Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Exactly right. That was like facing a bowling machine at 70mph dishing up half volleys...you're bound to look good. Two '8 point' games coming up with teams around us. We'll be judged on those games not these soft kills. That said, some good form coming in is always welcomed.

I know Viney has been one of our best this year, but Brayshaw offers so much more in the middle. He is really damaging with his disposal where Viney just seems to gain territory without actually generating any scoring opportunities.

What to do with Viney?

I see a solution, drop Harmes and keep one of Spargo, Sparrow, Hannan or Rivers consistently in the side and rotate Brayshaw and Viney through the middle with Trac and Oliver. Harmes has been incredibly poor and ill disciplined for basicalyl the entire season. Viney has been brilliant, shouldn't be a question over his spot.

It's a strange feeling, being comfortable that we're not going to fold in the last quarter.

I could get used to it.

So could my nerves and Im saving a fortune in Bourban come to think of it.

We look so much better without Viney and Gawn in the middle. People will disagree, but it's so much harder to stop three mids, than just curve one dominant ruckman.

Gawn's too good to leave out, so if he's fit, he should come back. But I reckon we need to do a lot more of what North did tonight and that is mix up our rucking.

If Viney is going to play again, he needs to play pressure forward.

Oliver, Gus and Petracca were brilliant as a combo and were able to defend and attack in equal measure. Oliver is an out and out star, and that ability to accelerate out of the contest is absolutely elite. Actually really liking the combo of Oliver, Gus, Petracca and Jackson. Super mobile, all have a great understanding between each other and are able to win the ball in tight and get it out on the outside. Love that we started targeting Petracca 1 out a bit, and Trac's body use is starting to really show. He's got a Martin-like ceiling. Keep going, mate.

Goodwin naming Melksham as captain is pretty rich and shows a clear bias IMV. Melksham in 2018 was super important for our midfield-forward connection, but we now function without him touching it equally well. Tonight he didn't really get near it enough, nor did he bring enough forward pressure IMO. So he'll predictably stay in, but he needs to show a lot more intensity and hardness across half forward.

Really liked Rivers' game. Thought Sparrow brought very little and looked lost. Jackson continues to excite. His ability to compete in the air and excel when the ball hits the ground is really promising. Spargo showed why I think he'll make it. He gets involved and is tidy and efficient with his disposal, usually connecting really well with the mids and the deeper forwards.

Weideman should have had a night out. He must improve his kicking. He'll know that. He wasn't alone though, but he is the focal point and if he continually misses, he's not converting our hard work up the ground. I still want him to be consistently stronger in the contest, but he's starting to bring the ball to the ground most times, which is a big tick. I just want to see him clunk those big contested marks that he gets to, but grasses, and then convert those easy chances.

Jones struggled, but there will still be those that champion his inclusion and disposal, and hardness and whatever else they allege he brings, but we can't carry him.

We need to play proper wingers against Collingwood or they'll cut us up on the outside, so I hope we go with Tomlinson and Langdon on the wings. Langdon's run was again important all night. He's always there on the outside when one of our mids is in trouble. It's becoming second nature that the likes of Oliver looks for him too.

Lever's game was excellent. One mistake early on gifted North a goal, otherwise he was always spot on, even when May was caught out of position a few times, Lever's cover was great. I agree with some. That was probably his most dominant game for the club.

We'll need to be a lot better if we're going to beat Collingwood or anyone of note really, but a win's a win and it was a good percentage boost.

Yep. To be honest it’s hard to get excited about the win. Jackson makes me excited tho. Will be a player.
Pickett has to learn his role. Flies for too many marks.

Sorry, but Viney has done it well against the good teams.  He goes back in.

We played a terrible listless team tonight, it needs to be factored in.

North had no bench for most of the last quarter, however very pleasing to see the boys attack the last quarter full of running. Darren Burgess is such a vital cog in this and hopefully maintaining the list through for the remainder of the home and away.

We losts the clearences and got decimated in the hitouts... we are getting way too excited here over beating a team that nearly turned it over more than Adelaide did.

I really don't see how Gawn or Viney not staying in the midfield makes us better. I think we just need to be smarter with the overall balance in the team. Do we need Vanders, Harmes(clearly way out of form) and Jones in the side? 3 guys who wants to be in the thick off it when Viney is better than all 3 of them and we could do with some more outside run and better ball users being brought in. Now if that comes from within or from trade/draft that's another story.

Mick Malthouse said today that we have another 'wasted season' on our hands.

Stick that where the sun don't shine, Mick.

Took us a quarter to settle, and to kick straight, but we smashed them off the park.  Disposal count etc doesn't interest me, as we controlled the game easily tonight.  We moved it better, we worked harder and we made it count.

The inclusions all had a positive impact tonight, starting with Spargo.  Pickett was great, Tom did his job and Rivers showed some good signs down back.

On that, our back line was sublime once again.  Larkey kicked a few but no one else really looked like getting near it.

Our season is well and truly alive at 5-5 and a healthy percentage to boot.

Bring on the filth on Saturday for the real test!

This call is just as early as Malthouse's. We're still not in the 8 and we're 5-5. Let's see how the rest plays out.

Brayshaw dominates (again) when played as a mid. They cannot play him elsewhere.

In another group I said Spargo is like having an empty tin can out there since his first year. Back to the chasing and hard running.

Well done to the tin can, there’s some fuel in there.

Fraud or a troll? Take your pick.

I love hopping on here after a win.  Lots of good vibes around to make a victory feel a little sweeter.

I can't imagine what it is like for those who only pop in after a loss.  I'm glad I'm not them.

Despite copping it from the demonlanders (myself included), T'mac and spargo both keep there spots for next week i reckon.

They were both really good tonight, hats off to them, t'mac tackled hard presented well and kicked a goal to top it off. Spargo was very clean with his disposal and provided great pressure.

Petracca and Oliver superb and Angus is really starting to get back to it.

Next week will be a serious test. Up the mighty demons!!!

Perhaps you could rename yourself Sparlie Chargo in honour of the wee man?

Speaking of Dom - shame he wasn't playing tonight

Another strong finish by the boys. % could be the make or break come finals time considering the snake and ladders that is 2020.

I hope Weeds continues the upward curve, along with Tracca.

There needs to be some sort of investigation about the umpiring though. Bloody horrible.

TMAC Shouldn't be playing?

Clarry CAN'T KICK!

Lever is overrated?

Have a good rethink about knocking all of the above. There is plenty of upside and just starting to find their mojo.

Any comments from Dive Bomber Lloyd?

Cracking performance. Only the most churlish supporter could find anything negative about that (ok, perhaps the poor conversion).

Not sure whether we had a player who didn’t win their position. Thought Spargo was fantastic - especially leaving his man and bursting through the line in the third quarter for the long handball. Challenge for him is to back it up. Luke Jackson could legitimately be the best player in the competition in 5 years.

I’ve maintained all along that our form line is not that bad - 5 losses (2 by less than a goal) all against top 6 sides. Pretty good really. We’re beating the sides we’re supposed to.Having said that, it was a performance against a dispirited and depleted outfit. Let’s see that level maintained against the Pies and I’ll be happy

Which is a welcome change.  Now to beat some top sides.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
