Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The OMac experiment with him up forward for 10 minutes was proof Goodwin is out of his depth. Absolute scattergun coaching

100%.

Ridiculous.

I had departed for the shower before this happened.  I'd seen enough.  My 11 year old ran down to me and shouted 'Dad, Oscars up forward"

Convinced I misheard him I shouted back 'Who?'

'Omac' came the reply

'[censored]'

'Yep'

And there in the shower, on the 3rd of September, 2020, water splashing down on me the last fires of hope I had for this season were extinguished.

If by chance we still scrape into the finals it will have nothing to do with our coach.  He is pathetic.  Since his treatment of Watts, and his appointing of two captains I have been unable to appreciate anything this bloke does.  An absolute disaster of a coach.

Just watched Goodwin’s presser, every week, he relates what happened (we know, we were watching) but gives no explanation about why and either what could have been done to prevent the devastating loss or what was the difference in the win. It tells us nothing.

and I’m fixated on the left leg scratch, tonight he tried very hard to try alternatives, like scratching his head.

really, who would be a senior coach?

I'm as flat as I've ever been in terms of watching this club.  There's lots of good analysis on here in terms of the origins of the multitude of ills but I need look no further than the effort based indicators.  18th in the competition for tackling says it all.  The two way running is another.  Sloppy handballs are another.   Goodwin has lost them.  It's terminal.

I long for the days of John Northey and the concept of having a red hot go.

18th in tackles? That’s not the brand, or learnings we hear about each week. Hmmm, has he lost the players?

What makes me most angry is even though I backed the Swans at $3.25 it was only a token $20 bet. I should've loaded up on them, this was so predictable every Melbourne supporter knew deep down it's exactly what would happen.

Oh well, I can make up for it backing us against Freo and GWS and then loading up on the Bombers as we all know the season will come down to that game just like the Pies in 2017 and we will completely [censored] the bed again.

Those things are not mutually exclusive.

I can tell you what Allan Richardson brings to the team. He brings insight on how to beat St Kilda. That's about it. Suddenly we had a team with a plan. They played completely the opposite of how they played tonight. They played with composure and controlled the tempo and knew what they had to do to beat them. Fast forward to today and they played with zero composure, didn't adjust for the conditions and panicked. Furthermore, they got utterly sucked in by the Swans game plan - great idea to keep running the ball out of bounds and restart play when we need to play attacking footy and narrow the gap.

I think we relatively are high on footy talent but scrape the bottom of the barrel when it comes to footy intelligence. Then there are the selection issues.

Cam we stop ****img talking about Richardson.  He was [censored] at St. Kilda and he is still [censored].  Its not complicated at all.

Is this some hub protocol or did Melbourne royally [censored] up their logistics here today? Why wouldn’t they have flown to Cairns on Sunday or Monday?

Cazaly Stadium is a couple of thousand kays north of the Sunshine Coast let alone Metricon.

It's not that subjective.

It's not fair on Goodwin to suggest last week was some fluke driven by May and Petracca. Our team set up, zone and ball movement were all indicative of a plan that came together to stifle St Kilda's ball movement. It worked. He coached very well last week.

Tonight was a return to normality though. Sydney had a plan for us, whatever plan we had didn't work, and Goodwin was powerless to change it mid-game. Couple that with his inability to ensure we were ready to go at the first bounce and you get classic Goodwin.

backing the demons to win 39+ next week.  the odds will be juicy and our performances are a total random walk, its just as likely as anything else. Er, on second thoughts, so is freo 39+.  Might hold off.

As Freo travelled with them on the plane, I would assume they attended the match today.

Would have learnt a lesson from Longmuir, on how to play us.

Give them some confidence and some sledging material.

Hope MFC are finished drinking from the bath.

Time for a bounce back.

Hang on, far too many passengers all year.

So can our stars rise for the occasion.

I don't know. +39 or - 39.

Anything could happen it is the, MFC?

