Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Tom Lynch Incident (incl. Dimma vs The Ox)

Someone needs to actually have a serious word to the Tigers. We've seen the stuff happening onfield with staging and punching etc, then we had Dimma's poor comments about Schwarz (particularly poor given it's the same club involved with Shane Tuck, Danny Frawley and Reece McKenzie) and now their CEO has made an appalling comment comparing Lynch's treatment to that of serial killer Ivan Milat.

Imagine being the family of one of Milat's victims and being reminded of the horror and tragedy because an [censored] CEO thought his undisciplined forward was being victimized like a murderer. Absolutely pathetic coming from someone spoken about as a potential replacement for Gil.

Read here:

“Tom plays it pretty hard and he cops a lot, he plays a physical brand of footy, but the scrutiny and the attention he’s received, it’s outrageous,” he told 3AW Sportsday.

“I can’t believe it, it’s like he’s Ivan Milat,” Gale quipped, referring to the serial killer who took the lives of seven backpackers in the early 1990s.

‘Like he’s Ivan Milat’: Tigers CEO stunned by ‘outrageous’ criticism of Tom Lynch

The way the Tuggers are carrying on is reminiscent of the likes of the Hawks and Cats when they became the league leaders. I remembered the Cats getting up in arms about people questioning the “Buddy Arc” and Chris Scott whining about people talking about Selwood and Dangermouse’s ducking.

So congrats Richmond, that’s what you’ve become. The team that is so used to getting their own way that when people question things about them they stoop to the lowest of lows.

I understand where you're coming from but Gale's reference to Milat should really be seen as a throwaway line. Would he have said that in a pre-prepared media release? I doubt it. But when speaking on radio without prepared comments I'm prepared to give anyone a bit of slack. The better question is why a successful team all of a sudden is starting to sound more like a pack of whingers when everything should be rosy and bright. I wonder whether they have some concerns about where they're headed? Perhaps they're closer to the edge of that hypothetical cliff than we realise and they know it.

I think he should be held responsible for what he says whether it's prepared or not. The bloke is the CEO of (arguably) the biggest sporting club in the country. Would have thought bringing up a serial killer is one of the first things you learn not to do when talking to the media (if they don't already realize how incredibly offensive it is).

Two tiny fines on Richmond players for staging and they're appealing.

Hilarious. Next thing they'll just lodge an appeal to be handed a premiership.

The smugness of success, jeez I wish we had this.  Basically they are the best team in the comp, they are winning so they can say/do what they want.  As much as I hate Richmond, credit to them whatever they did to change that losing culture at their club has been a massive achievement.  Could it be as simple as an ex Melbourne Coach that was footy manager at Geelong/Collingwood through their success now Footy Manager at Richmond.  Get the right person running your Footy department and thinks might happen

Bahaha what an absolute joke. That was one of the best staged landings of all time

unbelievable... seriously ?

And so like punching, the AFL condones staging. Long may it continue..

Absolutely, I seriously cannot believe it has been seen in any other way.

All Clubs should be putting in a complaint about the system in place, it is a joke, it is corrupt and is not working.

This Rubbish will happen in Finals

Are we the only club that won’t defend its players?

We did challenge both the Neal Bullen (albeit no appeal) and Langdon ones. Either we're not defending very well or the system is a farce. I know which way I'm leaning at the moment.

If I were coach I would drop him after that acting job.  A blight on the game.

Too bad Damian Hardwick is gutless.

A dive is measured by exaggeration. Did Grimes exaggerate the fall??

Yes.  But the Tribunal has gone to a new level of stupidity.  Its 'rational' beggars belief:

In the tribunal's reasons for clearing Grimes, three points were emphasised:

  • "...the vision it is noticeable that the player’s trajectory towards the ball had been altered by the propping and contact made by the Essendon player Stringer to the player's back.  It can be seen in the vision that the player's left foot digs into the turf and a tuff of grass appears indicating the player's attempt to stay on course to contest the fall of the football.
  • "At this stage the player's timing and balance has been affected by the actions of the Essendon player Stringer at a stage just prior to contesting the football whether it be to either jump to mark or spoil the football.
  • "The player raises his right hand/arm in what appears to be an attempt to spoil or distract the Essendon player number 43 even though the player was under the ball at this stage and moving forward quickly and off balance as a result of the 'nudge' afforded to him by Essendon player Stringer."

tribunal-clears-grimes-and-vlastuin-of-staging

Talk about myopic excuse making to justify the outcome they wanted.  If it was only a 'nudge' how come he took several steps after the 'contact'.  Play had continued Tippa had kicked the ball and Grimes is still diving.   He raised his arm to get a free!

It is an embarrassment that supposedly intelligent people can think let alone write such piffle!

How about - the weak maggot threw himself forward and exaggerated to whole thing by throwing his arm in the air to attract a false and soft free kick from the umpire.  No effort was made to remain in the contest or modify his trajectory once he fully committed to this cowardly act.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
