Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I suspect goody really values Lockart's ferocity and  i reckon he is a lock to come back in. You might be right Rivers could go out. Which would be shame for him. Love that he carries the ball forward and takes aggressive options with his kicks. Confident player who looks a real player.

But they are coming off a four day break, whereas we have had six days and i'm sure Goody will look to press home that advantage look to physically smash them. So happy for riv to take break and come back in soon.

As you mentioned in previous post it absolutely should be Harmes coming out of the side for Lockart. They've tried him as a rebounding half back and it just hasn't work. His form has been way off for weeks. He looks lost at time and hasn't been effective at all. I would love to see Rivers stay in to move up into Harmes' position with his attack and ball use across half back. Leave Lockart to play deeper back against their best small forward.

I can see Rivers getting a rest also as you say but he only just came back in and it seems Goody is giving the rookies a couple of weeks at a time before resting ala Kozzy.

This is exactly the sort of game that we have historically given a limp showing after a couple of good performances. It’s incredible to think that we see Jackson as a big out already, but he is clearly something special. As well as his ability, he has a real boundless enthusiasm for the game - a bit like Clarry, Petracca, Viney, Pickett etc. which I don’t see in the likes of TMac, Melksham etc. Hopefully his out doesn’t change the positive dynamics of the team.

We're 4 wins 2 losses with Jackson in the side and those loses were top 4 sides (one of which we totally fell apart as a team).

Not for a second saying he's the difference but he has brought that extra energy to the side you mention above. As Goody has noted post games he gives us great structure in being a good forward target and adequate ruckman already. His height and athletisism make him a real problem for opposition across the ground. I've loved his repeat efforts and the way he covers ground with pace. He impacts contests whether in the air or on on ground level. Adelaide was obviously his best game but I thought he was great against North even though he didn't impact statistically. Most of his possessions were clean and provided a great contest across the ground.

It really sucks that its a hamstring tendon. I was hoping for a light strain. As Burgo mentioned he will be lucky to be back with 6 weeks. They will be extra cautious with a young guy with this much potential suffering a soft tissue injury so early. We will miss that energy.

So it wasnt a bad dream, we really have lost LJ to a bad hammy.    Impossible to replace his athleticism/size/unpredictability.   What a blow.  Put him on the shelf so hes 100% ready for preseason.

The show must go on and the good news is the holy trinity of Tracca/Oliver/Brsyshaw are ready to take over the league.  Thats where we will win games.

You need to think more positively. Forget the preseason...have him ready for the 2020 Grand Final!

Yes but if theyre saying its a hamstring tendon injury I think 6 weeks is a pipe dream.  Just look at anyone whos had a similar injury and how long theyve missed.

Perhaps its very minor but its still a delicate injury and hes a teenager and possibly our greatest asset all things considered.

at times like this I wish the AFL added an extra interchange option instead of having shorter games. Would be easier to bring in Preuss that way.

Have enough pinch-hitting options though, curious to see who we go with

On the positive note, this highlights how good Jackson has been. A month ago we were thinking he is too raw to even get a game and now he is a massive loss.
imagine him in 2-3 years with some size on him!

Jackson is a pure competitor. You can see that is how he is built. I think it may be his greatest trait as a player

plus his mental attributes of being intense but controlled so he doesn't go OTT, also his mobility and coordination are very good. The full package really.

Jackson game time mgt wasn’t great either was Gawn... Gawn should have been rested vs the crows & then Jackson rested the North game, 4 day breaks, 1st year player etc Everyone will say hindsight is great but reckon hasn’t been managed well eg pies rested a number of players against the crows...

Jackson's second efforts and ability to stay in the contest were a delight to watch. Lockhart doesn't come back until he is fully fit, ditto Gawn. I thought TMac was ok for us last week so he stays in a forward role. I am not convinced Tomlinson is a back but he is a utility option for us.  I would get Harmes to tag as it builds his confidence, often when he has been in that role he bobs up for great goal. Pruess take your shot! The question is who comes out for Bennell, who gives us more foot skill and class going forward.

Can you give the stats for Jackson's time management. Just so I can cross reference it with the standard form for 1st year players, that is sent out to all AFL clubs and their supporters.

Everyone's wise in retrospect @Hogan2014.

Will be interesting to see if Bennell comes in.  He was poor against Adelaide besides that great goal.

He will have had 9 or 10 days rest though so he could be cherry ripe.

Exactly. A lot of teams with a heap more injuries than us.

He's an 18 year old rucking in a compressed season. Unfortunately this type of thing happens.

Just have to make sure he gets his rehab right and give himself a shot at playing finals should we make it.

Would rather Jack play mostly forward and share that role with Sparrow.  Adams is good but not worthy of a hard lock at this stage if that is what you were suggesting GT.  Harmes to the Bottom is a must imv.

I don't think the Pies will risk Pendles in this one unless he's cherry ripe.

head to head and accountable but no hard lock

Meanwhile they’ll get Pendlebury, Elliott, Hoskin-Elliott, Moore and Reid back.

Any idea how many more weeks he’s likely to miss with the knee?

I think it’s a good choice to rest him this week. Don’t mess with knees, especially for a player with so many serious knee injuries under his belt.
I rather he misses 3 weeks than 12 months.

Not a super reliable source, but have been told Pendles won't play.

Edit - Literally as I was typing that the same person told me the Pies will likely risk him this week. (Sorry)

The problem they have with picking Pendlebury is that he might be a bit underdone coming back early from injury. The same could apply with Hoskin-Elliot. They’re also coming off a 4 day break so they need every player at the top of his game.

Ths weather could also play a big part with an expected wet track and strong winds.

We're stuffed then. We're hopeless in the wet.

Nah sorry, no idea. It felt like he was not too far off going by what Goodwin said during the week so fingers crossed he may be back for the next game, but that's just a guess.

Nothing about Jackson on the MFC website, 3 hours after Brown announced in the media. Sometimes we get treated like junior clerks.

Seriously you need to get over this. There is a whole heap of reasons why

It may surprise you to know we are not the most important people at the football club that neeeds to know this stuff in the 5 mins after it happens.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
