Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Depends on how you define ability.

I define is as talent

Injury and condition impacts on your capacity to optimize your ability.

Take Tiger Woods.  Arguably the greatest  golfer ever. Certainly close tot he most talented golfer ever.

Went fourteen years without a major in large part because of a chronic back injury. Didn't play competitive golf or more than 3 years. He didn't lose his talent in that time, thought of course he is closing in on 45 so getting older and won the masters.

At his age Tmac should be at the peak of his career as a power forward. It has is very unlikely he has lost his ability. Confidence yes, injury can do that (just look a Lever coming back after his knee injury), but talent and ability no.

He is clearly hampered by injury, chronic or otherwise.

I should be amazed, but am not, that so few seem to be acknowledging this seemingly evident fact (on here and worse football commentators and so called analysts who express confusion as to what has happened to him).

So why would the coach  play him. He is either injured and not ready to play or he is not injured and ready to play

I do not understand why it is so complicated

What-ever his present condition he is curently  adding zero to the team

So over to to the medical people, they can either get him right and fit for purpose or thy cannot. In which case drop him from the list

His problem is obviously related to his physical condition

Spot on binman there is something physically wrong, who knows if it is fixable or not. He is talented we have all seen that, you don’t lose your talent unless something physical or mental is stopping you from using it to is max.

Because there is no one else to help the Weid in the forward line.

Play brown that is why we got him on board

What's the use of playing a chronically injured player where is the sense is that

Mitch Cleary on the AFL site suggesting Tom should look elsewhere next year. Mentioned Essendon and Collingwood as possible homes. Based this on the presumption that we do not want him as we picked Preuss against Freo. Says he still has something to offer, cited the fact he kicked 4 goals in a semi final in 2018. Clearly has not done his research or seen Tom play this or last year.

So there you go, maybe some good will come out of this year after all!

Its complicated if it is chronic injury.

Using the Tiger Woods analogy, he played for more than decade with a chronic back injury. And for much of that time was still a pretty competitive golfer. Eventually he had to stop completely to get it right.

Perhaps they are playing him, thinking that even with the injury he can contribute, which to be fair he has tried to do.

VDB said in his interview on the Demonland Podcast as result of his foot injury, that he took two years to rehab and get back from, that he does not training between games. Perhaps Tmac is much the same. Without VFL games perhaps there is no real way to build his mobility.

Tmac has post season surgery after the 2018 season, coming up to 2 years ago. And as far as i know, none since and no other on field injury. Which to me suggests something chronic.

Personally i reckon Goody made a mistake with where they played Tmac. When in, they should play him, not Weed out of the square. Keep him deep as possible and get him to take all inside 50 throw ins.

Sure players would still run off him but his lack of mobility and agility would not nearly be as exposed if he was playing deep as it is up at CHF . And playing deep, as true fill forward his extra weight is helpful in terms of one on one contests and it would forces opposition coaches to sacrifice a big defender to man him, whereas with Weed, well they can put a weed on him

Not sure why Joel smith hasn't been tried in the fwd line. He is rubbish in the backline but looked great in last year's pre season in the fwd line. One of the bizarre goodwin decisions

I disagree (some matches) that Smith '...is rubbish in the backline...' in consideration of some other backmen we have tried this year. He does muck a few attempts with the ball down there but generally, gets to the ball and does one or two 1%'s if not. I'd rate him a 'serviceable' on occasion, but 'played out of position'. He has only just started having a run with the team this season - so I'd really like to see him down near goals for considerable parts of whatever games he acquires in the near future.

Has to come in this week.

Is 10 times the player that Preuss and Smith are who have no business being in the side.

T Mac's form has been down this year, but should come in for the last fortnight to try and build some confidence into next year.

Plus, he's a professional goal kicker. We have bugger all of that ilk.

And why play Smith who is a reasonable forward in the backline all year when he is clearly not a back man.

So R Jay you don't think Pickett has a future?

Really we are damned if we do or even if we don't sometimes

That is a great show of faith in an 18/19 yo and will reaffirm confidence in him.

Yes he has faults but look at the 2018 Riding star at the Pies he has had a rough nearly 2 years since.

We are too easily impatient With  youth!!!

Ummm...I'm not sure where you come to this conclusion.

Of course he does.

Play him at Full back and May at Full forward .

We will be more of a threat as a side, and desperate times call for desperate measures

He's only 27, turning 28 soon. Not sure whats going on with his body/mind but there should be a few more years in him yet. There should be expectation next year for him to return to the hard running forward that helps in the ruck.

However come the pointy end of his career I kind of expect him to be traded for cheap as a key position player, most likely a club needing a full back like what Collingwood did with Dunn.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