Yep, you can forgive skill errors or execution but you cannot forgive effort. It was obvious within minutes we were not on. Players getting run down with no awareness of their opposition. Dinky little kicks going 15m up and 15m across. Handballs over the head to no-one. Targeting Aliir as if he were our key forward. Same old [censored] and all comes down to preparation, mindset and effort.

Not an excuse, possibly not even a relevant factor, but something to note:

Tonight was our fifth consecutive game at a different venue. On 5 August we were in Adelaide. We played two games in four days, then flew back to Queensland to play in Brisbane, then the Gold Coast, then did a day trip to Alice Springs, then five days later flew up to Cairns.

It's been a difficult run. No consistency. Lots of flying/driving around.

Again. I'm not suggesting this is a nice convenient way to explain our performance tonight. But it's something to bear in mind. Particularly if we play well on Sunday vs Fremantle, despite the four-day break (maybe getting to just stay still for a bit and get used to a venue will help).

Got home late and just watch the game.

Gee, what a woeful effort for most of the game, whereas the swans pressure were great and know where to stand to pitch our little hand balls etc, plus their riving knowledge so far better than ours around packs.  They tried to win it late, but couldn't kick straight.

But in the end goals win matches and we may have pinched it, but for woeful kicking from multiple players whose job is to kick it between two non-moving sticks.  But couldn.t

Switched it off with Langdon's kick-in straight to the swans player.

Omac should not play again in the backline (and most likely no where else), his inability to execute a kick or contest (used to be able to) should be the end of him. Lastly bad luck for Jone's to end his career like that (I assume he was injured or simply left on the bench as he can't keep up)

After the Saints match I said Goody deserved praise for the way the gameplay worked, this match the players looked lost everywhere around the ground. Going forward we had no system despite the amount of opportunities we had. It was very reminiscent of 2019. Big fail on Goodwin today.

I think that’s our season cooked, I can see us finishing on 9 wins which will have us miss out by the draw Collingwood had with Richmond. No way do I see us beating GWS with that pathetic effort today and now we have to back it up with a short break vs Freo.

Wasted year. Time to move on Oscar, he can’t continue to get games and be completely out of his depth. His selection this game was downright baffling considering we brought in Smith as well. I didn’t mind sending him forward as something different but looked at sea there as well so he has go.

No time for them to lament this poor performance though, Freo in 4 days could end our season officially.

What kind of disposals are they?

If flat kicks, they don't get above the defender.

The dinks are made for interceptors.

At training last year they were emphasising the trajectory were the balls gains height with a concave flight and then drops quickly on the head of the player.

They are not skilled enough to do it with pressure.

Perhaps the coaches expectations are too high, and they don't train to their abilities.

Well, that was certainly a throwback to the worst of Melbourne.  Those directionless bombs forward just killed us.  Poor kicking all over the field, bad decision-making, tackles not sticking...  All the good stuff.

One thing I feel the need to point out.  Whether it's a good thing or a damning indictment?  Maybe both?

Anyway, those two sitters missed by Gawn and Langdon both resulted in the Swans taking the ball down the ground and scoring goals.  Obviously it's a flawed bit of thinking, but if we were to add those missing 10 points to our score and delete the 13 points the Swans got from them, it's another narrow win to us.

Obviously those weren't the only goals we missed today, but they were probably the worst.  More importantly, the top sides don't miss those shots.  It's just a fact of life.  If a Geelong mid has a set shot from 45m directly in front, you're going to back them to put it through the middle.  If they have a set shot from 25-20 out, you'd more or less put your house on it.  With us it's always a coin toss and today more of those tosses went the wrong way.  The same with West Coast.  Maybe not Hawthorn any more, but certainly before they started to slide.  It's such a basic. fundamental part of the game and getting it wrong is unforgivable.  It's the same thing my old squash coach used to say.  Serving a fault is completely unacceptable.  The serve is the only shot in the game where you are in complete control.  You can put that ball anywhere you want without your opponent influencing it in any way.  The same holds true for a basic set shot.  You are in complete control of what you do with the ball.  Nobody can tackle or push you.  It is completely unacceptable for these players to not be able to convert such basic chances and it's something that no professional player should ever mess up.  </rant>

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
