Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Assistant Coaches 2021

We've done the Goody discussion to death. Don't think there's much doubt he'll see out the year and probably more likely than not to be there next year. So thought it might be time to discuss the current assistants and potential targets for next year. A football department review will no doubt be starting soon, and the assistant coaches will be seen as the main area we can improve and afford to change.

This is just opinion.

Alan Richardson - Safe. Contract and experience will keep him there.

Troy Chaplin - Probably safe. Backline has been a strength this year despite the chaos around it. Only thing might be his relationship with Mahoney given Mahoney is a high chance to not be at the club next year.

Justin Plapp - Gone. Have always liked him, but can't defend how poor our midfield has been both in skills and connection.

Ben Mathews - Probably gone. Highly rated in AFL circles, but feel like if we don't lift in his areas then he'll be moved on or he may just feel it's time for a change.

Matthew Egan - Gone. Couple of his mates in McCartney and Jennings gone, players either not developing or going backwards.

Max Rooke - Gone. Was told he was gone last year but somehow survived. Almost identical to Egan in his KPIs surely not being met and his mates now mostly gone.

Sam Radford - No idea tbh. Probably safe purely from the Casey connection.

(Have I missed anyone?)

That would leave us with a lot of holes to fill. So who do we realistically go for?

Average list of assistants, wouldn’t miss any of them.
Another win for Saints today, wonder what Richo has learnt from that situation??

Stafford? Can't say our goal kicking has improved

Ah yep! Ironically I was talking about him in another thread when I posted this too!

Ruck setup and goal kicking has been horrible this year, doesn't look good for him.

Voss has a lot more C@&! in him, I’d take him. Don’t care how highly rated Yze is.

Voss tried and failed not sure he would be that great. Yze will be a great coach being coached under the coach of the century in Clarkson. Clarkson would be my pick if he can get Hawthorn up with that ordinary list he can do anything.

Teague, Shaw, Ratten...

Given 2019, You'd think an assistant coaching role with potential for promotion to a caretaking coach role might be coveted enough to bring in some decent fresh minds into the club. The Yze and Brad Miller types that have been in the system close to 10 years should be eyeing off assistant roles here.

Although any more of last week, or not enough improvement in general and we can skip all that and start interviews for almost all positions in 2 months time.

I shudder at the thought of anyone currently there taking over for 10 long weeks next year. Treading water

Has everyone forgotten we had a major football department review and overhaul a mere 9 months ago?

We chose to have the coaches we have.  Or we couldn't get who we wanted so had to settle for second, third best.

Lots of names being thrown around.  Looks like wishful thinking.  I mean why would the names being mentioned want to come to the mfc.

Re Richardson.  I was critical of his appointment and I've had a really good look at his CV.  I see nothing that says he is a good coach or has been part of a successful club.  He leaves the Saints and they now sit 3rd on the ladder.  I have yet to see a positive impact of his recruitment to mfc.   I hope someone can shed some light on why we hired him.

I agree we're going to have a hard time attracting the big name assistants, but having a review doesn't mean we got the review right. The review was done by one of the people who should have been under review. Plus, all they did was shuffle the existing coaches around.

Clearly we got it wrong.  I've said so ad nauseam.  Also said numerous times Mahoney should not have reviewed his own department.  For him it was about maintaining the status quo.

We did more than just shuffle coaches, we let go many quality coaches and kept/got inexperienced/unsuccessful ones.  Not a formula for success.

Those coaches didn't leave until end of season though, so hard to definitively say that was due to the review. Rawlings chose to leave as well, he's a smart operator so I wonder if he saw the writing on the wall.

For mine, the assistant coaching changes made last year were more about getting rid of anyone who challenged Goody rather than developing a cohesive environment of different voices.

Stubbornness is they key word.

Any inside goss on what went on there DD? Seems like a strange one, contracted for another 2 years apparently. What's Solo's go? Strengths? Don't know much about him as a coach.

Also just quietly, really hoping we have another crack at a certain Hawks assistant this year too...

Nah not too sure mate. Had a relative who played at the suns and retired last year.

Remember he pointed out Solomon as one of the best blokes he's met in footy. Didn't take much notice at the time, only pricked up upon hearing the latest news.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
