Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not sure if you were watching the game tonight chell, but Harmes played a lot of game time in the middle, where as Gus played the whole game on the wing.

Harmes was not far behind Brayshaw in being the worst player on the night.

Continues to just give away stupid free kicks which cost momentum or give up a goal to the opposition. The blokes thinks he's Dustin Martin half the time and infuriats me that he has the gonads to always argue back with the umpire when he gets pinged holding the ball all the time.

Just read your Dustin Martin comment.  Great minds...

It's all well and good to have a massive ego if your abilities back it up.

Harmes needs to go. He has been poor all year and likewise Gus has to be sent a message. Bad decision making and poor execution has been the norm for us over the past 18 months and makes me think this group aren’t up to it. Time to try some new blood such as Jordon, Sparrow and maybe Dunkley who was going well prior to injury. I

I wouldn’t be so sure about that.
Goodwin gave him a special gee up at 3 qtr time but he didn’t respond at all.

Harmes is having an ordinary season and there wouldn’t be one game this year where he’s been in our best 6-8.

Like Brayshaw, he’s probably struggling with a clearly defined position on the ground.

Agree 100% with this, Harmes is the most disappointing performer thus far this season IMO, him and Brayshaw playing second fiddle to Trac, Oliver & Viney and not getting the job done.

No chance they drop Jones. First game in a long while. Deserves more chances. Wasn’t any worse than Harmes or Gus.

I would sadly give Jetta a break and depending on conditions I’d consider TMac. We need to get the balance right. I love Weideman and Jackson at the moment. Both have been good (goal kicking aside yesterday) and honestly Jackson more than holds his own in the ruck. With so many short breaks coming up we need to give Gawn some decent breaks or he himself will break and that would be the end of our season.

I'm assuming Brayshaw isn't 100% fit. Otherwise I can't understand his reduced game time. Pickett is really struggling and I would be giving him a rest even if we had a 7 day break. I think Jetta's time has passed. I would rest those three. In addition, if it's time for Bennell to to take a break, now is the week to do so. I'm comfortable with Jackson remaining in the team as he seems to be gaining momentum. I'm assuming Jones can back up again.

As to the replacements, I would bring in Tom McDonald for Pickett (!, thereby playing Jackson as a mobile forward rather than a designated KPF), Hunt for his pace to replace Bennell, Rivers for Jetta and Tomlinson for Brayshaw's vacant wing position. If Jones is also rested, I'd bring in ANB or Sparrow.

Swap Brayshaw with Salam

Out: Jetta unfortunately lost his speed so tries to use his body more, not working for him.

Pickett: will be good in time but not ready yet, don't want to kill his confidence.

Bennell: rest

In: Rivers, T Mac, Bedford

I think Pickett needs a rest, he's certainly having an impact, but not getting involved consistently in games. Bennell also needs a rest, he seemed to have lost any sort of spark he's had over the last few rounds. Also no way Jetta can play, not only because of the head knocks but he also looked slow before those. I wonder if both Harmes and Brayshaw were given less game time to preserve them a little for Port? Both played poorly, but maybe they just tried too hard to have an impact when they went on?

I'd be tempted to rest Pickett and Bennell, while also dropping Jetta and Hannan.

I'd bring in TMac (leaving Melksham deeper forward and letting him run), Rivers (for Jetta), ANB (for Pickett and his fitness/pressure will be handy against Port) and also Hunt (extra speed).

Tommy Mac has a big engine and can easily cover wing/chf/chb chop out.

The tank is not the issue. His lack of speed and agility is the issue. He is as slow as the day is long, and he is not great below his knees. Combine that with his not so great marking of late, and you have yourself a very one dimensional wingman.

If he was back to his marking best, there could be an argument to suggest that he could be a good wingman, and make us less predictable coming out of the backline where we always just kick it long to Max. But his form has been very ordinary of late, that quite frankly if he was to play it needs to be at CHF. Jackson could be pretty good on the wing tho, fitness permitting.

Yep. like I said, I'm going to keep everyone accountable for their mistakes.

Everytime Oliver is one of Melbourne's best players on the night I will remind people that they believe him to be a liability.

That would be half of demonland? Because that is how many you reckon wanted Oliver dropped.

Are you a doctor of applied mathematics by any chance?

Or perhaps you are posting from North Korea and you once shot 23 under in a round of golf.

By the by on Oliver, you should worry about his pace not Omacs. Mids need pace more than key defenders.

Oliver is slow as treacle. I reckon Jones would beat him in a sprint. And Gus would would get close

Want an example. Look at Cameron's second goal. I absolutely love he was busting a gut to chase Cameroon. Awesome and exactly what we need to see. Love it.

But Cameron was gliding and nowhere near top pace and Oliver looked like a choo choo steam train struggling to get up a hill.

Weather looks good for Thursday. Would definitely consider a 3rd tall as Ports defence is a bit undersized. Otherwise I think Harmes needs a break & maybe even Bennell a rest given the 4 day turnaround but again don’t want heaps of changes. We do have some seriously good depth. Jetta shouldn’t play regardless of form...two head knocks even if he kept playing ....I would leave him out.

Jetta shouldn't play precisely because of form. If he happens to need a rest because of the head knocks, that just makes it more palatable publicly. (I was going to say "softens the blow" or "lessens the impact". both of which seem inappropriate terms under the circumstances.)

Wow, are you joking?? Oliver is quick. very quick. How can you say he is slow? He would beat all of our mids over most distances for speed.

That's why I like Oliver. He has speed that none of our other mids have.

Crazy post binman.

Cameron is very quick and was on the burst the fact that Oliver stayed with him and perhaps even gained a bit on him was evidence of his pace.

For context, see these screen shots of top speed and distance run yesterday.

Just to add a comment about Oliver. I was delighted to see him chasing Cameron, even if he didn't catch him. The biggest weakness up to know in Oliver's game has not been his disposal but his willingness to run hard both ways. This year he's improved his kick to handball ratio and improved his two way running. Two big ticks from me.

I'm a fan of fitting in all three of Weideman, Jackson and McDonald into our forward line.

Wonder if they'll consider dropping one of Harmes or Brayshaw and replacing them with TMac, then having him and Jackson rotate between wing and forward?

No 'urgency' from Brayshaw. I haven't heard Goodwin explain why he spends so much time off the ground.

Game has gone past Nev.

Out: Jetta, Brayshaw

In: Rivers, Sparrow

Lucky: Lockhart (possible replacement: Hunt)
Jackson and Kosi must stay

Brayshaw needs to be dropped plain and simple. It's either McDonald comes in or they go like for like and bring in Tomlinson who I also thought was stiff initially to be dropped. Plus he plays the wing role a lot more better then Gus.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
