Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Dunn not done

Yes very talented but lazy. Like Gysberts. Very disappointing. 2004 draft was poor.  Top 4-5 blokes were very good but then it is a bust for many.  Only about 7-8 guys ended up playing 150+ games. Dunn was probably one of the better selections.

Is my memory fading?  Seem to recall both Dunn & Bate were taken as under-age recruits under some special arrangement.  Anyone else got a memory that's working better than mine?

gee I suppose at a stretch you could describe Howe as a great defender although i dont see it that way .But Dunn ? His is biggest achievement with us was getting his contract extended.Always  completely at sea against an opponent who was strong overhead .Be very surprised if he plays Saturday night.

I think they were both bottom age, but not under-age per se. The only under-age recruit I can recall us taking was Hogan.

Always think of his torps fondly

There was a ripper on the Anzac Day eve game vs Richmond in the rain (2015?), City End. Just about hit the centre circle. I wondered before that kick why he was intently checking the ball pressure. Worth getting wet to watch.

I remember a big barrel of a goal he kicked from outside 50 playing as a forward against Brisbane at the Gabba one year and nearly put us on the path to a come from behind win.  Possibly back in the Wonaeamirri era as I seem to recall him turning it on that day as well.

I've never heard this about Bate before, and the only place I've seen it said about Gysberts has been on Demonland. Is there any empirical evidence that either was lazy or is each just an urban myth repeated endlessly (in the case of Gysberts) on Demonland?

Both started forward and showed some promise in 2006.
Bate in particular looked like he could be a player similar to Adelaide's Tom Lynch; mobile, tall half-forward.
Never really kicked on.

Bailey then tried to fashion Dunn into a big bodied tagger, like Cameron Ling.
It was Neeld then Roos that moved him to full back.
He started to play some good footy there when Frawley moved forward in '14, but again, didn't develop.

Dunn's a great survivor and, by my count is one of only three players remaining from the 2004 drafts (national, pre-season and rookie).
The other two being Franklyn and Eddie Betts.

Dear Lynden,

I know it’s your first game back in a while but if you could do us a small favour and if McHenry so much sneezes at Grundy please hip and shoulder him into oblivion as we missed our chance.
It would be appreciated.

LOL The Tiger King look, but like others, have a soft spot for his torps. I know he could be annoying but compared to the bruise free footy we were playing in the dark years I at least felt like he was trying.

Like you, I never really liked Dunn when he was here.

Faux aggression, inconsistency, and a tendency to only play well in contract years.

He's taken swipes at the club since then: might indicate his true feelings towards us, but I don't rate that sort of behaviour all the same.

In response to those who suggest we made a mistake by trading him: you're wrong IMO. He was not fulfilling any sort of potential here. Plenty of players need a change of scenery to get the most out of themselves and Dunn was one of them.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on Dunn. Rag-dolling Boomer Harvey does not make you tough. Especially from a player who had a finely tuned sense of hearing with regard to footsteps.

Haven't heard him slag the club but I have read him saying how much he loves being at the 'Pies.

He probably deserves 200 on persistence alone but the 'Pies missing finals is a much greater good.

I reckon one the main reasons he got the flick from us was because Garlo had a year on his contract & Dunny didn't. We didn't have room for both

I think what was coming to mind was him reacting to beating us in Round 23 2017 to stop us making finals.

Was it Howe, rather than Dunn, who had a crack about playing in front of empty stadiums or something like that?

I'll never forget when he was playing for Collingwood and got carried off the ground. All the Melbourne supporters genuinely cheered him off. Wouldn't of happens the other way around.

Listening to Dunn in a post match interview he speciffically acknowledged the support from Melbourne supporters for his efforts making his come back.  Not often that players would acknowledge the ex club and least still supporters of their ex club like that.  I think it says something of the genuineness of the bloke and the way he is regarded.

I don't expect him to get that oppertunity.  Apparently they are more or less just bringing him into the side to allow them to manage Moore and some other back of theirs.

Roughhead has concussion I would play Dunny ahead of Roughhead anyway. Roughhead is a spud.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
