Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Difference here is that Cripps still got votes

To be fair, so did Koz....

2020 AFL RISING STAR LEADERBOARD

1. Caleb Serong (Fremantle) — 48 votes

2. Noah Anderson (Gold Coast Suns) — 39

3. Max King (St Kilda) — 28

4. Izak Rankine (Gold Coast Suns) — 16

5. Will Day (Hawthorn) — 12

6. Brandon Starcevich (Brisbane Lions) — 6

7. Kysaiah Pickett (Melbourne) — 1

Yep, the next Rhys Palmer

The award means little. Rowell is clearly the biggest rising star in the game

The award does mean a bit look at the list of rising Star award winners, up until 2012 the only player that did not become a very good play was Phys Palmer, only 12 % of players play 100 games all of them played over that. But we do not need another inside mid, kossie will become a very good player, runs all day and both ways.

Who should we pick up in this years draft mate, who’s going to be the best?

Yep, glad you're bringing this up. Can't wait to tap into his insight knowledge again. He does his best work in here ?

Truth is Goodwin continues to talk about contested ball and we continue to draft players like Sparrow and Spargo while playing inside mids like Jones and Brayshaw on the wing and flank positions.

Taking Serong would be a disaster.

We went from prelims to 17th. Let’s that soak in.

We traded pick 8 (Serong) to Freo for pick 10 (Pickett) and Pick 32 (Rivers)

Aside from the general problems I have with your posting/complaining, I just cannot see how anyone can look at this trade and be upset.

Rivers fits our needs more than Serong does (bearing in mind you yourself said during the lead up to last year's draft that we had no need for another inside mid like Serong) and has shown more than enough this year to suggest he'll be a really strong long-term player for us.

And then we get Pickett on top of that (and also a 4th round pick this year, which I suppose we could still use).

As far as I'm concerned it's a great result for us.

It turned out to be a great result for both clubs.

Good on Serong for winning the award, but I'm more than content with our outcome from that draft as well.

Cheers, for me since we got both Rivers and Pickett I’m pretty comfortable with the trade. Pickett’s biggest issue for me is his finishing, got himself into good spots plenty of times but failed to put it through the big sticks.

Technically Rivers shouldn’t be part of the equation as we gave up a 2nd rounder as part of the pick swap (2019 2nd and 2020 first for pick 8).

We would have been able to draft him either way if we hadn’t done the swaps. It’s really down to just picket/serong

That doesn't make any sense.

We would not have had the option of taking Rivers without trading the pick for Serong.

You are getting confused. You are talking about keeping our 2020 first rounder which means we still would not have Serong.

There's a solid set of Rising Stars who go on to be just 'good' players rather than best of their draft.

Just since Palmer you can point to Stephenson, Mills, Hogan, McGrath, Taylor, O'Meara, Talia.  I doubt their clubs are regretting drafting them (not even Melbourne, who ended up with May despite everything) and I doubt Fremantle will regret having Serong.

It's a shame Kysaiah played over the ten games in his first season and isn't eligible, or he could have mimicked his uncle and grabbed the award in his second year.  Of course, ol' uncy Byron turned out OK despite only getting two disposals in his first season.

With the condition Pickett seems to be in, there's a real chance he'll be twice the player he was in 2020.  Being involved in that many more contests, being that little bit less fatigued when taking shots, being that little bit harder and heavier when tackling.  We all know he's got the alertness and initiative to be great.

im worried about pickett. he fumbles, he falls over, he goes too quick for his own good, he lacks composure, he can't read the play, his tackling is poor. Not sure he has the tools to make it.

Noticed any positive traits yet? ?

by far his best game and I'm glad to finally see him convert and apply better pressure around the ground. Credit where credit is due, he improved in a lot of these facets of the game in this game.  I definitely haven't seen this sort of performance in him until now so lets hope he backs it up.

Another game where Jackson has shown not to be a forward though. So im still correct on that front.

He's right until he's wrong and then he moves on to being right about something else so he's only ever wrong for a moment.

If you were capable of learning lessons, the bolded bit is the key here, and would impact your final line.

No doubt in my mind this will go down as a genius trade. Pickett is exactly what this club needs for so many reasons.

and Rivers will play 200 games. Making a few errors but he will settle in. He has such confidence.

Where would we play Serong if we had him anyway?

Pickett will be a gun and fills a massive need for us. Serong is a fine young player and will form part of a formidable Freo midfield unit for years to come. Both parties will be perfectly satisfied with this trade i reckon.

I guess we should acknowledge and thank North for facilitating the initial pick swap. They’ve netted Tom Powell this year but too early to tell if he’ll make it.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
