Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

saad for hawks' 2nd rounder would be okay

saad for that and t mac is significant overs for mine

if they lose daniher they'll need a tall to come - hell, they need one now, with hooker and hurley both closer to retirement than their best - as they seem to be lacking big players

i still don't think saad is all that special

Tommy is nothing throw him away. 2nd rounder and Tommy should definitely get Saad over the line.

He’s worth about what we paid for Langdon. Certainly not a first round pick.

Agreed.  The Langdon trade:

"... Fremantle pick 22 in this year’s draft as well as a future 2nd rnd selection.  The Dockers have handed over pick 26 as part of the deal and a future 4th rnd selection, receiving the Demons’ pick 79...".

The early picks went out because of Academy/FS picks but the later picks came in for the same reason (lots of lesser picks used to get the total points).

Overall, the trade was approx a high 2nd round pick.

So agree Saad should be about the same.  However, there may be a bit of a bidding war as apparently North and Carlton are now keen.  I read that Saad wants a five year deal (Ess offered 4) and is keen to play finals.  The latter aspect would put us ahead of the pack.

As an aside, it looks like most clubs trade picks at initial 'natural value' otherwise there is too much second guessing how the academy/FS bids pan out on draft night and trades would stall.

I'm surprised that most seem to think our priorities lie in the back half.

I would be investing in forwards that aren't makeshift or mid-sized. We're desperate for both small forwards and a genuine beast (Dixon, Kennedy, Darling).

That said, Saad could be useful and an upgrade but I wouldn't be investing so much time and effort that it becomes detrimental to other possible deals.

Our priorities in order, in my opinion:

Elite kicks

Elite kicks

Elite kicks

Key forward (assuming tmac doesn't overcome his physical limitations- which by the by if he doesn't no other club will want him)

Outside runner (a bit here depends on baker's ceiling)

Above average small defender (a bit here depends on lockhart's ceiling) - 90% of opposition goals are scored by smalls and medium forwards and mids

Saad ticks four of those boxes.

Though of course if he played for us we would learn that, like may and Lewis , despite being an elite kick he would still turn it over plenty of times.

But unlike say lever he would also hit his share of high risk kicks from the back half that create critical scoring chains.

Pretty much bang on. We don't necessarily need a KPF. A very good small or mid sized forward would also improve our side.

And I must be less confident in Baker than you. I know he did ok on the weekend, but he is 22. I just don't see him ever really making it. (Hope I am wrong.)

I think kozzie covers the need for a very good small forward but agree that we could do with a really good mid sized forward (though not instead of a big)

Melksam and Hannan are not cutting the mustard and the best teams all have dangerous mid sized goals kicking options. thoih i guess you could argue Fritter is playing thta role for us.

The jury is well and truly out for me on baker. Before this last game i was also of the view that he was not going to make it, but he gave me some cause of optimism with his best game for the club (good timing too). Fingers crossed. In any case he is contracted for next year i think.

More than an early 2nd rounder?

Wants to play finals so why come to Melbourne? Of course we think/hope we will be playing finals in 2021 and beyond but for an outsider they'd look at 1 finals finish in 14 seasons as unlikely to fulfill that need.

If we can trade him for TMac I'd be all for it but player/player trades rarely happen anymore. If they do maybe we could throw in OMac as steak knives and get a 2nd rounder back ?

May just come down to price.  Saad reportedly 500-600k.  Zac Williams closer to a million.  I think currently Saad is the better player, in a much worse team.  Saad just wants to play half back and attack the game, said to be unhappy with being experimented in other positions.  Williams has more versatility but has a huge pricetag for what he is.  Would be stoked to get either honestly, both are great attacking type players with plenty of flair.

A backline of May/Lever/Rivers/Saad/Hibberd/Lockhart or Tomlinson sounds pretty amazing/exciting.

I hope we get one of these deals over the line!

Who the hell is paying a million for Zac Williams?? No way known he gets that unless he goes to North, they have to pay someone I guess.

Saad is good, not great. He breaks the lines which is exactly what we need. I wouldn't want to pay more than a 2nd rounder for him though he would be best 22 for us off half back.

I could see a scenario where we’d trade a future first for Saad and their second rounder. Deodoro would lose sleep at night not getting a first rounder (even if it meant also giving something back).

Yes he is the type of player we need  in fact he would be our quickest and most composed  with his long and short   precise kicking. Someone that almost always takes  the game on with minimal fuss.

However l  couldn't see  Essendon  being inviting as they are such a hard nut to deal with. They are a miserable lot.  SCROOGES!

Not 2021 first rounder for 2020 2nd rounder. That's terrible

Salem is twice the player that Saad is.

Not sure i agree with that cdp.

It is easy to fall into the trap of over rating certain players from other teams  at least it is for me. I see the occasional game and snapshots of saad for example.

And I see every game salem plays and are more attuned to any errors and poor bits of play.

All that said I'd have them on par. And is suspect if salem went to market he would have a similar trade and salary value as saad.

Yeah, fair call Binman. I'll admit I may have overstated the difference between the two but I'd have Salem ahead of Saad.

When Salem has the ball, I feel comfortable that we're almost certainly going to maintain posession and there's a fair chance something good will happen. I rate him highly.

When Saad has the ball, it feels like a 50/50 equation and that's not what we're aiming for.

Admittedly, I probably only watch a third to a half of Bombers games, so happy to hear from others who have watched more closely.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
