Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

POSTGAME: Rd 10 vs Adelaide

I actually think the tentativeness in the first three quarters was the players not wanting to make a costly mistake and put Goody under more pressure. That to me speaks that they’re playing for him, and want him to do well. The last quarter speaks for itself really - our game plan in full flight against limited opposition.
For me, Oliver’s decision making, Jackson’s athleticism and May’s aggressiveness the highlights (and Viney’s first right foot goal ever - prove me wrong).

We did what we should have done against the bottom team - a 9 goal win. The cadence of it is not so relevant. I thought we were the dominant team most of the night. Challenge is now to maintain the effort and pressure against better opposition.

We won all four quarters, and the fourth quarter was obviously everything we wanted at three quarter time. Gawn wasn't dominant at all but we worked into the stoppages/clearances as we went.

But we have to bear in ind that our opponent is a basket case, and we had two extra days break.

I'm loathe to read too much into that fourth quarter.

So rather than team performance, there were some individual efforts that were super impressive.

Oliver was incredible, and the key change he made to burst away from stoppages and get some distance from Adelaide's mids was really important and just what he needed to do. Viney stood up when we needed.

Jackson showed a tonne of promise. He and Weideman worked well together, I thought.

Lever and May were exceptional in the first half when we were making mistakes and Adelaide had pressure on. Hibberd was also good, Lockhart played his role, and I didn't notice Tomlinson which is probably a good thing.

Still passengers galore though: ANB, Jones, Bennell, Sparrow, vandenBerg. Salem struggled, Brayshaw only came into it as Adelaide faded.

As I said, I'm loathe to read too much into this. North will be a sterner challenge than Adelaide was, and I dearly hope we don't think tonight has fixed our problems.

Finally, looks like vandenBerg is injured?

Reckon Sparrow deserves a few more games, titan.  I thought he showed more than the others you've mentioned.  Has courage, a bit of pace about him and uses it well.  For only his fourth game I think he shows some promise and is worth persisting with, even if he faded in the second half.

Agree with the rest.  Good win, but we can't read much into beating up on a side that is now 0-10.

Best game of Clarry’s career.

Welcome back Gus.

Jackson is going to be amazing.

Get the [censored] out of the team Langdon.

Very pleased to see both Oliver and Brayshaw grow as the game sweated on.

Really happy for Jackson and Weid to bag a few.

Nice to get a win with both the zuperztarz Gawn and Petracca being a bit quiet for much of the night.

Langdon and Tomlinson are currently combining for what we were hoping to get from either one of them.

Overall, seems like we only really focused in the final quarter, but it also just might be that we got our conditioning right this season and Burgess may yet be worth more than every penny he cost.

First half was nerve wracking but loved the way they the buried them into the ground in the last. Intensity seemed to improve.

May and Viney were awesome in the first half. Great to see Gus get involved in the 2nd half. 3 votes Clarry what a game.

Oliver was amazing, Jackson looks like an inspired pick 3 and our percentage is now 100%.  Good last quarter.   I didn’t think we missed the supermacs tonight.  Lever and May were good.  Love Langdon but his kicking ?

I don't know what to make of this game.  We all said it had to be an 8 goal win, which is exactly what we did.  But by God, did we stink it up for three quarters before we turned it on big time at the end.  However, what we can't overlook is the fact that we beat up a very young side that hasn't won a game all season.  If this was a Richmond, then you would be fist pumping.  As it's Adelaide, it's more a sigh of relief.

Oliver, Viney and Trac all stood up for us when we needed it most.  In that last term when we would have been a bit nervous and the confidence still dodgy, they worked their backsides off to kill off the contest and get us over the line.  And a special mention to Gus for his second half - where has that been?  He was terrific and looked better than he has all season.

