Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yes, and after this clip over the head, Derm and Kingy were very jovial about him ‘wearing one’, after spending half time talking about having to protect the head. How contradictory!

They also had no reaction to the instance when May was bumped heavily in the head while picking up the ball and no free kick was awarded. Apparently that sort of attack on the head is fine with Kingy and Derm. I found the narrative repulsive last night on Fox. There are too many commentators on that channel with a clear hatred of the MFC

We felt your pain KITP we enjoyed the game more with the sound turned right down, until the last Qtr at least, just to much dribble.!!!!

It's been a horrible tradition with our club for those in charge to stay quiet about these sort of things for years.

I'm really happy to see the coach call it out. Even if nothing changes, it must make the likes of Max, Clarry etc feel a bit better that their coach is calling it out.

It would p##s me off if I was a player to hear most other clubs / coaches raise these things but not ours.

We no longer need to be a club of polite people.

Hope he does it more often.

We could make an argument that he is missing this week due to the Adelaide players behavior. It’s just a dog act that doesn’t need to be done. Make a statement and suspend the players involved. We all know the afl won’t have the guts to do it.

In one of them (I think the last one shown in that video) the ball is 80 metres away, but there’s an umpire 10 meters from the incident and he does nothing.

Theres no way the club didn’t make that video and leak it.

I’m glad they did.

And pretty damning vision of the umpires looking straight at the last incident shown in particular and ignoring it when 100m off the ball...

Amazing Max hasn’t decked an opponent yet. Just shows his professionalism putting up with utter garbage like that. It’s been happening for the last few years. Players instructed to go at him.

Remember Steele giving Max one in the kidneys in 2018 on his way to contesting a boundary throw in just to mention one example.

I agree, amazing self control by Max. I would have belted the little sh*t

I love Max but is he playing 'too nice'?  It looks like he just takes it.  Maybe he should get into a scuffle every now and them.  Even if he gives away a free, I feel he needs to get more physical and let the ops know it isn't on.  Or cause a melee, wear a few fines.

The umpires won't protect him so Max and his teammates have to do it.  In the video only once did a player (good on you Jonesy) stand up for Max.  Even JV7 didn't remonstrate when a player ran 100 meters away from the ball to crash into Max.  No-one remonstrated with Lynch or Walker when they hit Max in the upper back and back of the head.

Players in Max's vicinity need to help him to stop 'faux tough guy-has beens' like Walker and first year pipsqueaks like McHenry targetting him.

Max, time to get physical!  Stop them pushing you around.

Yeah spot on LH,

He plays like a big friendly giant & opos continue to target him because of this. They know he dosen't remonstrate, so they'll carry on - until Max shows them otherwise.

It's a tough one because its just not in the big fellas nature. The boys need to have his back!

As an extension to this, i would say 97% of our team play like this - Viney, May & AVB the exceptions.

Cerca 2018 elimination final V Geelong. Just look how hard we attacked the cats. It was actually intimidating.

You either have it or you don't. The majority of our boys aren't built that way.

Because we are not one of the AFL's VIC love children.  The AFL clearly treat some clubs (and players within those clubs) differently to others.  As evidenced by (just a few examples there's plenty of others over the decades)...

? The club raising this with the AFL apparently on a number of occasions but zero response / protection on the field prior the match against the Crows

? Zero response to multiple incidents (mostly by the same player) towards Max against the Crows, even when they were clearly in plain sight of the umpires on at least one or more occasion and even when many were a country mile off the ball.

? Burgoyne laying exactly the same tackle as Nibbler but gets off vs Nibbler 4 weeks.

Bartlett needs to take this vision and keep hammering Gil till he gets an appropriate response, on the field.

Dude sprints across the ground 100 metres away from the ball to lay a bump WTF, no wonder they have no wins.

That was the striking thing about that video.  Clearly under direction by the coach.  How can the umps allow that. I hope the club released the video.

I'll make a few points.

1. Ned McHenry is nothing but a gutless coward. Learn to get a kick first you fat little potato. Hope your career is riddled with injuries and your out of the system quick smart. Harsh? Nah [censored] the little turd.

2. Where was our players looking out for Max? We allowed [censored] like McHenry and Walker to crash into Gawn and yet no one reacted to it. Is Vandenberg supposedly in the side to crash and bash and protect his his teammate? After giving away that free kick i wanted him right amongst it looking after Gawn. Not just Vandenberg but everyone else. We seriously sick when it comes to looking out for our teammates

3. Max, love you more then anything. But geez wouldn't hurt to get some angry pills in you and actually give it back to blokes like McHenry and Walker. I remember watching Braydon Pruess last year play angry in his first game against the swans. I look at Shane Mumford and he too is someone who just doesn't take a backward step and hurts blokes for a living. Time to get angry Max because time and time again this precedent has been set since the port Adelaide game and nothing has been done since.

Great restraint shown by Max. Appalled that the umpires weren't on this this and/or didn't react. If this keeps going then maybe we need to select an enforcer in the side. To take an analogy from Rugby Union, even the normally calm and considered John Eales once said to a referee mid-test (re continuous opposition dirty play) "Either YOU fix this or WE will".

Eddie, Derm and King spent several minutes during our game against the Crows discussing how the AFL are supposedly red hot on getting the cheap shots out of the game. Eddie said he had personally attended meetings with Steve Hocking where it had been discussed and that the umpires paying free kicks for off the ball infringements will sort it out quick smart.

I will be very interested to see if the footage of Max being accosted results in some protection off the ball, especially as North have form for playing the man, especially against us.

It wasn't just Gawn, it seemed Adelaide had already decided to be "tough guys" and were trying to pick fights and niggle straight away.

More obvious with Gawn tho.

I have a bit of sympathy for McHenry as the footage shows this wasn't in play he was running to Gawn from fifty metres away. That means he was told to do it, which I think is worse.

Sympathy? Your kidding right? He's half the reason why Gawn isn't playing. Whether he was told or not its a gutless thing to do. He was more focused in crashing into Gawn then getting a kick.

Hope karma hits him really hard in the coming weeks.

In all honesty, if they went back and forensically examined every game Gawn has played this year they'd find the same thing.  Brisbane did it, Port Adelaide were even worse because they were actually physically restraining Max in marking contests (Westhoff in particular).  Gawn is a bloody marvel and we are so lucky that he plays for us.

I said "a bit" :)

I'm annoyed that people higher up than a guy in his first few seasons instructed him to do it and aren't copping it as well.

Been happening all year to poor Maxy. AFL HQ are a complete joke, they beat their chests about trying to protect the heads of players', yet the same level of protection to prevent injuries (ala the treatment of Max being continually hit off the ball) ignorantly goes unnoticed.

Goody has said that they've brought it up with the AFL numerous times now, yet nothing has been done. Good on the MFC for taking this issue public, coz along with the footage, it will force the AFL to act now.

And good on Max for not retaliating to all those hits he copped on Wednesday. The umps were so one-sided until it got to a stage where the Crows couldn't win that they decided to start evening up the free kick count. If Max did retaliate, no doubt the umps would have penalised him for it (such was the rod they had for those cellar dwellers)

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
