Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I wasn't saying were are a good side.  I'm just saying the good sides know exactly how we will play and counter it with ease.

Thats also my point

We aren't a good side. So maybe your expectations are wrong?

I'm not one for going over the top.  I like to think I'm relatively measured in my responses.

But there was something deeply, deeply concerning about tonight's game.  It was almost like a car crash that you couldn't look away from.  Every time I went to turn it off I couldn't bring myself to do it.  I had to keep watching.  Just what in the world was going on here?

While we can blame the players and their skills and decision making, this one was lost in the box more than anything.  Goody is a very stubborn bugger and tonight it showed.

Example one - why, in such slippery conditions, would you play three tall forwards?  What was he hoping to achieve?  Was he trying to keep Tom happy by playing him?  Did he just think our bombing tactics would work no matter what?  By playing three talls, two of which are awful at ground level, he took away our pressure game somewhat and we got smashed when the ball hit the deck.  Too often Port waltzed it out and made us look silly going the other way.  It was a dumb, dumb decision.

Example two - favourtism.  While I think some players get a run over others sometimes based on their skills and what they can bring to the side, he has stuck by too many for too long and I can't work out why.  Melksham stunk it up again.  Brayshaw had just 11 touches. Hannan had no influence again.  Jones looks absolutely cooked.  By playing a few of these guys our team is totally out of whack.  He is happy to cut someone like Tomlinson, who was no worse than those mentioned above, but he sticks by others who are in the same boat or worse.  Why?  What does he have to gain from it?  It sends a horrible message.

Example three - the gameplan.  Now, our players can take some responsibility here.  Their skills and decision making under pressure can be catastrophic.  But good sides work us out and we have no comeback for it.  For not the first time in Goodwin's time as coach, we went goalless in a quarter while having an absolute bucket load of inside 50s.  We had heaps and didn't look like scoring from one.  We kick to the wrong places, our forwards don't lead enough and we don't get enough numbers around the ball to keep it in there.  He might have changed the personnel a little, but the game plan remains the same.  It looks poor and we are our own worst enemy.

I'm hurting, like you all are, tonight.  I'm not going to call for Goodwin to be sacked, or to fling [censored] everywhere, but tonight was one of the worst performances we have put in for a long time.  Some might say the four day break hurt, but Port had one extra day plus travel and they had to deal with injuries.  We had to do neither.

I'm really worried right now about the direction of the club under Goodwin, and for the first time under his coaching, I'm not sure he can get us out of it.

Goodwin is not up to it. These are games that must be won.
it was over in the first 2 minutes

This Club needs the best Coach in the land, losing is so deeply ingrained.

Ratten would have been good but that opportunity has gone

Goodwin has had his chance

If I have to watch Tom McDonald attempt to football again I’m gonna throw up.

Not figuratively speaking either.

I will physically vomit as he lumbers out onto the ground.

He can take an uncontested mark. Provided he doesn’t have to jump more than half a foot in the air. And he can run a long distance. Very, very slowly.

That’s it. That’s all that is left of T Mac the footballer. Everything else is beyond him.

Please god. Please. God. No more.

Unfortunately our most prolific ball getters are among our worst disposal / decision making.  Therein lies our problem

Worth repeating.

So many turnovers, so many chains of possession that broke down. The once or twice we were able to string together a few possessions, we looked like a side. At least. DE of 66% (against their 78%) is always going to land you in a heap of trouble. Whatever else is happening, and you end up playing chase/catch-up footy.

I feel dirty but I felt sorry for the commentators. When you're supposed to be narrating a contest between 2 opponents and one of them decides it's in the too hard basket from the first bounce it must be very difficult to try to make your way through.

Someone like Luke Hodge who spent a career competing should never be made to commentate on that group of pea-hearted non competitors again.

Agree with all... except your assessment of Jones. He was prob the only one with any poise tonight.

I don't want to be one of those people who jumps the gun, as there are still plenty of games to be played, but if the club had some courage they would make some tough decisions at years end.

Where is Tom at?  Is he worth sticking with or moving on?

What about those who are just 'going'?  Harmes, Salem, Brayshaw... are they up to it or do they need a fresh start elsewhere, while we look at others or pocket a draft pick or two?

Do we nicely send Jones and Jetta off in to the sunset and look to the kids?

And, depending on how 2020 finishes, do we need to look very, very closely at Goodwin's job?

Who knows what next week will bring, but I'd wager that some tough decisions are coming.

Garry annoys me sometimes, but he still loves the club, and that would have hurt to watch.

So much to be gutted by. Too raw to be get my head around that.game.

So I've just got one thing.

Tom McDonald is not in AFL shape. Physically. Or mentally. He is miles off.

It's not a form thing. It's a physically not up to an elite sport thing.

He was beyond a liability tonight. On a fast deck his complete lack of mobility and speed was shocking.

Exhibit A of an alphabet of examples. His inability to get close to marking that pass in the second quarter from Salem was laughable.

Sure it was yet another rubbish kick but he would have got to it in 2018

Which is not my issue. If he is not in shape  he is not in shape.

Allll of the above had to have been apparent to goody.

As fans we trust the club to know that as we cant watch him.train or plsy VFL. I fully expected him to be in ripping nick and raring to go. Or why else pick him?

My issue is how could goody arrive at the decision to pick him ?

We had a near full list to choose from. And we pick a player not in shape. And a third tall firward to boot.

I simply don't understand.

This is soul destroying. We won't come back from this. We need to get rid of the coach and start again. Get rid of some big names. Jones must have played his last game. Retire immediately. Salem, the McDonald's, Brayshaw, Weideman and even Oliver has to be on the trade table. We must go for Daniher Weideman is not up to it.

You've lost the plot. Daniher is an injury prone hack.

I thought T Mac built into the game nicely.

Pathetic game for TMac. OMac was bloody useless, again.

For OMac, just too slow for the one-on-ones on six occasions in the first quarter, alone. Four of these were goals to Port. Scaredy Cat in four contests as well in the same quarter and again, outside the packs to be out of harm's way without physical danger. GET RID OF HIM!

This is what happens when you have an assistant coach acting as GM for your club (Mahoney).

No forward coach, 2 picks for lever, drafting a basketballer, Richardson, Chaplin, Preuss, the list of poor decisions goes on and he continues to hide in the shadows.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
