Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hannan out and vandenBerg still in.

Tell me the absolute lie that Goody doesn't play favourites despite form.

Who would you want in a predicted wet game, Hannan or bash and crash VDB?

In: Jamie Elliott, Scott Pendlebury, Ben Reid, Darcy Moore, Will Hoskin-Elliott

Out: Brayden Sier (quad), Jaidyn Stephenson (omitted), Jordan Roughead (concussion), Tim Broomhead (omitted), Chris Mayne (omitted)

Every chance Pendlebury and Hoskin-Elliot underdoen and other Key injuriey outs:  Howe, Treloar, DeGoey

Stephenson out is interesting...who is going to kick their goals!

We have a much better team than they have and 2 days extra rest.

Dees to win.

Called the Stephenson out earlier in the other thread, is having a shocking season and has been a liability with his inability to contest. Stephenson has kicked 3 goals in the last 6 weeks and 2 of them were from Adelaide kicking the ball straight to him.

vandenBerg last week had 6 clangers and 4 turnovers from 11 disposals. He also gave away a goal with undisciplined play for the 2nd week in a row.

Surely with Viney, Petracca, Oliver, Preuss and Sparrow in the middle we have enough "bash and crash".

Our problem for 3 years has been skill and inside 50 efficiency. Who do you reckon helps more with that out of Hannan and vandenBerg?

It's a pathetic decision by Goodwin even if you just want to look at the discipline aspect of it.

Rivers stiff

Hannan unlucky

Tough job this selection game. Solid bodies to crack in - AvB stays because everyone walks taller with him near them - a protector even if mostly in presence - Oppo guys are scared ****less with him around.

Even though Sparrow hasn't done anything wrong and is tracking along nicely, I would have left him out and kept Hannan in for team balance.

Predict us to win.

But it will come down to game plan.  Collingwood consistently beat us on the outside and spread quickly ala Port and Lions loss.  They are also good at the possession/control game in the back half ala WCE and Geelong loss.

However, I think it is like the Hawks; they have a successful game plan but I don't think they have the players to implement it.

Lets see what our coaches have learnt from the those earlier loses.

It seems as though Sparrow spends as much time forward as he does in the midfield, which will probably only increase with Viney coming back in.  Sparrow will play more in that pressure forward role, which is different to the role Hannan would play, so I can see why they have kept him in the side.  Hannan is probably more a Fritta/Melksham type player, and those two are our number 1 and 2 goal kickers this season, and they won't be dropped ahead of him.

I agree with that.  I think he will be very handy to have against the Pies as well.

Hannan has averaged 7 possies in last 3 games, all dry and no tackles in his last 2. He has kicked 1.1 in three games. Nothing in 2 games. Yes, in the wet I would have AVB.

Rivers is very slight and gets moved out of one on ones too easily. A bit of time in the gym this summer and he will be a fixture in the back 6 in 2021.
Happy with the changes. Thought they might manage Sparrow or Jones for Viney but otherwise as I thought.

Rivers is an Adonis for his age, not sure about that

Rivers stiff but Lockart is the new Jetta and has done it well so far. Rivers will be our Hibbard replacement so will have to take opportunities when they come until Hibbard is finished.  Hannon nil pressure acts or tackles last week therefore dropped. Pruess is a worry as doesnt offer much around the ground. Hppefully isnt a liability and can crash packs when the high ball comes into fwd 50.

Hannan didn't do enough to force Goodwin's hand, but I still consider him unlucky to have lost his spot when Jones (no influence since he came back) and vandenBerg (continues to make awful errors) are in the side.

Lockhart deserved to come straight back in so I'm OK with Rivers making way on that basis.

Viney replacing Hannan will make the most sense if Viney plays more forward than middle. If he plays more middle, he'll be forcing Petracca forward more and/or Brayshaw back onto a wing.

Sorry but I don't like the inclusion of Preuss. Can't play but I spose they feel the need for a ruckman.

Rivers should not have been dropped.

I am wondering why Jones, Tomlinson and Harmes continue to get a game. It is a tragedy to watch Harmes at the momment so I hope he regains some form.

Lockhart and Viney are givens to come in.

Maybe - but all those who called for young Jackson to be "managed" last week maybe they are managing Rivers.

Rivers slightly stiff, but Lockhart has been terrific so he deserves to come straight back in.

Obviously Preuss in for Jackson is no surprise, and I don't necessarily mind the omission of Hannan for Viney.  When you look at who they have named in the starting six up forward, I wouldn't have him in there for any of those, nor for someone like Spargo on the bench.

Thanks mate - saved me some typing.

The last 3 games (per game stats):

Hannan - 7.6 disposals, 0.7 tackles, 3 marks, 0.3 goals, 3 score involvements, 2 clangers, 2.6 turnovers

vandenBerg - 10 disposals, 3 tackles, 2.6 marks, 2 score involvements, 4.3 clangers, 4 turnovers

And if you wanted to include it, goals given to opposition with stupid errors:

Hannan - 0

vandenBerg - 0.7

I don't think he is helping the areas we need it, and for mine, the extra tackles a game doesn't make up for the huge clanger and turnover numbers. We all love his effort and intensity, but the bad things he does have been outweighing that, especially the last 2 weeks.

I get we may disagree on that, which is fine, but take all that out and just look at the discipline aspect. The bloke has cost us goals doing undisciplined, dumb things 2 games in a row. No player should be selected for a 3rd game after that. We see plenty of other players dropped for far less and to me it's poor culture standards if you let some players off but not others.

You can't honestly tell me you thought vandenBerg was far better than Hannan against the Roos?

Did you read the report on the Round 11 practice game this week? They seemed quite pleased with Preuss (who dominated in the hit-outs)! I am happy to give him a run and suspect that he may surprise the pundits.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
