Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?

If he wasn't named Harley Bennell, and we were just talking about some bloke from Freo with off field issues, injury problems and who is struggling for a game so badly that he's possibly being switched ends; there's no way this thread is going the way it is so far.

Big no from me.

Take your point.

But all reports were Bennell had moved past his off field issues.

That's where the difference is.

You're right, except we ARE talking about Jesse Hogan - the kid who won Casey's B&F at 18yo, who won the AFL Rising Star, who kicked 4 goals on Rance in a game in 2016, etc We got a fair trade for him, and i don't know where he'd fit in now, but I'd love him back in r&b if the proce was right.

That is actually a very good point, our forward line has functioned quite well at times with Weid and Jacko. With Tom back in its been equally decent and I think Tom could have a late season resurgence, he just needs to clunk some marks to get some confidence.

So with that in mind where would Jesse sit? Would he be our second forward behind Weid and Jack moves into a midfield/back up ruck role?

Team balance and whether we can utilising him to the best of his ability would definitely be a question mark.

Make up your mind mate, it's it "not just about the romanticism" or is it "relevant on several fronts" that he's a former Demon?

Those two can co-exist.

It’s about what he can produce on the field in isolation, as well as what returning to Melbourne specifically can do for him, the club and the supporters.

I won't keep banging on, don't want to hijack the thread, so I'll make this my last one.

He hasn't produced on the field for 2 season.

He was traded away with no hesitation by Melbourne so I don't understand where you're getting this welcome home vibe from (other than supporter romanticism). It's not up to Melbourne to do things for him, we're trying to be a successful footy club.

People are projecting things onto this situation that just aren't factual.

Don’t agree with your assumption that Jesse “was traded away with no hesitation” in 2018.

A description of his 2018 season from Wikipedia

In 2018, Hogan was key to Melbourne's push for its first finals campaign in 12 years.[103] However, following a loss to Sydney in round 21, Hogan was ruled out for the rest of the season with a partial stress fracture in the navicular bone in his foot.[103] At the time of his injury, Hogan was sixth on the Coleman Medal table with 47 goals.[104]

Again, I’m not just talking about supporter romanticism. For Hogan it will be familiar surrounds in terms of players, coaching staff and admin. He knows Goodwin’s methodology. That places the club in a unique position. As mentioned it would largely be about getting him into the right mental place and all those things provide him with a leg up to return to his best football. That’s parking everything else involved in terms of sentiment. To say it’s irrelevant just isn’t accurate.

Yes, he hasn’t produced anything at Freo. Hence why it’s a gamble and you’d only want to acquire him cheaply. For me, it’s a gamble worth taking. Hogan at CHF in this team is an attractive prospect. You dont see it that way. All good. Just try not to dismiss those who disagree with you as not thinking straight.

Great talent, but it looks like he doesn't really know what he wants, and whether he wants to commit to any club.

IMO it would be a great risk to take him back, but all would depend on price and list space.

And we would definitely require a full psychological assessment.

Not to mention I’m yet to hear anyone from the club give any inkling of sour grapes. Quite the opposite. There is little to suggest he wouldn’t get a warm welcome home. Should the club decide to trade for him.

No one has said there are 'sour grapes'.

The willingness of the club to trade him should tell you how keen they'd be to trade him back in though.

Your opening contribution amounted to saying that positive responses are all due to romanticism around it being Jesse Hogan. The implication being that anyone in favour of the idea is not looking at it logically. It doesn’t get much more dismissive than that.

I’d be surprised if they traded him back but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
