Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

One thing that is completely infuriating and something i can't understand is why we have the best tap ruckman in the comp who always wins the hitouts and hitouts to advantage and yet still we get murdered in the clearances. I just dont understand.

I'm not sure i can watch next week. I love this club so much that seeing them go this badly actually hurts me in my heart. Everyone else on here that's hurting wouldn't be angry if they didn't actually love the club. If we didn't care, no one would post in this thread. I just so badly want them to go well but they just aren't going well. This really hurts because i love the dees so much.

I don't want to be one of those people who jumps the gun, as there are still plenty of games to be played, but if the club had some courage they would make some tough decisions at years end.

Where is Tom at?  Is he worth sticking with or moving on?

What about those who are just 'going'?  Harmes, Salem, Brayshaw... are they up to it or do they need a fresh start elsewhere, while we look at others or pocket a draft pick or two?

Do we nicely send Jones and Jetta off in to the sunset and look to the kids?

And, depending on how 2020 finishes, do we need to look very, very closely at Goodwin's job?

Who knows what next week will bring, but I'd wager that some tough decisions are coming.

Watching Port tonight showed the the model that sometimes trading away players like Wingard to get a Butters and Dursmaa ain't exactly a bad thing.

My first stop would be Brayshaw. Tmac won't get us much at all.

Harmes unfortunately got signed up for a ridiculous 5 year deal.

Example one - why, in such slippery conditions, would you play three tall forwards?  What was he hoping to achieve?  Was he trying to keep Tom happy by playing him?  Did he just think our bombing tactics would work no matter what?  By playing three talls, two of which are awful at ground level, he took away our pressure game somewhat and we got smashed when the ball hit the deck.  Too often Port waltzed it out and made us look silly going the other way.  It was a dumb, dumb decision.

Agree with the entire post, but this bit really sticks out for me. Did we have any tactics whatsoever in the first quarter? Didn't run from half back at all. Didn't use the corridor at all. The players looked completely content to just keep going down the line straight to the Port outnumber, even though they were putting goal after goal on the scoreboard. What had Goodwin and the other coaches actually worked on during the week?

This is what happens when you have an assistant coach acting as GM for your club (Mahoney).

No forward coach, 2 picks for lever, drafting a basketballer, Richardson, Chaplin, Preuss, the list of poor decisions goes on and he continues to hide in the shadows.

Wot

So i guess the water boy needs to be reviewed now as well?

I don't read the paper much but maybe we aren't cheating either? Someone should talk to Don Scott.

My issue is how could goody arrive at the decision to pick him

We had a near full list to choose from. And we pick a player not in shape. And a third tall firward to boot.

I simply don't understand.

Some possibilities:

Tommy is still good enough, but the coach is useless

Tommy is out of form, and the coach is useless

Tommy is injured, and the coach is useless

Tommy isn't up to it any more, and the coach is useless

Needs a better football mind than mine to know for sure which of these scenarios is the right one. Food for thought ...

You cannot play Weideman, Jackson, Tom McDonald ... in the same side. Way too top heavy. Just ridiculous. They looked and played slow.

You can actually. As everyone keeps saying, Jackson went where he did in the draft because of his speed and ground ball play. The tallest mid in the comp, yadda, yadda, yadda. It's not as if we had 3 battleships up there.

I haven’t seen a performance that poor in ages.  lazy, weak tackles, second to the ball, not covering the outlets properly, not honouring player with the ball.  Midfield as a unit were disgraceful.  TMAC was so far off the pace it was not funny.  Several of the young guys tried hard, but they should all hang their heads in shame.  We had a chance to make a statement and they served up that dross.

If Goody sugar coats that in the presser (“no question”...something or other) I will spew.

Suck [censored] demons.  That was woeful.  Break my damned spirit with that one.

I hope Kennett is ripping into Clarkson right about now.

Clarkson has got a huge ego. If Pert has any clue whatsoever,  he'll be in his ear saying that leading this rabble to a premiership would easily cement his status as the best coach of all time.

It's that simple.

Trouble is what is Max doing with his hit outs? His hit outs aren’t going to our guy’s advantage that often. Contrast the tap work of NicNat on the weekend and how he tapped to his teams advantage.

Spot on.

The one piece of play that stuck out to me was in the first term.  Viney got the ball at half forward.  He looked across to the other flank, saw Salem, and ignored him.  He faked kicking it there, got past his opponent... and then ignored Gawn on the lead, who had a few steps on Ladhams and would have beaten him in the air with a half decent kick.

Instead, he kicks to the square where his kick puts Trac off balance, allowing Westhoff to out mark him.  He had two clear options and didn't take them, before going to the wrong one.  It's just dumb, dumb footy.

And who is to blame?  Is Viney being arrogant with his decisions?  Or are they instructed to hit the top of the square as often as they can?

Either way, it summed up our efforts tonight.

Ratten would have been good but that opportunity has gone

Goodwin has had his chance

Wont matter who coaches us. will be the same results.

Lets be honest, the only reason we are a "club" is because of the AFLs TV deal. When they actually decide not to prop up any clubs, then we will be gone. Could be closer than we think with Covid

Stopped watching after the Jackson miss and they went up the other end of the ground, I didn't watch the kick but my brother told me they scored a goal. Only just checked the final score then.

What stood out early and killed the contest for us what the return of our diabolical disposal, when you can't execute the basics your going to be beaten most days no matter what the team. Today we played a team that is top of the ladder so say what you like about them but they know how to beat the teams below us.

In the first quarter we had several inside 50s that were just awful kicks giving our forwards no chance, then at the fall of the ball there wasn't any interest from the small/mid forwards to put pressure on. From that point onward we just had nothing to give, perhaps the 4 day break is a bridge too far for footballers, we're going to find out over the next two weeks.

Two games in a row we have ruck dominance but the other team just wants the ball more, this surely has to be a gameplan issue because good opposition teams seem to have worked out how to play Max Gawn and beat our inside mids.

I have to say Tom McDonald is on thin ice with his place a the club let alone the team. I'm not blaming him for the poor inside 50s but is there a correlation that when we returns the disconnect with the midfield returns? Putting that aside he looks really really slow, in body and mind.

Of the three talls he'd be my first pick to be dropped.

Look as much as we are all hurting by that display, we clearly could not cope with the short break.

The question that begs is why didn't the coaches see that coming and Burgo must share that blame bigtime. Bloody stubborn stupidity is what I'd say and Goody's loyalty to his favourites backfired when he opted to not bring in fresh legs.

But what's more worrying is that I feel we have an exceptional list and I suspect a lot of you feel that way as well, and quite a few commentators do too. But we are underperforming chronically with a terrible panic gameplan, despite having what many feel is the best central midfield in the game.

To me the blame gets back to one person and no matter how good he is as a bloke and no matter how much the players like him, he now has to be moved on. It's quite sad really because he had some good ideas - don't forget he was the first man to have an extra two run off the back through the middle before they changed to the 6-6-6 rule. Goody is also the only man to coach the Dees into the finals since 2006.

There was a rock opera about a kid called Tommy who was deaf dumb and blind.

After all these years ... could The Who have made it about the wrong MFC personality?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
