Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A 4.5 day break and the cumulative impact of short breaks might be an issue but I don't see the travel as a big deal.  They were in the same time zone.  Most working people are up by 7.00 am.  Players have everything done for them.

We shouldn't be letting everyone off the hook with travel and stuff.   Coaches and players had their chances tonight; they stuffed it.

You are an articulate and thoughtful poster Luci - I'll suggest an edit for you.

So I'm starting this before the end of the game, as I'm so angry and disappointed and let down that I need to write something down to get it off my chest.

That game was lost from the moment Salem was pinged for holding the ball in the first five seconds.  We played lazy, selfish, arrogant football and we were taught a football lesson by a team that has been distinctly average all season.  They came in with a plan - to get a man behind the ball to either pick off the long kick, or to help with mopping up when it hits ground level.  They did it all night.  Have a think about how many times we crumbed a goal, or truly put some forward pressure on?  It was rare, at best.

We also lost this at selection.  Losing Hibberd hurt, and you could understand the reasoning behind Hannan and AVB going out, but the ins made no sense.  Joel Smith?  Yeah, he was okay in patches, but we know he doesn't work down there.  And what about Oscar.  Sheesh.  I hate to be that supporter, but this bloke can't play another senior game for us.  He was God awful.  But that's on Goodwin - why is he playing him?  What has Lockhart done to be dropped and left in the wilderness?  And as above - what of our forward pressure?  I thought Spargo did okay here and there, but others like Fritta, Melksham (outside of some good kicks in the first term), ANB etc provided little to no pressure and they did as they pleased.

But the concern, again, is through the midfield.  We are a contested ball winning, clearance team... and we were getting beat by one of the worst clearance sides in the comp.  What is going on here?  We are built for that sort of footy, yet we can't get our hands on it enough.

We can't even use the 'tired' excuse - the Swans were coming off the same break, they made less changes and looked far fresher than us.  They hounded us, got numbers around the ball and we looked helpless to do anything about it.

But I'm hurting after that.  Not just from the result, but from getting my hopes up yet again.  This is just the sort of game we lose, but I thought to myself that surely we have matured since then.  I couldn't have been more wrong.

And he has been a warrior for us, but Nathan Jones summed up our effort tonight in the second term.  With a chance of turning the momentum a little with a shot on goal, he lazily turns and kicks on his left, straight into the bloke on the mark.  Just unforgivable.  He is a wonderful Melbourne man, but he should never play for us again.  Stuff the 300.  We can't have experienced players in the side setting that sort of example.  It's just not on.

Lastly - because I need to say something positive - Ed Langdon is a ripper.  Yeah, he missed a few shots on goal, but his two way running and effort is something that all our players should watch.

If I could, I've give everyone here a hug.  I can't, so I'll send an e-hug instead.

They didn't beat us in contested ball. We won more contests, and we had 11 more inside 50s. its down to two words. Confidence and SKILL. We come off a good win and play with no confidence in our kicking. Our skills are a shambles. We have to accept this with our one sided recruiting.

I've had it with Oscar McDonald's pathetic performances. Surely there is someone else on our list who will put in more effort and intent. Cant believe Goodwin thought it was a good idea to put him forward for part of today.

Omac missses a mark or tackle

*trudge trudge trudge*

Omac gently extends arm to opposition

*trudge trudge trudge*

Opposition either:
A) fumbles the ball

*Omac runs over it and falls over*

B) passes it to a team mate nearby

*Omac initiates turning circle of a truck, misses the player and slowly jogs it out over the boundary*

*feigns exhausted face, head down, trudge trudge trudge*

Me on couch with head in hands: "ffs
Oscar..."

he was shocking tonight and we just can't keep him on the list. Get Petty right, recruit another young tall and axe him. simple decision.

One has to question why we just bombed the ball fwd for the whole first half, completely headless stuff we reverted back to what we were doing at the start of the year. Why would they do that makes absolutely zero sense but seemed to be a conscious decision.

Well I think we can put that theory to bed. He was [censored] useless and back to his normal footy iq.

HE SHOULD NEVER PLAY FOR US AGAIN.

I'm still LOLing at this theory..

He wasn't the problem but he is a problem. He wasn't the reason we lost, we can thank all our self-annointed superstars for that. May and maybe Langdon the only two who had a crack. The rest of them can get stuffed.

when he turns the ball over and they goal, he is a KEY reason we lost. He was terrible tonight. sometimes under the least pressure of all our players.

Bull [censored]. They matched us for contested ball for at least 3 quarters. We might have leveled it up late when they racked it but it's another classic case of being a little off in that area and sucking.

Surprised no one is pointing out the massive 2 disp by Weiderman. I know he's shown reasonable form over the last month, but whatever way we look at it that was a pathetic game. Simply terrible.

I don't think you can blame this one on Weideman. Short of just running through someone Plugger on Caven style I don't how much he could impact the game considering the game plan and forward structure we had. Not to mention the Swans 3rd man up, flooding our forward line and Fritsch blocking him out of marking contests. Plenty of others to blame before having a crack at Weid who has done everything asked of him since returning this year.

how is it bull $%^& when you don't disagree with what I wrote ? we won contested ball. simple as that.  go watch the third quarter. skills, skills and skills killed us tonight. I'm getting sick after every loss putting it down to effort. its not always that.We had chances moving forward and positioned well and we just kicked horrendously, even for us.

Geee wizz last week I said I’ve not commented on Goodys coaching ability but let’s hold fire on Goodys amazing coaching performance tonight as 2 players won us that game and I got the  “are you serious?! He out coached them”... welp looks like a little humble pie might be needed for a couple on here.. How would you rate his incredible plan today folks?

The “what they’re saying down at xxx St” threads are the same every week, “stop Trac, Oli and Gawn and we win. Geeez the MFC are fizz weak. These guys always get ahead of themselves..”

We always say no one respects us... here is yet another reason why no other players, coaches, clubs or fans respect this club. Very few members/fans do either. Ducking pathetic output and outcome.

He outcoached Ratten last week. He got outcoached by Longmire this week.

Those things are not mutually exclusive.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
