherwise leave Brown.

Weid competed well and he was involved in multiple score involvements. Just because you aren't hitting the scoreboard, doesn't mean you're out of form. He can get involved in other ways, which he did, we still found a way to kick a winning score? Imagine when he's firing as well (which he's proven he can... multiple times).

Every game you play is about cohesion, clearly this is the way the senior coach sees it as well, having mentioned it multiple times. You achieve cohesion by playing the main stay players when and how ever you can, not fringe players whose only purpose, is to fill a backup.

If the Dogs lose, we just need to win. Doesn't matter by how much. We're 3% ahead of Footscray.

I haven't gone through this whole thread, but there is a lot of hate for Melksham on here.  He has been playing a defensive midfield role the last 2 weeks and did a great job on Taranto last night who figured to be a key inside mid for the Giants with Coniglio out. Add to that he is just about our best kick in a team with poor foot skills, there is no way I can entertain dropping him. Stick him on Merrett next week, and we'll be good.

Don't mind this call. I've been a bit critical of him, mainly because of ill discipline but I think this is a great role for Melky and you're right, he is definitely one of the more skilled players in our side.

I'd be picking the team that can kick the biggest score

My gut feel is Dogs will win but Saints game is 50/50 and they've been shaky under pressure.

So it's all about our margin, but we'll know the result anyway so late changes a chance?

Must start well. Once Bombers give up they fold pretty quick.

Good summary.

Bottom line is we need to probably win by 6 goals unless the saints lose by heaps. Thus we need a team that can score quickly in short quarters and has good accuracy, not wasting chances . A narrow win serves no purpose.

The team needs the talent accordingly and that includes jackson if fit. And i would punt with Bennell also

But Dr Meaningless it is a double possibility and not so rare as you think.

You are willing us to Not make Finals so  YOU Can criticise the Club all summer.

Generally your posts  are Negative dismissive and not balanced. While there is a mathematical chance live the dream and rejoice if it happens IF NOT we have got what we deserve 9th or 10th.

Should a team that is simply not good enough to challenge the top teams in the comp be playing finals (any team, not just MFC (unless perhaps it is a young team on the rise))??? I am only saying it like it is. If time and time again a team isn't good enough and consistently inconsistent, supporters will be venting and yes it's likely to be negative. If you can take positives from stuffing up a pretty damn good run to the finals you are better than I am, the time for excuses has long past.  This team should be the most feared team in the comp, and they have the talented players to be exactly that, yet they are not...

You’ve been cooked in red wine foul chicken. LJ isn’t ready. Leave the team alone. They won last week. No need for changes unless there are injuries.

Hate? People expressing an opinion that he has underperformed badly this year? Not sure that’s hate. Most have given him plenty of time to shine and he’s less than delivered.
I’d rather see Harley back in the side this week, I don’t this Milky will win or lose is the game and HB will be interesting to see where he’s at.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
