Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's taken him a while, but if today is an example of how Goody has fixed the inside 50s then watch out!

Rapt for Weid to find form, Viney's inside 50 delivery has changed massively which is a credit to him and my boy Sparrow is getting better every week.

Jeepers creepers, you reckon? I thought Viney's ball use was ordinary and he was constantly like a bee to honey at the stoppages, leaving massive gaps behind him. A better side would have made us pay.

They seemed to play him off half back or off the back of stoppages when he wasn't playing midfield. He brings good pressure, but it's so often misguided.

I think it's the right positional move potentially, but he just needs to be way smarter.

Straight kicking makes a massive difference.

Langdon's games was just awesome and good to see him kick goals.

Preuss wow you held your own and he palmed it down to our mids. Surely he stays in next week.

Ha laughing at the pies fans whinging on twitter about the umpiring.

Just leave Oliver in the centre for all centre bounces.

Darren Burgess you are a genius. How you get these players up after 4 or 5 days is genius.

Our % is good as well.

Let's get the knocks on this one out of the way early: they were two down on the bench, missing some of their absolute best, and on a two-day-shorter break than us.

But we did most of the damage in the first half, before their rotations or short break hit them. This wasn't junk time goals like the Adelaide/North wins were in some respect.

They were on top in general play for a while and we absorbed it and then hit back when we could.

Lever made three big errors but the back six, as a unit, held up well. They had more inside 50s than us.

We got Viney back into the side and managed to have all four (Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca) play well.

I thought Langdon was exceptional and got some reward for effort with his two goals. Also thought Lockhart and Hibberd were really good.

Spargo's second quarter was a nice cameo highlight. But shows that he's a better player than many give him credit for.

I'm still not sold on vandenBerg and Jones, though. But we had fewer passengers tonight and we won by 56 when the game wasn't entirely on our terms.

Win next week and this is all starting to become real.

Good summary.

We also got some favourable umpiring which made a nice change after recent weeks.

Lever, Tomlinson and Harmes (the defender experiment needs to end) were clearly our worst based in their skills, effort and decision making.

The forward line looks much better, I still want to see Smith there as another marking target.

My whipping boys Langdon and Spargo were excellent and I thought Preuss more than held his own against Grundy.

As good as Petracca was he wasn’t as sharp as he has been but still playing like a star.

Brayshaw kicking goals is the best kind of Brayshaw, looks more like the 2018 version.

Hibberd’s resurrection has been Jesus-like and Melksham didn’t make me want to throw my TV out the window for the first time in two years.

Yes, I do reckon.

He was previously rated as the single worst player in the AFL for inside 50 delivery. I didn't say he's now fantastic at it, but his delivery and decision making going forward has improved in a big way. Has been pointed out by multiple commentators this year too.

We've beaten three depleted teams in a row

Granted, we won and won well as we should have - which is better than losing

But let's wait until we replicate this a few times against better sides before we get carried away

Granted, our last 3 wins have only been against the worst 3 teams in the comp, but it beats losing.

I'm considering getting excited if we can roll the Bulldogs next week.

People who don't know this never played footy at a half decent level. The TEAM is better with him in it - end of story

One of the many plusses for the night was Puess I thought. What I loved was not that he smashed the ruck because he didn’t but he competed and took the odd mark and kicked the ball long to advantage. He showed some footy IQ which I thought he didn’t have. In the past he has mixed good stuff with bad stuff but today after a long layoff he seriously challenged Grundy I thought. Max can take an extra week if he needs it now.

Lever made three howler mistakes which stood out but was otherwise strong in his intercepting role.

Tomlinson had that one early turnover kick but otherwise wasn't noticed, which is a good thing.

Harmes is completely out of place in the backline and really out of form.

Agree re: Hibberd, has completely turned his form around from early season. Was deservedly dropped, now is back to being a top 10 contributor.

No idea why you'd want Smith in the side after that game? At any rate, they showed him on the TV sitting next to Gawn and he had his thumb wrapped up suggesting an injury maybe?

Its great to see Hibberd fighting back after the shocking loss of his brother. Gutsy.

I said a bit of this in another thread, but our team defence is the best it's been under Goodwin at any point.

It's not the same team defence that we played in 2018 either.

I thought Oliver, Langdon, May, Gus, Melksham and Petracca were our best.

Honourable mentions to Lockhart, Spargo (particularly his first half), Preuss (for competing and running out the game), Weideman, Salem and Hibberd.

We're really starting to move the ball beautifully and get that team connection happening.

Knowing that we're going to get a contest from Weideman inside 50 is massive too and despite some very poor efforts early, McDonald turned his game around in the last three quarters and started to provide a good target inside 50.

Harmes's ball use was atrocious, but if you watch the last 5 minutes of the third, he kept mopping up ground balls at half back, which was really important for ensuring we didn't get scored against and we could rebound via the likes of Hibbo.

As I've said in other posts, I thought Viney's attack on the ball all night could not be questioned, but outside of that, I think they're still trying to find a way to get him into the game without sacrificing Brayshaw's game. Playing off the back of stoppage was an interesting move and one that could be worked on. I wouldn't mind trying him as a tagger, because he was still getting in the way of our cleaner, better ball users at times.

The two biggest takeaways for me was our ball use entering forward 50 and our team defence on transition. So exciting. Langdon is an outstanding acquisition and I wouldn't be surprised to see the opposition start to put some time into him. He did what he liked tonight and not only does he help our defence and help us connect midfield to forward, he's so often the easy out handball for midfielders under pressure, because of his outstanding gut-running.

Kozzie feels close, but I reckon he might be in trouble if Hannan is fit next week. I wonder how many corrals and pressure points he built up though?

I just like Smith and feel another marking option forward (someone more agile than McDonald) is needed.

Excellent performance, a real 4 quarter effort and our pressure did not let up. Every time we were challenged we responded. Getting some silly comments from Pies fans saying we just beat their VFL side but they've been well and truly told to get stuffed. I also watched with my Pies fan dear old dad who left the room before half time!

Oliver is just off the charts at the moment and he's hunting with even more vigour if that was even possible. Brayshaw was fantastic and that was easily Langdon's best game for the club. His upside and what he brings to the table more than outweighs his lack of kicking ability. Trac started slow but really worked his way into the game and that goal was very telling is the kind of player he was become.

Back line sensational, May was everywhere again and super focused as always, even late in the game when Elliot ran around and skied it he was there to see it over the line. Lever was off but I'm confident he'll be back, I'm loving the way Hibbo goes about it right now he'd be a nightmare to play against.

Spargo was good when the game was in the balance, I know he went quiet in the second half but this period where he kicked 3 was crucial and his second efforts were amazing.

Apart from this it was a supreme team effort. Preuss more than held his own against Grundy very proud of his effort.

Was great to see we didn't have to smash the contested ball to win a game and we were all over them in uncontested ball early, the work rate to spread and get to the outside was encouraging and must be the standard.

Bring on the Dogs!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
