Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Who should our next coach be?

Reading this article and i feel that some hard truths and not going hard enough from Greg williams would be welcome (he was let go and would be a good midfield mentor to a number of our players). As for a coach, if it's not goodwin it has to be someone hard who actually can change plans in game and may know some tactics.. (clarkson)

https://www.afl.com.au/news/497517/-you-ve-got-to-toughen-up-diesel-slams-carlton-s-former-no-3-pick

I mentioned this article in another thread. He knows how to get the inside blokes working (Jobe, Kennedy (swans), T.Mitchell)

I remember seeing something with Tom Mitchell and Diesel and their relationship was working wonders. Available to each other to discuss tactics, review or plan ahead.

There’s plenty of smart ex-footballers around that could be used independently by our guys, I wonder if they get the freedom to do that?

It’s embarrassing having one of the best rucks in the game and making him the oppositions best weapon each week.

Jeez I hope I haven't inadvertently started the most epic fake news story ever, the kind that marketing students at uni study as a text book case of gaslighting everyone. Starts with a blog post, then gets picked up by MSM and off it goes.

Meanwhile 8 weeks later, Goodwin is sacked. Bartlett turns to Pert and says "now, about that back of couch money we found. Can we cut the cheque?" Pert: "Wait what? I thought you found it."

j/k

I'm fairly certain someone put it in the eponymous "Is Goodwin The Chosen One" thread. I think the Deebrief mentioned it too. Blame them, blame them!

Hahaha that'd be gold. If this scene happened, I'd actually feel like I got value from my membership. It's interesting though, we'll find out very soon whether any money was behind the couch!

I mentioned him in my last post, not a fan, ask Bombers supporters too. Could play for sure but similar issues to what we are having.

I couldn't GAF what Bombers fans think.  That said, I have no interest in getting Brad Scott, and that's based on what North fans think!

The bloke is past it.  You are spot on about his time with West Coast, but that's an eternity ago.  He's done okay at the Bombers prior to this year, but he would feel like stepping sideways than stepping up if we appointed him.

I know we can do better.

We can do better?  Really?  We want an experienced coach, and ideally one that understands what success is.  Who is on this list that meets these requirements?

Worsfold? The same bloke who is coaching Essendon? Ummm no!

Rutten is coaching Essendon, Worsfold's just the spokesman.

Exactly, he's not coaching them (as per my point directly above this one).

(Reasonably realistic) wish list...

Head Coach (3-4 years) - Ross Lyon
Forward Coach/Successor - Adem Yze
Midfield Coach - Dean Solomon
Backline Coach - Luke Hodge
Ruck/Stoppages - Ben Mathews
Part Time Goal Kicking Coach - Brad Green
Head Of Development - Mark Williams
Development Coach - Jordan Lewis
Director Of Football - Alan Richardson

"Reasonably realistic wish list"?  Is that different to an unrealistic wish list?  All due respect, what you have listed above looks quite like the latter.  But, perhaps your "sources" have told you something?

That reminds me, I haven't checked my Facebook feed for a while, best get on to that.

All seriousness though, it will be interesting to see what the changes to the soft cap will be, and how clubs structure their FDs moving forward.  Chances are a model like the above will be about double what we will be allowed to pay, so it'll mean people will be taking a reasonable pay cut, or clubs will have less staff.

One thing for me is that I'm really questioning Ben Mathews' ability.  We have some gun midfielders, a gun ruckman, yet we can dominate the clearances.

That is embarrassing and  awful.  It is up there with the Richmond players touching Chol during their song.  Butler did the same at the Saints.  Must be the Richmond culture.  Never liked Chaplin, a Mahoney mate from Port days.

He was an average player who has added nothing to our club as fwd or a defence coach.

Time to go.

That's pathetic. Chaplin, [censored] right off.

The other problem af is people are over estimating the quality of the list. It is a mid level team if things go our way. We have a large number of average players.

Agreed.

Overall our list is ordinary. Certainly not a list that will bring sustained success. Far too many players who don’t get enough of the pill and whose skills are poor.

1. Longmire

Given you've got Longmuir in here, Yze should be in calculation.

My understanding is that Freo wanted Yze, but he didn't want to move his family.

I agree about Matthews totally. The first change I wanted at the end of last season was a change in stoppage coach.

Considering Max in the ruck and the ability of our midfield we get nothing like the advantage we should. Statistically we do OK but the quality of "take away" from stoppages is way less than the opposition. Opposition sides only need to win 40% of the stoppages against us and they will be in front due to the way they release and open up from stoppages compared to us.

We specialise in the hack quick kick forward. We suffered right through 2019 with everybody in at the contest while the opposition had guys on the outside. We couldn't re-program our guys without changing the coaching set up first. It may be marginally better this season but I only grant marginal.

Please replace the stoppage coach as an absolute priority to try to take advantage of what should be a strength. Maybe then that will feed into better connection with the forward line etc

Amazing to think we are 5 pages in, and this post will be the first time his name is mentioned.  There's a bloke that's absolutely gettable, has been a premiership coach and won two as a player, was a ruthless competitor on field, isn't afraid to give a spray where needed.

John Worsfold.

He rebuilt West Coast's list over 3 years (2008-2010), then saw them win 18 games in 2011 and 16 in 2012.  West Coast were generally a bloody hard team to beat when he was in charge (yes, I appreciate the home ground advantage argument) other that those 3 years mentioned above.  Then in his last 3 years at Essendon, they too have generally been around the mark.

He knows what it takes.

West Coast are a well-run operation.

Throw almost any league coach into that situation and they'd likely thrive.

We give way too much credit (and criticism) to head coaches. For the most part, they're all preaching pretty similar philosophies. Yes, they play a leadership role but so do many others.

These are large organisations with differing resources at their disposal.

Generally, over time, these differences are reflected in the success that a football club has.

We can keep shuffling coaches until the cows come home, but the club as a whole needs to find a way to get out of survival mode - where we put economic decisions ahead of football decisions - and move toward a model that puts winning at the forefront of any club decisions.

One out of left field and i don't think he'd cost a packet.  Might allow us to afford the payout and move on in the short term.  Premiership coach.  Seems to be a decent man manager at least.

Probably better as an assistant only but would be a substantial improvement on the present and should be able to get the best out of this group.  Possibly a bit of a modern day Northey type?

Loves his footy, loves anyone involved in the game and presently coaching Werribee.  Also running a kicking skills program on the side.  That on it's own is a necessity for our lot!  Maybe even a mentor / game day mind set / skills coach for the boys...

Get back Roos.

He owes us, is a clever man (had an exit strategy) was great with the media at protecting the team and individuals from being torched and if he had of stayed rather than passing on to Goody would have us in a better place than we are now.

He also likes Melbourne and genuinely would like to see us win that elusive premiership. Given the list is in better shape than when he took over last time he might get excited by the idea.

And he owes us.

If he wants a succession plan get Hodge.

seems to me our problems are much more than just a coach or coaches

what worries me is we could replace the coach, much of the fd, mahoney, pert most of the board......

......and then we would be further in debt.....

.....and getting a new home (which we desperately need) then gets put back another decade.

and no-one wants to come to come to a club that has no proper home

so, given all our problems, now might be a good bargaining time to get afl/gov support  for a new home and not blow a lot of money into the breeze with a massive expensive reorganisation as we've done so poorly many times over

just thinking

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
