Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How good is that!

Quote from the article:   "Geelong monster Tom Hawkins is clearly the best one-on-one mark inside 50m. From Rounds 6-11 who is the second best?  Is it Charlie Dixon? Perhaps Dustin Martin? What about Josh Kennedy?  Wrong. It is Melbourne’s Sam Weideman"

This year Weideman is averaging an elite three marks inside 50m.

Sam came back in round 6.  If that doesn't prove Wallace wrong, well...  Not marking was a big knock on him last year.  Not only is he marking, he is using his body and position well.

It will be interesting to see how the Weid goes when he crosses to Collingwood when his contract is over with Us. Eddie can’t help himself when he is commenting during Dees games how much he admires the Weid and constantly mentions his Collingwood connections..

In fact, l can’t stand listening to maguire commentaries any more because he constantly references everything during play back to Collingwood.......he is just a complete clown, and not in a good way...

Er, being born in 1997 stunted his development.

Hawkins, Josh Kennedy, J Reiwoldt, Tom lynch

They all debuted 18 or so and all took 4-5 seasons to become 2+ goal a game key forwards. Some played a lot, some didnt. What really matters is the output from here on out and since returning its bang on where its meant to be.

I agree with Wallace in that we should have persisted with Weideman more than we have but it's only at the margin - make the kid earn his spot is old school and generally well founded.

Hipwood, however, is the wrong comparison to make. His 10 minute break out against us last year and his recent game against the 'Dogs are about the only times I can remember him having much impact. He's more memorable for his man bun than what he does on field most weeks.

The standout difference between Hipwood and Weideman for me this year and much of last is that Hipwood is Brisbane's biggest Umpire

WINGER, equal to Charlie. And it's not as if they don't get a square deal. In true tradition Weidemans don't winge...and i like that.

Do you have insider info on this move in 2 years time ? Dees 2014.

All he has ever gone in public is shout  the praises of MFC despite a very difficult 5 years!

No need to follow Eddies ramblings and Think he can wave his magic wand on everything!

I hope not.  I don't rate Hipwood much at all.  I hope Jackson becomes five times the player he is.

Yes I think you are right Wise. I meant that he has similar athleticism and it was more in reference to the article. He looks more talented though and is so competitive which is the trait I like most

My view is that the FD did commit to Weideman, playing him either round 1 or early for 2018 and 2019.

In both season starts his form was not great and seemed to deteriorate. I would guess that the FD pursued until they saw him losing confidence. They then allowed him to rebuild his confidence and came good towards the end of each season.

This year they changed tack and made sure that he was consistently doin the right things before selecting him.

Kudos to the FD and Weideman

I think they've set him different KPIs and enabled him to 'achieve', which has built his confidence.

The extra pre season in the legs and in the weights room would also solidify this confidence.

And even though Petracca is playing super well now, How come it's taken 6 years to get his tank ready for the midfield? I'm sorry but it doesn't take 6 years to get someone fit. Petracca was never a forward but he was played there  for 4 years too long.

It's stuff like this that loses my confidence in the club to get things right

Except that a lot of guns have taken time to break out because they couldn't run games out in the midfield.

The great and apt comparison between Petracca is Dustin Martin. Martin didn't break out until... his 7th season. Prior to that he was solid like Petracca was the last two years (particularly last year) and then became a gun in 2016. By 2017 he was probably the best player in the game.

Not sure what you're a doctor in, but it's not a particularly clever analysis there, Doc.

I like this a lot, but I think much of the kicking and delivery to Sam has gone through the roof since he's come back into the side. That means he's leading to the right places as well, but Geelong also have great delivery inside their forward 50.

This is a fascinating stat nonetheless. Keep going, Sammy.

We should of played him earlier this year

Anyway can't do much about the past and really enjoying what I'm seeing from him last few weeks (although the opposition hasn't been much in North and Crom) with crashing the pack and just competing at everything

That's all he has to do.

