Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The most glaring part is the fact they all see what we see. We don’t change in game. He doesn’t try and change the game.and once the ball gets out of the congestion they know they will kill us.

This is why Goodwin will be gone at the end of the season, particularly if we don't look like making finals.

Backing in the system is fine if it's worked consistently and if selections are correct. It's very rare we get both of those right.

I'm surprised how balanced it is and IMO it shows how highly rated our list is externally.

It's a matter of getting structures and coaching right now. And obviously intensity and effort (see the Port game).

We have too many Coaches who cant (Coach)

                        AND

Too many Footballers who cant Football. (A few who can handball though)

Now, which Adelaide kid wins the Rising Star nod this week?

Nice little write up by an ex poster! Robs seriously knows his football and already has a lot of coaching experience for someone his age. Hoping the club reaches out to him about a coaching position in future.... he's die hard red and blue!

It does beggar belief that our problems are so obvious to even casual football watchers at this point. Headed for back to back bottom four finishes. Surely the coaching staff gets overhauled at the end of the year!

Wasn't really that deep, pretty much an outsider making a pretty basic comments.

Why do we not have the forward 50m pressure, simple our players have pushed to high up the ground and we are always kicking to a 1 v 3.  Our ball movement is appalling and doesn't give our players the confidence to work hard forward as they know we are likely to turn the footy over and their player is waiting over the back for an easy transition.

Until we can address our skill level, no matter what game plan it will be ineffective.  We have to control the football, once you control the football you can dictate on how the game is going to be played.

It will!

Have heard some talk that the football dept has been officially put on notice and the club is making enquiries about an extensive external review of the entire football department

seemingly the executive branch of the club agrees that the current situation is not one that will see us having any serious success in the near future and may need to change.

in saying that, it doesn't mean Goody can't coach, or shouldn't be the coach. i just think it really says the game plan, and culture at present isn't working and needs to be overhauled. Buckley and Hardwick have undergone transformations like this in recent memory. hopefully Goody can learn from them.

When we had Jesse we kicked the ball to land on his head in a 1 v 3 contest. That he scored so many goals is a credit to him, not the coach, club or team.

Without Jesse a the main target, we seem to kick to anyone in the forward line who is at best one on one or more likely 1 v 2 and in an unfavourable position. No wonder the ball comes out quicker than it goes in. This has been an issue since the days when we lost matches with a 50% advantage in inside 50s. It has gone on for too long.

The whole world can see it except for the coaches and the players. It's now 11.55 pm on the change clock. Get changing.

Interesting.

Didn't realise he was a former poster or that he was Melbourne. No wonder he was so balanced. ;)

I think a bottom 2 finish and another season where we miss finals altogether is untenable, from where we were two years ago. It's completely unacceptable and I think the board would be well within its rights to sack, unless there is a significant turnaround in performance and coaching.

Great post as usual mate.

The Hardwick example in particular was the administrative arm taking action and changing things up and four years on they could have 3 flags in the bag.

Obviously, the Collingwood review was pushed by the administrative arm too, but hasn't reaped the reward yet / may not.

Clearly the club backed Goodwin and Mahoney's internal review last season, and I'd argued have already stuck by the coach when they could have flicked him at the end of last year given the horrendous nature of the season.

Instead, it backed him with a new fitness boss and said let's see you give it your best shot. So far, it would be an understatement to say our performance hasn't been up to standard in 2020.

I doubt any coach is facing the axe because Covid has destroyed the game's economics. As odd as this time is, coaches have never been safer than they are right now.

Many on here and especially @rjay and I were pushing for an external review more than 18 months ago.  Obvious what the issues were.

But what did the club do 2019 post season - they let Mahoney review his own department.  Good changes were made to the fitness and analytics side.  But abysmal decisions on the coaching side.

Meantime we have lost a year and our talented players a one year closer to being Free Agents.

we have known that for the last 12 months and it was re enforced in Round 1 after which he had a three month break and then in rounds 2 and 3 etc he doubles down with his small forward line.

Not sure this guy is capable of learning

If you want to look at two contrasting examples look how Hardwick played with a young team by slowing the game down against the dogs and keeping his two key talls deep forward. Against Port (ladder leader and fast team) we just go business as usual.

The game's economics are based on membership and winning, brand value etc.

If we finish outside the 8, the board would argue to the AFL that results under Goodwin are untenable and that if change is not made, the economic repercussions are far worse.

We're talking about a multi-billion dollar industry that has the security of two big banks that it can leverage loans and funds from. In this situation, the AFL will cough up the cash under certain conditions.

Whats that saying about our recruitment strategy?? No clubs fault hogan  wanted to  back home etc but why go after another defender & nothing against May but GC used pick 6 to get King who we should have replaced for Hogan understanding  would need to develop. We have over invested  in defenders & our Fwd line can't function & the ball comes back out faster then it goes in!

What's done is done. Let's accept we made mistakes and move forward properly. Review the FD now, so that we know how to act come the end of the season.

If we end up turning it around, great, if not, we know which triggers need to be pulled.

Perhaps the club was misled by how well we played in some matches that Hogan missed.

Maybe it is the new curfew and shut downs but I'm not feeling as generous as your good self.

I wish I was confident the AFL will fund another staffing bail out for us.  Our predicament might just given them the ammo they need to merge clubs in post covid economics.  Many other clubs will say we have had enough chances and keep stuffing it up and will argue there is a fair chance we will do it again.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
