Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Is Alistair Clarkson worth a discussion

Ross of the Lyon variety for me. Firstly Roos instilled 3 years of his mantra into our playing list and most of them are still on our list. Roos taught everything he knew to Lyon so we would be able to quickly assimilate to his playing structures. Clarkson likes tall and lean kids with great skills, or small and fast forwards... most of which we don't have. Clarkson may rate our side but it is completely different to what he is used to managing.

I think you'll find it was Roos who utilised Ross Lyons game plan at the Swans.

Denis Pagan,  Michael Malthouse are both available, too.

I'm sure you see my argument, and I accept it is not total, but that would be my concern.

You mean like when Collingwood poached Malthouse from the Eagles?

This is fantasy. There’s no way Clarkson would even think of coming to a club as hopeless as MFC

True. He also played footy for us so do you think he would be silly enough to coach us ?

Carlton tried this approach twice in the last 20 years, put them back at least 10

Clarko has been coaching since 2004 - I remember seeing him as a runner for us in ‘98 under Daniher post retirement - we also had Fagan as an assistant then too !!!

We need to be looking for the next Clarko

Worth considering, but can a new Coach deal with this Club?

We are Special Needs...

An excellent point - we have so many complete duffers i doubt it personally

The number of times last night I was left speechless at the complete

a) inability to physically compete, tackle effectively, hold ground
b) complete an effective disposal (other than directly to an opposition player)
c) demonstrate any capacity to bring the ball inside 50 to our advantage

was staggering - my money was on Port as i knew they were certainties the minute I read comments that we were playing good football the last few weeks and could win - hilarious - this sort of carp is served up time and time again by this group. The reality is this team is full of complete pretenders who seem very content with their paycheck and have either no desire or no ability to achieve real success

And that is exactly what we were hearing on here 10 years ago.
And in that time, nothing but turmoil and false dawns....

We we need the best coach in the land, who does not come on board just to fix up a mess, but to Coach for sustained success....

I'm all for that - been watching this tripe for 50+ years - with fleeting moments of partial success only to collapse into a complete rabble soon after

Been so many false dawns lost any belief change is possible

Who cares, with our current board refusing to admit they got the extension wrong, I doubt they’d have the foresight to even contemplate such a move. Even if every single supporter (which is getting fewer by the day) were to gather at AAMI and scream at the top of our lungs, they still wouldn’t hear us.

Yes. Lyon or Clarko would be my preference. I don’t think the club will part ways with Goodwin though...COVID means he will see out his contract imo

We need to ask the question... Goody surely has KPI's in his contract he is getting no where near, giving us reason for early termination.

He has had his time, we need to make a move now before it's too late.

Too late in the decision-making is a critical consideration. Are we to recruit the equivalent of out Team at the end of Goodwin's contract? Could that be possible? Hell, no!

In the interim, we lose the bank balance. We sit back to watch the talent that we have - and the depth - rot on the vine under Goodwin and his compliant associates, including the mysterious Club Chairman. They're doing alright, Jack, bugger the Club and its short-to-medium term future. (Melbourne is experienced at a decade-long re-build, it can do it again); however, this is not what the fans, supporters and members desire.

This scant success must frustrate the players who once looked forward to successful footballing careers, albeit that such careers have mixed -- but early - termination points. All that hard work, personal endeavour and team co-operation, the wasted lives and aspirations. It is a stark reminder that the players' efforts were only essential in a drawn-out process of making up the numbers for the greater good of a series of coaches, their footballing lieutenants and advisors, and the fans who invest more than money alone into the Club.

Worse than this is the product of such non-development of players to perform at their peak with consistency. If I was a footballer at this time, I'd be looking for an exit point from the MFC as there is no pot of gold at the end of this rainbow. To start with talent and promise, and end up as an 'also ran' is simply not fair or justifiable.

Rant, rant, rant.

End of ‘22. He won’t last that long if last night is any indication of his ongoing abilities

Agree. I’d see the removal of Goodwin and installing a half decent coach as a worthwhile investment. How many millions will be lost if Goodwin stays on?

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
