Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Adelaide Oval?

Traeger Park?

We struggled at Metricon vs the Dogs. Not sure of its dimensions but if it's wide, we probably won't want to play there if there are narrower grounds available.

This is a brilliant idea if crowds in Brisbane are limited. Good call TU. Low humidity and conditons if at night.

We don't always have the best support in the NT with crowds often seeming to lean towards Adelaide and others, but I hope that if we nominate an Alice Springs final, that the whole state gets in behind us.

I actually hope we do too. Its probably the only time Alice will ever see an AFL final,  it would be an amazing gesture.

Might not be available because it doesn't have goal line video technology. Of course, it could be added.

In all seriousness, given the AFL's need to cut costs, I can't see a final being played in the Alice because of the associated travel costs and the lower ground capacity.

Has the AFL actually said clubs get to choose where they will play a 'home' final?   Seems unlikely to me given all the other constraints.

iirc the AFL were considering nominating several grounds from which the 'Home' club can choose.

The ones I recall being mentioned are Gabba, Adelaide Oval and Optus Stadium which cover the teams likely to be in the Top 4 and play later finals.

Gabba is a no-brainer.  Adelaide Oval works because the government is allowing AFL teams in on a FIFO bases or stay over (as we did for the Adel/North games).  The stickler as always is Optus if the WA gov't keeps up its full 14 day quarantine rules.  McGowan wants games at Optus but doesn't seem prepared to be flexible.

Whether the AFL will be flexible enough to let two teams in the bottom 8 of the ladder and based in SE Qld go to Adelaide Oval or Optus is debatable given the $ cost.

There seems to be a push to have all finals return to the traditional full quarters ie 20 min+ time on.

There doesn't seem to be a good reason not to as their won't be a condensed schedule and minimal travel.

I'm certainly for it and think it works in our favour (if we make it) as we are quite fit.  I haven't seen any of our players put hands on knees or crouch down looking tired at the end of a game this year.

I've been to quite a number of Darwin games over the years and we're always outnumbered by opposition supporters (even against Fremantle wtf?) Playing up here was a clear cash-grab rather than an area for growth: more than half of the (small) population (with limited international immigration, especially as to target markets) comes from down south or from the west and brought their teams with them, while much of the local indigenous population has connections to two or three clubs in particular (I might be little off base here, but my father managed a sports club with the Rioli and Long clans as prominent members). But my perception of Alice is that our support is pretty strong outside of the Adelaide-based teams.

So, if it pans out like this, as the higher ranked team we'll host our first final at the MCG, right?

There is a step-by-step protocol in place but I can't recall exactly what it is. I think there's a coin-flip involved at the end. But head-to-head and alphabetical we're good on.

Rules changing on the fly again? What else is new. What other sport in the world plays the whole season with 20% less game time then completely moves the 'goal posts' again come finals time? Another example of something from the AFL that is fundamentally flawed.

Interesting question. From Reddit

As we beat the Saints we end up on top (I assume there is another rule that says % is only taken to two decimal places.)

(iv) Where two or more Clubs at the completion of the Home and Away Matches have accumulated the same Premiership Points and have the same percentage, the following procedure shall apply:
(A) the position of the tied Clubs shall be adjusted by accumulating the Premiership Points awarded to the relevant Clubs as a result of the Home and Away Matches played between them and placing the Club with the highest accumulated Premiership Points, first as between them;
(B) where the Premiership Points accumulated by the relevant Clubs remain equal, the position of the tied Clubs shall be adjusted by calculating each such Club’s percentage based on the proportion of points scored for and against each such Club from the Home and Away Matches between them and placing the Club with the highest percentage, first as between them; and
(C) where two or more Clubs still remain tied, the position of the Clubs shall be adjusted by lot conducted and drawn by the General Manager - Football Operations so that any Club drawn ahead of any other Club shall be placed ahead of such other Club or Clubs

Important for us to keep winning and try to finish as high as possible (likely 6th or 7th). By finishing 8th, as it stands we'll cop WCE - possibly in Perth?...and we know how well that ended up last time. Finishing 6th or 7th and playing who that does looks a lot softer than finishing 8th and getting the worst of either Richmond/Geelong/Brisbane/WCE.

If by chance we were to get a "home" final I would love it to be played in Alice Springs. I get that we don't always have the larger supporter base there but imagine us sending a final their way, surely they would really love us for that and it would be down to our marketing team to get the word out there to show support for us.

Otherwise I would like us to choose Adelaide Oval, we just really seem to play it well.

Perhaps we could spin it as a thank you to the Alice for saving "our" season.

How's that home final looking??.... Have we locked in a venue yet?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
