Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A former top 10 pick and only 23 years old will probably be on the lookout for a new club at the end of the year. He’s been hit by injury over the last couple of seasons and might relish being at a new club. Would we look at getting him?

What we can get from Geelong for Preuss, has been a bit of a thought bubble this week and Nakia crossed my mind half way through the game last night while pondering the need for one more small forward/outside mid. We'd have to back ourselves to get him right of course.

The Cats hopeful downfall this year at the expense of Richmond or WCE in the ruck, should give us the upper hand in having our needs met and getting overs through their desperation. We should wrangle one of their WCE T Kelly picks eg We'd give Preuss and Hawks 2nd approx #22, they'd give Cockatoo and pick 15 or 16. I don't like the idea of a straight player swap given the injury history.

we should just do a straight swap for one of  their 1st round picks. They should be looking to use 1 or 2 of their picks to fill immediate needs while they have Hawkins in the premiership window

Collingwood fan site recruiting guru Colin Wisbey was asked the question about him and he responded with a “no” because of the “durability” risk. He believes that the Pies have a poor record for managing to have its best 30 players on the park and doesn’t think the risk with him is justified.

Also, he thinks the injuries might have curtailed his capability as a “slippery runner” which is what made him such a highly ranked draftee.

I tend to agree with this view. The AFL hasn’t yet determined things like list sizes and draft rules and Melbourne already  has those four injured horsemen who have missed the entire season through injury as well as a few others yet to play this year. We’re also nursing Harley Bennell back into the game. I think Cockatoo wouldn’t be one of our main targets.

Collingwood have had massive troubles keeping players on the park since replacing the fitness team that was there during Matlhouse era.

When he's up and running he's exactly what we need, and is far from mid-paced. It's a big "if", but if Burgess and our medical team thought they were capable of getting him on the park, I would absolutely take him; he's capable of being one of the best players in the competition.

Exactly.  The kid has talent but it’s burgo’s call.

Injury prone from his pre-AFL days and not a hard track worker by all accounts.  Read into that whatever you will. Further, we have plenty of mids.  Our trouble spot is CHF although I am hoping Harry Petty can fill that gap.

No idea.

@Mach5 you'd have better insights into the merits of 'the birdcage' than most. How would you rate him in the context of improving our overall list?

Durability is the key; it surprises me that The Filth actually used that word relative to the player - who would have thought that they could use words of more than two syllables? We already have an outstanding footballer almost in the wings, in Bennell, who is more than capable of such a role for the team - once this durability issues are sorted. We really need with some urgency a centre half back type of player with mongrel.

He's got explosive pace and when up and running he's the type of midfielder we're lacking - someone with the ability to play both inside and outside.

That said, he's had injury issues dating back to before he was even drafted. Unless it's on rookie wage, it wouldn't be worth the investment trying to get his body right. If he's got poor attitude as someone else mentioned, then it's a pass.

Not sure about that, but I think it’s pretty much a case of WYSIWYG.

Pace, agility, pressure, fragility.

Would be a nice piece to add, but I’m not sure we could afford what he might get offered elsewhere.

Linc McCarthy had hardly played at Geelong and hasn't missed a beat since going to  Brisbane. If I were Cockatoo I'd be on the first flight north.

He has tremendous talent but I do wonder if he's the quick pressure mid/forward we need.

We need a guy like Parfitt or Butters or both. Someone to add pressure like Parfitt does who doesn't need 25 touches a game or someone like Butters who can run contest to contest at half forward.

Cockatoo has speed and skill, but he's also a ball winner and after 3 years out it's hard to train that explosive pressure and contest to contest run in to a guy.

The Cats  midfield is playing far better this year with Parfitt and Guthrie alongside Danger and Selwood rather than Tim Kelly.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
