Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He knows what he is doing. Last year wanted Georgiadis in the twenties (picked at ?18, earlier than predicted) and was very keen on Zac Butters. Both very handy players for this stage of their careers.

Our draft picks are also influenced by the coaches and outcome of trades.

I’m afraid you’re more positive on Jason Taylor than me.  Really needs at least two out of Petty, Sparrow, Jordan & Dunkley to become good players for me to give him a Pass considering his misses.

Marlion Pickett is tearing it up for the tiges. Dunno what taylor saw in Dunkley to pick him ahead of pickett.

I see Brayshaw is still getting a game. That probably answers your question.

I am wondering of the refusal to play Brayshaw in the middle has something to do with strength issues in his arm. Elbow tendon injuries like he had over summer are notorious for taking 12-18mnths to get your strength back,.

Hardly tearing it up. Once with more than 8 kicks. 3 games with 1 goal. meh...

Did I mention he was 28yo?

He didn’t chose to trade 6 - that is a list management decision.
Goodwin’s influence is all over many of our recent selections eg Sparrow, Jordon - more inside mids when we have a million.

I'll give you Sparrow, but is Jordon an inside mid?  I always got the impression he was more of a flanker than anything else.

Not sure Marlion Pickett was right for us and not nailing a Pre Season Draft pick, albeit a number 2 is in itself not a hanging offence but it appears from a distance that both Collingwood (Noble) & Essendon (Snelling) have added quick players that have both become far more regular additions in their teams than what Dunkley has in ours.

Maybe Dunkley will become the better player of all 3, however, that isn't the case right now and Dunkley was not the type we were screaming out for.  Noble is probably much more of that type.

More importantly, you can't keep missing with Picks in the 20's & 30's which is why it is critical that at least two out of Petty, Sparrow, & Jordan become solid B Grade players.

I'd argue that pickett was a perfect fit for us. Would add experience as well as a bit of pace for us. Unfortunately all our new draftees from the last 3 years are not quite ready so it would be good to have an older body in the team. I reckon Pickett is doing quite well, whilst Dunkley looks like a delist, just doesn't seem to have the pace for AFL level. I always thought the pre season draft was ideal to fill immediate needs during the season, rather than drafting a kid in the hope they make it.

This is sinking to new lows of hindsight stupidity, even by your horrendously low standards.

Pickett was taken in a mid-season rookie draft at age 28.

Every club, including Richmond, passed on him previously.

He's played one outstanding game in the GF, where Richmond's opponent didn't exist. He otherwise averages 12 touches a game. Hardly "tearing it up". And he was dropped earlier this year.

Middle of last year we were heading towards the bottom 4. How does an unproven 28 year old flashy player help us?

Hardly. That is what they hoped for, and what we might have thought we got.

But there is a big enough body of evidence to say now Fritter is not an elite kick. Average but not elite. Just look at his turnovers and missed set shots this year for reference.

Or did you mean fritter is also a party boy?

Jordon was drafted as a half back flanker, but has since been turned into an inside mid in VFL. Another tick for Goodwins masterplan to have an entire team made up of 22 inside mids!

"A fierce wll to win" isn't just a bull at the gate type. In team sports it requires players chemistry and cohesion.

I believe that it is about making the others around you better players, because without that we lose.

Yes that's true. Good points.

I do wonder though a will to win can be confused with how ferocious player is at the contest, even by recruiters and and that it means selections can be weighted to the bull at gate type, like Viney for example.

On Viney, he certainly has a will to win and is fierce at the contest. unfortunately he lacks the skill set to help us win.

I find the problem with this list is alot of them dont have that killer mentality that viney has. They seem to be okay with a loss rather than hate losing. Blokes like brayshaw fritsch melksham and harmes are big culprits.

Jackson is lost as a KPF. He runs to the pockets and his marking is still requiring work.  No contested marks in the last 3 weeks.  His go is his athleticism and 2nd efforts.  Both outstanding.  More midfield like. So his position is Ruck in the mould of Brodie Grundy. Given we have Max who should play until his 33-34, I think Jackson is 3-4 years away from assuming the ruck role.   My “Eagles” mate reckons they see him replacing Nic-Nat and will entice him home with a truckload of cash to get him.

Bahahaha ???

Tearring it up? We’re now assessing a mid season draft? On a bloke overlooked by 16 clubs 6-7 times each? Seriously some of you ppl make it REALLY hard to even peruse these posts.. holy heck what a spud comment

Anyone thinking the decision to get rid of Watts was wrong only needs to look at the 2016 B&F when Watts came 5th. Have a look at his cringeworthy speech and Roos' intro that stated that "Jack decided to become a great player"

Start of next season he was dropped from all of the pre-season games because he came back out of shape. He was gone at season's end.

Watts is a wasted talent. The world is full of them. Football wasnt of great interest to Jack he'd rather go motorboating with buxom women.

Hmm doesn't seem all that bad jnr. Boating with buxom women, not the worst alternative. Seriously he was one of the best kicks in the team.

Getting a game cus of what we saw 2nd half last night - he’s a gun kick and decision makers who’s playing out of position but that when gets it, can slice through an opposition a commodity we have in very slight stock.. we will get balance right eventually and he will find his way just like Clayton will last night another shining example of how coaching and making adjustments can make world of difference to a player!

If you can’t understand why you shouldn’t or why your comment is utterly ridiculous then your so far from being able to comment any the complexities of recruitment, that you shouldn’t even comment on the disparity between Watts and Natianui, let alone Dunkley to a near 29yr old Pickett who’s at best plodding along this year, and wouldn’t of seen a game past the resuming if tigers hadn’t of been so decimated! But it’s such a low end, needs based draft it’s like commenting on picks 80-88 in national draft - it’s all done on needs and spec! So please, leave it to JT mate, stick to saying things like “kick the bloody thing” or “go long to the goal square” - Questioning a man as experienced and highly regarded as Jason Taylor, when discussing the lowest priority, least researched pick he’s ever made (which was more a coaching pick than recruitment pick anyway) is an absolute abomination of absurdity.

Yes he could kick but that was never the issue as you well know. 9 seasons 1 top 5 finish in the B&F.

1st year at Port a chastened Jack finished 21st in the B&F

Jack was a coaster and you know it.

The Motorboating I totally understand.

Not if we are successful, good players don’t often leave successful sides. We play finals the next two years and he will be a Dee for the next 5-6 years.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
