Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Saad would be ok but having to deal with Essendon on a trade I couldn't think of anything worse. Id rather leave it.

Lucky you are not negotiating then!  Saad is a gun that would be in first 6-8 players picked every week for us.  If he's available we should be offering 4-5 years and get him in.  He could take Fritsch role of last season at half back, this year it has been Harmes spot.  Saad would be massive upgrade on either.  I can only think of Zac Williams that comes close to the flair of this guy in his role.

Dodoro may be hard to deal with but not impossible.  Essendon love him because he tries to negotiate good deals for them.  If it were Peter Bell i could understand being more circumspect!  I can think of plenty worse...

I watch a lot of Essendon due to the wife. Has serious ball carrying speed, is a good long and short kick and very rarely loses a contest. If he is any chance should be our number 1 target.

Posted we should be after him when he left Suns and now people are saying we should get him.

Think it was at the same time I was saying to go after Finlayson, when he was up for contract.

No way would I do TMac and 22 for Saad.

That was my thinking. But we'd possibly have to pick up 100-200K of TMac salary as well i would have thought. I would still be targeting Zac Williams ahead of Saad though.

Yeah, would love Williams, haven't heard him linked to us yet though. Perhaps the financial requirements have put us out of the picture?

May just come down to price.  Saad reportedly 500-600k.  Zac Williams closer to a million.  I think currently Saad is the better player, in a much worse team.  Saad just wants to play half back and attack the game, said to be unhappy with being experimented in other positions.  Williams has more versatility but has a huge pricetag for what he is.  Would be stoked to get either honestly, both are great attacking type players with plenty of flair.

A backline of May/Lever/Rivers/Saad/Hibberd/Lockhart or Tomlinson sounds pretty amazing/exciting.

I hope we get one of these deals over the line!

Holy [censored]. Would take a 22 and Tomald swap in a heart-beat and run away as fast as I can (nowhere near as fast as Saad can run though, also; all the best to TMac. Hope he kicks a bunch of goals for them against everyone but us). Or they can have 22 and a future third-rounder, or a pair of brothers if they want. Still priority want Williams as a free agent but would more than happily take both. They got Saad cheap from memory so the optics are okay if he wants out.

Have no idea where to put this and didn't want to start a 'Not Conner Blakely' thread. But it feeds in a little bit. There was a curious side-note that we weren't interested in Blakely buried deep down in an article on his potential move last week. We were the only team mentioned as not being interested - and it felt like the journo had rung around and only got any info out of us. Are we leaking or is our recruitment team on the attack? Anyway, for me it adds weight that if we're being mentioned it's serious news.

In other news: anyone think that Saad could hold down a wing?

saad is incredibly overrated imo

t mac has had a shocking couple of seasons but talls > smalls

You need to let go of TMac. He's not going to fly again. And even if he does, it's at the detriment of our forward mix and development. I would prefer an overrated Saad running the ball out of half-back like no-one we currently have.

Disagree I suggest he would have a kicking efficiency as good if not better than Salems.

Good point is that any turnover is likely to be at half  forward Rather than between half back flank and wing and on the wing mostly. ( Apologies  to Ed Langdon  NOT on your watch ( wing) Ed we are generally forward like last few attacks vs GWS on Saturday night.)

Prob Williams is better player as has mid field skills and goal potential also BUT will cost another $200,000 per annum I reckon to lure him to us.

If Tmac were to say " I was injured ( knee and foot) but now im back to my best" how much would this influence things? Then swapping Tmac for Saad is almost a win for the Bombers without 22. Theres a lot to play out in this space .

C'mon Wells. Tomald is done. The foot issues have all but finished his career. I think it's really evident but there's still some romanticism on here that he can come back. Agility was never his strong point and whatever he did have is now gone as well. At 28 he's not coming back. Would be steak-knives at best to the Bombers or in any other trade. I also think culturally he is an issue to our particular team. I get the sense that he looks down on our young'uns with a certain level or arrogance and disdain (and sure, they don't come across as culturally that bright). But he also can't recognise his own short-comings.

Essendon traded a future second round pick to gold coast in 2017 to get Saad. (not sure what the pick ended up being exactly)

Has he improved much since then? If not, why should we pay much more than the Hawks second round pick we have since it'll probably end up being similar to what essendon originally used...

If we are taking our gaps in ball movement by foot / outside run as a serious problem, then we need to go after both Williams and Saad in my opinion. They will give us an immediate shot of outside run and elevate us to the top levels of the comp.

If this means getting rid of Tmac, pick 22 and some additional players, then we have to do it. It boils down to whether our midfield can have a team with Harmes, Brayshaw, Trac, Oliver, Viney & Sparrow in the best 22. I have always thought that we'd need to trade 1-2 of those 6 to get what we lack.

Love Saad. McDonald has little trade currency so i'd imagine melbourne would trade their 2 second rounders for a first round selection and trade that for Saad.

We only have 1 second rounder don't we? (Courtesy of the Hawks)

Freo have our 2nd rounder this year.

It's impossible to say what pick 22 will end up as, but I would have thought an early second round pick is close to spot-on for Saad.
Would happily part with 22, but think throwing in TMac is overs unless something else comes our way.

Would be reminiscent of the Melksham/Hibberd trades.

I'm surprised that most seem to think our priorities lie in the back half.

I would be investing in forwards that aren't makeshift or mid-sized. We're desperate for both small forwards and a genuine beast (Dixon, Kennedy, Darling).

That said, Saad could be useful and an upgrade but I wouldn't be investing so much time and effort that it becomes detrimental to other possible deals.

would gladly give up our future first for saad, maybe with a swap of later picks in our favour. Saad has elevated himself to an A-grader this year, he has elite speed, elite kicking, and very good defensively now. Has improved his game dramatically this year, and he's exactly the kind of player we need, and will allow Salem to push up to a wing. His trade value is mid first round.

definitely need both. I don't think Saad is a specific need for the back half but moreso to add speed to the team.  If we don't get Saad, we need to add so much speed to our team.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