But if those mids won it, then it was our backline that kept us in it during the first three quarters.  May was fantastic and is showing exactly why we wanted to get him to the club.  He made Walker look like a joke, he spoiled and took contested marks and backed up all the boys with some real aggression.  Keeping them to five goals, and 1 in the second half, is a great effort even though it was against the bottom side.  You still have to do it.

We still have problems.  Skills and decision making is a worry, as always, and we still have a few passengers.  ANB and AVB gave us little, while outside of a class goal, Bennell couldn't get near it.  We got smashed around the clearances in the first half and we are lucky we had our backline to save us.

Umpiring was the worst I've ever seen, too.  Just atrocious.

But you know what?  We are 4-5, which is almost hard to believe.  Win this weekend and we are 5-5 with a game in hand, which is almost incredible.

Enjoy the win and lets smash the Kangas on Sunday!

P.S - Plus we need to persist with Weid and Jackson.  Five goals, plenty of contests and some class from Jacko as well.  They make a good combo!

When did you start composing this opus?

Kudos to our backline after a bad week of press. May in particular was outstanding.

The Crows starting forward line (according to the AFL website) of Himmelberg, Walker, Lynch, Murphy, McHenry and Kelly combined for a whopping one goal.

Lol cos we’re still [censored] but not as [censored] at the Crows.
Ball use is terrible, our fwd line is suspect but Crows are really bad.

North is must win, Pies game is the test.

Some very bad moments, but okay in the end. Brayshaw even did something..Yeah, against the worst team in the comp, but credit where credit’s due....

Gus was actually the player that started to steady the horrid mostly 'play on without assessing' from so many early.

His kick inside 50 to hit (someone ?) up after marking just forward of the middle in the 3rd was the steadier IMHO.

Some positives over and above the engine room firing away (Oliver and Viney were immense)

Jones did OK I thought

Brayshaw lifted big time second half, added some polish

Jackson was great for a kid, love how he peeled back to run straight and hit Melksham laces out... This kid looks good

Backline looked to function well, albeit against the B's

And to withstand their deliberate intensity and the horrible umpiring and then grind them away was pleasing

Hard to justify us as good off that, but some upside from S#it

Brayshaw's second half was hard working and had an influence in the game when it counted in the last quarter. Hopefully now he might recognize how should be playing.

Oliver is a super human magnet he just wants the ball in his hands at all costs and reads the game better than anyone.

Who would have guessed that playing a midfielder (angus) in the midfield would actually allow him to play well!

People need to cool their jets on angus at least for the moment, he showed glimpses of his 2018 self tonight.

Clarry sensational and Lukey Jackson looks like the beginning of a star.

I'll be wearing the dees jumper on the zoom meeting tomorrow!

Go dees!

GO DEES WHAT A TEAM SIGN GOODY UP FOR 50 YEARS LOL.

The win we had to have. North game will be hard but we are due to beat them and they have injuries.

How good was Clarry? Back to his best.

Viney and May were also great.

I'm confident we can have a good second half of the year even with Goody as coach.

Jesus Christ that would have to be the worst spectacle of football since round 11 Melb v Fitzroy 1981

Our players can't handle the ball
Can't kick it to each other
Can't catch it if they do
Do our players think their teammates are 3 metres tall? Why every handpass over their heads?

And again, why does every opposition team find time and space when they have the pill, but we're always always always under the pump?

So many players went missing it was like playing 3 men short

AFC using the tried and true method of defeating the MFC. And again we had no counter for it, other than to hope AFC are worse than us. (Spoiler: they are.)

The umpiring. Let's not go into the usual weekly inexplicable decisions, the non-decisions, etc. AFC were under obvious instructions to rough us up, scrag, hold, and ... the umps let them. In a way the joke was on AFC as I was waiting for the evener-uppers in the last quarter. Sure enough, they came and we got goals from them.

On the plus side, Jackson starting to find his feet.

Mate he started in the middle at literally the opening bounce and had 1 touch to half time.

Okay he looked better against a poor, tiring side after half time but come on.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
