Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

GAMEDAY: Rd 11 vs North Melbourne

Entire footy world will be expecting North to win this. “No Max No Melbourne”.

I’m trying to find upsides and the main one I can see is Viney being out should mean Brayshaw on ball for majority of the game.

Not having Max and Jack gives them an ‘excuse’, but the game will certainly tell us a fair bit about the team for 2019.  Drop this and we are the rabble most here suggest we are.  Win it and we are anything from middle of the road to late bloomers.

Glad we are not playing in Hobart, we seem to suck the big ones down there.  At least we have shown a liking for Adelaide oval.

Reckon we will be in a tough game for 2 1/2 quarters, then ease away to 36 point win.

Thats a good point i hadn't considered (mind you ive been busy with little ones and haven't had a chance to think about footy yet).

With on of the clang brothers out it will be interesting to see how our midfield mix goes with Brayshaw and potentially Harmes getting more time in their preferred positions.

I just don't think Preuss has had enough match practice. In fact he well have had none this year?

And he was coming back from a fair break from injury so i wonder about his fitness.

After Tommy's last effort i'm wondering about his Bin...

3 effective disposals @ 43% (30% off AFL average), 2 Contested marks (1 inside 50), two 1%ers, 1 tackle in four quarters, 2 score involvements, 2 turnovers, 0 intercepts and 0 goals at 91% game time.

Will need to be a miraculous turnaround.

I still reckon '...Brayshaw on ball for the majority of the game' is not only likely but also, highly desirable on many fronts. To me, Gus is all class once he has had a feel for the game and is in his correct place onfield.

TMac could still be missing from the squad - injury flare-up is a terrible thing - and a surprise. It is as bad as memory loss.

I hope Harmesy gets a Midfield tagging role today

He excels at that

Excellent point Wyl ... you have to wonder why we'd ever set players for roles away from what they're best suited for.  I can understand such moves if they were entirely necessary but those types of moves are often unnecessary.

To be fair,  a few moves have benefitted the team such as T-Mac to the forward line but lets face it,  his role as a defender was questionable anyway.

Petracca on a forward flank?  Harmes on a back flank?  Brayshaw on a wing?  Would have better to rotate the 4 onballers whilst using Viney up forward.  So off to the bench for 1 of the aforementioned 4 and/or occasional stints for 1 of the 4 as a high half forward.

And you don't want your best players on the bench for extended periods of time such as what we've done with Brayshaw and (sometimes) Harmes.

For the record,  for team balance,  I would have played Viney as a forward pocket from 2018 onwards.  As valuable as he's often been when playing on the ball that decision ends up effecting team balance.

I’m keeping an eye on our mid sized forwards today. All of Melksham, Fritsch and Hannan are averaging below 10 touches a game. All are dangerous but we can’t carry 3 low possession players like that in a forward line that already has 2 talls and a genuine small (Pickett).

I don't think Max will be missed in the rucking contests cos he rarely taps to advantage. Or if he does, the mids turn it over  His replacement needs to try to nullify Goldstein to some extent.

The main downside will be the absence of his marking, particularly on the backline and as a target for kickouts

Absolutely agree.

Gawn bails us out with his defensive 50 marks. Will miss that more than his actual tap work.

Conversly, Goldstein’s ruckwork won’t be the deciding factor in them winning the game. It’s his around the ground influence and his goal kicking ability.

I believe that with the  thug Cunnington out  their best midfielder  and best sniper that will disadvantage them  as Norf's protector.

Brown although hasn't been at his best  was always dangerous and has kicked multiple goals against us in recent times.

Ziebell their captain  leads them well. and he is one of the 3 most important not playing for them today.

We have our outs and that is what it is however the guys know how important this game becomes. I have faith.

To me Simon is always over complicating his situation

Play your soldiers in their best positions

God knows where TMac and Jones will play today. Both of them have no pace

How many time’s will we kick the ball out after a behind and kick it straight to Goldstein? 7.

GWS have a great exit strategy which they use occasionally.

Small skilful player kicks short straight to a player twenty metres out then runs past receiving player from whom he takes a handball and then attack the corridor

Does anyone recall the names of the 3 umpires that destroyed us last week?

I do. They are the exact same 3 umpires we have today. I don't think I've ever seen that before. So essentially AFL house was pleased with their efforts last week, so it's only going to be far, far worse this week.

We don't stand a chance in this game, and it's got nothing to do with our skills or effort, or even gameplan.

Melbourne loves an 'excuse' not to turn up but maybe the history against this club will bring back enough memories to want to smash them.

Higgins always kills us. Averages 20 possessions and a more than a goal against Melbourne. Smart strong player

Optimistic. Confident the footy world doesn’t care about either teams...

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