Oh, and perhaps try and fix his kicking from time to time lol

The comparison to Hipwood is laughable. Wallace is doing the Wallace thing and just reacting to whatever happens to be hot that week.  Hipwood just played one of his regulation two outstanding games for the season.  Look back, it's like clockwork - two huge games a year and then maybe two more 'pretty good' games and a bunch of flashy meh. It will be interesting to see if he gets a second big one in the 2020 shortened fixture.

1/3rd of Hipwood's goals in 2020 were on Saturday and Weideman still has him beaten for goals per game, among a host of other stats. If we made the comparison on Friday Hipwood would look like nothing worth mentioning.

I'm perfectly comfortable with the club's decision to focus on priming Weideman to be consistently outstanding as a true key forward, rather than letting him amble along without responsibility and ending up a perpetual third tall or some kind of utility - which is where Watts becomes relevant to the discussion.

I think it very much relates to Petracca in the sense that the club has really pushed them to be the very best version of himself and not become complacent with just being very good.

No l don’t pretend to have any inside info. I was more “tongue in cheek” trying to illustrate the arrogance of Eddie and his Magpie born to rule bully-boys.  I really hope the Weid is a 10 year + player for us particularly now that Jacko has arrived which could develop into one of the great forward duos.  It is really the last piece of the jigsaw in place for a great side, which will be better than anything the Woods could offer.

Terry must be running out of topics to talk about. He came from Hawthorn who pride themselves on not gifting players games and as late as this week Clarkson stated he doesn't like playing young undersized guys as they need a stronger body and bigger guys around them. Then there is Wallace the coach who at the doggies didn't have anyone over 6 footy tall which took them years to correct. He also forgets it took Hawkins 4 to 5 seasons before he had his breakout season. Key position forward is a tough gig and they take time Weid has had lots of injuries and is only now growing into his body.

Sorry terry you dropped the ball on this one

For me the biggest thing that stunted Weids development was using him as our second ruckman, that’s been the beauty of recruiting Jackson and him being able to make an impact (a lot earlier than expected to be honest). Sam being our key forward has simplified his role and given him confidence.

I wanted him in earlier, particularly when TMac was doing sweet FA, but Goodwin was adamant that he wasn’t showing enough in the scratch matches. Impossible to know these things for sure in hindsight, but Sam’s in now and for the time being I can see him going anywhere. Just needs to work on his set shots.

Wallace has a fair bit to say about Melbourne.

I preferred it when he was on diet of soup and silence courtesy of Rodney Grinter.

He was actually averaging more marks and more contested marks in both 2018 and 2019 than he is this year. In terms of stats, goals is the only thing he's improved on this year. Everything else has gone backwards, though understandable as he's not up around the ball as much playing FF now.

Just goes to show he was already capable in years gone by, he just wasn't given a consistent role up forward to play to his strengths and the teams strengths. He was clunking more marks the past two years. We stuffed up his development, but thankfully have corrected the trajectory now.

That's just not true.

In 2020, he is averaging 4.0 marks (1.8 contested, 3.0 inside 50), 2 goals, 1.2 behinds, 5 score involvements, 8 disposals.

Factor that for only 80% game time and is the equivalent of 5 marks (2.25 contested, 3.75 inside 50), 2.5 goals, 1.5 behinds, 6.25 SIs and 10 disposals.

2019 was 4.2 marks (1.5 contested, 1.5 i50), 1 goal,  0.7 behinds, 4 SIs, 10.2 disposals.

2018 was 4 marks (1.8 contested, 1.2 i50), 1 goal,  0.5 behinds, 4.2 score s and 11.5 disposals.

He hasn't gone backwards at all, he is taking more marks and kicking more goals per minute of game than previous.

There is nothing to support your "stuffed up" comments, except for your feel.  My comment about learning from the ruck is pure conjector. I have no idea if it's true, but it has more basis in reality than your unsupported claim.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
