Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why isn't Harmes tagging anymore? Harmes played his best footy as a tagger. It got him engaged in the game and he was one of the first picked players when he was in this role.

Another example of Goodwins inabilities as a coach.

I agree, but I think it's more an example of Goodwin's stubbornness as a coach. I believe he has the ability.

Would have clamped down on Neale and won comfortably. Did not change the dynamic of our midfield set up one bit and it cost us.

The selections for the Port game will really depend on how the players pull up after the game on Sunday.

However, if selection was on form in the game, there would be a couple of changes.

In defence, I saw Jetta as as weakness. He just does not seem to be able to track fast enough to a contest or his reading of the play is not what it used to be. After his head knocks, I could see him getting a rest and possibly brought back for the game after Port. I like the way the rest of the backline is playing. May, OMac, Lever, Salem and Hibberd are developing a good understanding and Lockhart, much to my surprise, is slotting in there well. Who gets a game in place of Jetta? well the obvious one would be Rivers but I would not be surprised to see Josh Wagner get  run.

Midfield did not perform up to standard at Max's feet. Not sure what the problem was? Caoching or players? If all have pulled up ok I would not change any in there. Petracca, Oliver and Viney on the inside with Brayshaw rotating there and Harmes used in a tagging role on an opposition key mid would be the way I would go. Langdon on one wing and a few, including Jones to rotate through the other. I do not see Jones getting dropped after one game.

In the forwards o would definately retain Wiedeman, Jackson, Melksham combination at the heart of the attack. Fritsch is there sa well but I would be looking to use him up the ground a bit more on an HFF as I like his mobility and delivery. Hannan had just a game on Sunday but I would retain him. One of Bennell or Pickett I would replace. I would be tempted to give Pickett a rest. I would like to see Sparrow given a run in his place.

With regard to TMac, well, I do not see any great reason to get him back in just yet. He was not in form in all the games he played prior to his eye injury and I don't think it is necessary to have a third tall against Port.

So, for me...

Out: Jetta, Pickett

In: Wagner, Sparrow

Wagner not even in the hub.

Would not be the first time that a logical tagger in Harmes going to players like Neale was not applied by the coaching fraternity. I agree, but this type of  oversight happens all too frequently at Melbourne.

Please....Harmes stopped tagging because he was bad at it last year. He would not have had any impact on Neale who has worked through tags all season. Most overated player on this forum.

Have a look at the games he played in 2018. he was very good in a number of them I believe. At some stage during this season we need to get a look at him to see if he can provide depth.

I would like to see what he brings when he has a well structured defence around him. Smith is not the answer. If he is then you are asking the wrong question. We know what Rivers can bring to t he table and he will develop over time. With the short turn around to the Port game I would like to see some freshness in the team.

It's a good point CHF The Wagner's can run a bit although they are on the fringe they have produced at times. they played a dozen games each in 2019  IMO they did well. I would rather Josh in the side at 190 cm than have a project player in Smith play.  I can't understand what they see in him.

I think Rivers was a bit stiff to be dropped However l would like to think TMac could come in for his excperiece and strength. He started to hold marks get involved with the inclusion of the Weid in the 1st quarter and ended with the eye injury as he was starting look ok.

Unsubstantiated speculation from someone who has has zero actual experience of Goodwin's coaching.

T Mac has to come in. 4 goals in the magoos and he's a very proficient kick for goal - something that was sorely lacking on the weekend.

Wouldn't mind having a look at Swallow who's apparently in contention. He looked ok in a practice match.

One of Harmes or Brayshaw should get dropped after continued ordinary performances and to keep the standards up.

Jetta might be an out when combining a head knock and an ordinary performance.

IN - T Mac, Sparrow

Out - Brayshaw, Jetta (or Jackson if they don't want to go 3 talls.)

Who goes into the back six rotation if you're dropping Jetta and not replacing him with a back pocket or even a back flanker?  Can't see Tom or Sparrow really playing there.

I'd like to get another look at Sparrow at senior level, although I still think he's behind someone like Tomlinson who will get another crack before he goes.

It's a fair point re: Harmes.  Those three are our best midfielders at the minute and deserve as much time in the middle as possible.  Using Harmes in a tagging role is going to take someone out of there, which I think they want to guard against at the minute.

I'd like to see Harmes given a run with role across half forward.  He has a good set of hands and gets to the right spots, and he could be a bit of weapon clamping down on one of their primary runners off half back which would either help us in forcing more turnovers or locking the ball inside our 50.

Fair point about the need to replace Jetta like for like.

I just feel that he won't get selected this week, and they either move the magnets around (and bring in Sparrow as a separate inclusion) or bring in Smith or Rivers as a replacement defender.

Neale was running hot for the 2nd qtr especially, Clarry could have gone forward for a period and Harmes to Neale to clamp down on him and disturb his rhythm.

5 minutes per quarter wouldn't have hurt Polly.

I'd bring in TMac and play Jackson HFF, he'd be a hard match up for a back flanker. Harmes to tag maybe as Wise suggested.

Selectors need to have a good think about Kossi, Bennell, Brayshaw

I agree in terms of selection - I think the coaches like the experience his brings, but he looked off the pace all game and the head knocks won't have done him any favours.

Rivers would be a good option.  I'd prefer him to Smith for the role he will play.

I do hope Sparrow gets a crack in the coming weeks, though.  I think the kid might have a future for us and getting a few games into him would certainly help.

According yo your theory, there's no such thing as bad coaches because they have experience. flawed logic

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
