Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I agree it’s not JT

The trades of Preuss and Tomlinson probably need more scrutiny, as does giving 2x first round picks for Lever.  Mahoney or Taylor or Goodwin?

Preuss trade not the worst move IMO.

With no Hogan/Pedersen they probably didn't want play Tmac/Weid in the ruck in event that Maxy went down.

Either way, now we have some decent trade bait as several teams could do with him.

Tyson no big loss given similar players.

I reckon his success rate is about 50/50 which for an AFL recruiter is pretty damn good. Some of those players he traded in (not drafted) were exactly what we needed in the short term, to say some of them were errors because they didn't play 250 games for us is an error in itself.

This thread is aging well in the amusement stakes.

I can't remember the last time the kids we've drafted have come into the team and shown as much promise as all 3 of these kids.

Many bemoaned the pick swap trade to get Pickett but it's looking like a masterstroke. The only players on current form that look the goods drafted after him are Will Day and Georgiades but they weren't the type of player we needed.

Rivers at 35 looks a steal,  Jacko is looking like a freak talent and seemingly gaining confidence every game.

Small sample size/early days I know but we look to have nailed it in the 2019 draft.

We are the only team in the AFL this year that's had all our draftees from last year play together in the one game.

Again, that's a huge tick for Jason Taylor.

Remember when we used to continually blow high picks on the likes of Watts, Scully, Gysberts, Toumpas, Morton, Gysberts, Blease, Strauss, Cook.....

Well Taylor has got us  Oliver, Petracca, Salem, Brayshaw, Weideman, Viney, LJ, Pickett, Rivers.....

If this was a serious thread about drafting during Taylor's time at the club we could have all kind of interesting discussions about attempting to make the most of diverse speculative third round picks, the routine decision to trade second rounders for mature players to get some stability into the team, and the contentious decisions to bank our early picks on getting some allegedly first-rate key defenders into the club for a tilt at a premiership while we still have Gawn at full strength.

Overall, I'd say each layer of decisions has been a sensible strategy and it is unfortunate that many of those late speculative selections have had mixed and unreliable results.

But this takes us back to the old 'selection vs development' argument.  There are a lot of players who have shown something significant for at least a while and even whole seasons, but then plateaued or stagnated, or just been injured.

Hunt, Harmes, Vandenberg, Nibbler, O.Mc, Smith, Hannan, Fritsch, Hore.  All worthy AFL level when in good form, but all have seen long spells of poor form, and not a single pick above 40 in that set.

Wrong about Fritsch LG was still good learning his back line craft maybe his delivery and decision making a little dodgy.

Now still averages betw 1.5 and 2 goals per game when played forward.

Needs to work on his accuracy both in set shots and snaps plus his marking when gage hets hands on ball he sometimes doesn't hold the mark.

If he die this over the this season snd 2021 we will be looking at Gawny prediction of 40 plus and maybe a Coleman medal contender.

Really all ways you look at Bayley he is a wonderful young player and team And person to boot and we are very lucky to have him.

Definitely on the Do NOT TRADE list !!

I agree with the general sentiment that this thread is a joke, and people who criticised the club for drafting Jackson or PIckett (or for the North pick swap) were wrong.

But Demonland blows in the wind and if we lose to Collingwood, and/or to anyone else this year, and/or we don't make finals, the same arguments will be trotted back out.

Sorry Jas. Funnily enough when we lose I think you can't recruit when we win suddenly your a genius. This year's recruiting spree has been amazing. Jackson, Kossie and Rivers all look amazing. Last year's not so but Sparrow is starting to look the goods. Weid's finally showing something, Clarry has been amazing and Petracca and Brayshaw have showed why they are top recruits, Salem has also been good.

Overall it's been a lot better than Prenergast. Win us a Premiership and your our recruiter for life and I will never doubt you again.

Just for balance, I've been in the ranty wing of Team Fritta for some time. You'll find far too many posts of me insisting that Fritsch is in the top five of his draft and I stand by that. At the time this thread was started Fritsch was kicking his couple of goals but doing little else and that was definitely below his best, but the flat period for him of course was his inconsistency while neing tossed around the ground last year. 100% Fritsch output is a lock for All Australian.

Anyway, the sack Taylor wailing was, like, three whole weeks ago and since then our season has been turned around largely by the resurgence of players who were 'trade disasters' and 'not up to it' and 'failed experiments' as recently as July.

Sorry but everyone here would have been sharing the same optimism about those pickups at this stage of there careers.

Oliver is his standout, the jury is either out on the rest or I could have picked them from my couch. I don't know why you have included Viney considering he was drafted with Toumpas by his old man.

We are a mid range team and he has had some major assets to work with. Taylor has done some nice things but I don't share the over the top optimism on the back of beating two of the worst football teams to ever take the field.

Agreed, although it might also say that we're at that list cycle stage of going after players that can contribute immediately from day dot, rather than look to build a core over a number of years.

Jackson in particular is super impressive for his ability to stay in contests and run out games given he's playing in far more contested positions than Rivers or Kozzie are.

That said, all three look exciting prospects.

Could put @olisik in the same bracket. Will only ever come out after any loss. Goes MIA when there's a win...

Well, no one takes it seriously, so it's become more of a 'Praise Jason Taylor' thread. ;)

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
