Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Trent Rivers Rising Star?

Sorry folks, all of a sudden, Sholl from the Crows might be more likely to be nominated this week. 24 touches and 2 goals against the Blues.

Perhaps this thread could be renamed "Trent Rivers, Rising Star? Without the Rising Star Nomination".

Deserves a nomination but there may be another player (e.g. Sholl) who played a better game this week.

The nomination-based system for the Rising Star is dumb.

Anyway, the recognition is nice but it also doesn't matter much. We've seen plenty of Rising Star winners not go on with it in their careers, and vice versa.

Let's just enjoy what we've got in Rivers, which is a young kid who has the right attitude, clear talent, and has already shown an ability and willingness to improve his game even in his first year.

The all-too-early signs are that our 2019 draft/trade period, bringing us Jackson, Pickett, Rivers and Langdon, has been a success.

Rising Star is a weekly award that is bs. The last ‘star’ it captured was Selwood back in 2007.

In it’s 27 years of identifying potentially elite players, imo only 6 have gone on to be worthy of the title (Buckley, Cousins, Goodes, Riewoldt, Mitchell and Selwood).

Not even the likes of Judd / Hodge and Roughead / Franklin get a look in. With Koschitzke and Deledio deemed to be more ‘star’ worthy.

If only Rusty! 5 weeks without a drink, on the back of covid restrictions, whilst supporting Melbourne.... thought I'd punish myself!

In all seriousness, it's one of the best decisions I've made in a long time, and I'm a somewhat healthy 40 something year old.

I'm not sure self flagellation is a good idea during lockdown EO!

Can't remember us recruiting a kid defender who looks as poised as Riv in his first year. His maturity is beyond his years and has not looked out if place since his first game.

Has already become one of those players who make you relax when he has the footy.

The other rivers had  the best frist year ever by a defender, that I have ever seen.

More often then not the winner has a good career.

Has already made a half back flank his own but i reckon he has all the traits to be a seriously good mid as his tank improves.

I'll go one better as a midfielder and also a get out of jail firward (Kenny Hunter Carlton style).

Also he will be a Melbourne Captain Within 5 years

No pressure Riv

Yup, hes too good to be sitting in a back pocket minding  a player.  Will be a very attacking half back or a winger.

Well if Goody played our best back pocket Riv would be on a HB flank
( not so sure he wasn't on HB flank last night actually) Reckon Nev was minding Daniels most of the night nearer the goals.

So Rivers kicks the winning goal in a tough elimination finals type game and he misses out.  Surely you have look beyond the pure stats. Even Rivers spoil in the last 15 seconds showed his heart and toughness to match his skill and run.

Sholl played a good game in a match that counted for nothing really.

Claimed him as my boy from from the moment we drafted him.

Have been saying that while all the draft hype was on Jackson and Pickett, this is is as good if not better then both.

Absolute steal who i rated in the top 20.

Spot on. Seems to have a great balance of competitiveness and composure, well beyond his years.

Can see him pushing into the midfield once he develops his tank, and, being really, really damaging.

I thought they looked at a data range of games in the recent past, i.e. not just this week in making their decision.

Typical of the AFL to pick and choose. Swing like a rusty barn door on one hinge in the wind. I can see the internal decision making process now - if we give it to the Crows, it builds some hope over the off season that they've got a good up and coming list....blah blah blah

Quaynor getting the nomination is a joke. Rivers and Scholl were significantly better than him this week. Also if you're looking at body of work Rivers and Quaynor have basically the same stats this season.

What a joke!! Quaynor.

1- Rivers kicks the winning goal in a tough elimination finals type game and he misses out.  Rivers kicks two crucial goals.  Even Rivers spoil in the last 15 seconds showed his heart and toughness to match his skill and run.

2- Quaynor got 17 possessions against Rivers 16 possessions.   Often running past for a handball.  Trent Rivers got 8 contested possessions compared to Quaynor 4 contested.

3- Sexton kicks 3 goals in the first quarter on Quaynor who gets moved.  Somehow that must have been missed !!

There is bias in the decision. Just my opinion.

They're pretty consistent with the way they judge these.

Form across multiple weeks outweighs one big game. To be honest, I don't mind it.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim
