Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?

The club has JUST started to apply forward pressure required to reduce the ridiculous ease with which our opposition could waltz the ball out of our backline. Having someone like Hogan in this current team would take us backwards in this area.

I was sick of seeing him sook to the umpires, and fail to put on pressure when he didnt have the ball.

His trade, where we originally looked like we got unders, has turned out to be good for the club. It hurt us initially, but Jesse has done nothing since he left. I really believe his heart isnt in it. The poor bloke has been through heaps off the field and i dont think we could turn him around.

If culture is worth anything, he probably isnt worth the risk.

We also got pick 23(?) In the deal, which I believe is Sparrow.

Thank you Jesse.

Yes, we took Sparrow  (ended up being pick 27 after compensation/academy picks).

We dominated this deal.  Of course the flipside is what we could have taken at pick 6.  But if Sparrow continues to become a very good player its daylight robbery, if it isn't already.

Fremantle took a player called Brett Bewley at pick 65 (became 59 after teams passed picks).  Just looked and hes already 25 so was mature age. No idea if he can play

Melbourne

In - Picks 6 and 23

Out - Jesse Hogan, pick 65

Reminds me of Jeff Farmer. Was on the brink of becoming one of the all time great small forwards in the game.

Jeff had said he wanted to be a 10-year player at Melbourne, and become a MFC life member ... then he got a new manager, and within two weeks suddenly harboured a life-long dream to go back to Perth. Like a miracle.

Even when he was with us he looked like a bloke who preferred mucking around with his mates than do this thing he happened to be good at, namely, playing footy. I reckon he'd be more content playing at a lower level for the fun of it, and the after-match p*ss-up, where it's not for sheep stations and there is less scrutiny.

Would probably end up at the Hawks with our other castoffs (Frawley, Scully, Frost). They love collecting former junior prodigies with unfulfilled talent due to injuries or other issues.

That philosophy has been a disaster for them.  Clarkson too arrogant for his own good in the end.

I won't keep banging on, don't want to hijack the thread, so I'll make this my last one.

He hasn't produced on the field for 2 season.

He was traded away with no hesitation by Melbourne so I don't understand where you're getting this welcome home vibe from (other than supporter romanticism). It's not up to Melbourne to do things for him, we're trying to be a successful footy club.

People are projecting things onto this situation that just aren't factual.

LNev I always regard your input highly but I have clicked like on many of those supporting.

I don't resile from that despite agreeing with all the points you have made.

However either yes or no would strongly  require full and open disclosure of the total decision making process.

We are unlikely to get that and so like you I don't think it's worth commenting further.

I loved Hogan as a Demon and the romantic side of me would love to see him back in red and blue... however the club were more than happy to move him on for a variety of reasons. It seems like it’s been the right move as he continues to have off field issues and injury issues. His best is likely well behind him.

I don’t believe that it’s possible for Jesse Hogan to return to being the 17 year old who walked into the club all those years ago or the 20 year old who won the NAB Rising Star or the 21 year old who was the club’s leading goal kicker for the second year in a row. There have been too many episodes in his career in the intervening years both at Melbourne then at Fremantle for him to come back. There’s a chance he could possibly come good somewhere else like at the Eagles or the Swans but he did his dash at Melbourne two years ago.

Are you alluding to a particular incident, WJ? That's normally how a dash is done...

We did the right thing by Jesse and I think if these issues didn't exist and he was playing good footy and one day decided to do a Trent Croad and decide to come back I think we would be no. 1 on the list.

But the more time passes I just think this might be something that needs to be let go. The depression aside I feel the injury issues alone are just too big of a gamble and sadly for him I think his time in the game is going to be shorter than it could have been. Much love for the guy but as things currently stand it's a pass.

He had a really bad run in 2017 with his fathers death and getting cancer himself, He then had a horrible foot injury in 2018 and went home to be with family, choosing to be around his family which from the whispers I heard from friends in with the club was that he was really torn about leaving. He loved playing for the Dees and with that current squad.
When we traded him at the end of 2018 when he had a horrible foot injury (I think it was similar to Vandenbergs) we got SO MUCH for him.

I don't think the environment back in WA has actually been ideal for him to succeed. It seems like fitness staff never got ontop of his injury, rushed him in and thats why he kept not performing at the level we saw.

Imagine Hogan at FF taking the number 1 defender, leaving Weed with number 2 defender and Jackson playing on the wing or half forward to stretch their defence and chopping Max out in the ruck.

The players loved playing with him and look, I think we'd be fine without him. However if it comes up, it would be silly for the club not to consider it.

No, not one in particular - just everything that’s happened with him. I’m not confident, if he fails with Fremantle,  that returning to the environment he wanted to leave in the first place will be to his benefit.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
