Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Wait until next season or try to get him this year? He’s an RFA end of 2021 so personally I’d wait until then.

Probably comes down to the form of Hibberd to some degree - even then I'd love to have both of them running around for us in form at the same time

I like some of the suggestions, but we don't have much currency to trade for a lot them as we don't have a first rounder this year and due to compromised draft our 2nd rounder will be worth bugger all and likely fall into the 30s. We'd need to target free agents, and a KPF is still the biggest gaping hole in our list. A quality KPF would IMO rocket us up the ladder 6-7 places.

King would obviously be perfect for us as a KPF. Have to trade for him. Don't believe we have currency and don't believe Suns would let him go. He was taken at pick 6, has more than proven his worth, and likely cost two first rounders now.

Laird would be a good get as a quality small for our backline. Again, would have to trade a first rounder for him and we don't have the currency.

Saad, same as above. Good small rebounder for backline, but not free agent so would cost a first rounder we don't have.

Williams would be good get as a half back/midfielder, though his body lets him down at times. He's a RFA, so if the price is right then he's a good target.

Cameron would be a great KPF for us, but he is on the older side at nearly 30 years old. RFA, so if price is right then wouldn't be opposed to getting him across. He's probably the best target despite his age.

Daniher as a KPF is also an option due to free agency status. His body & head may be shot though, so we can't afford to take a massive financial risk for a player who might rarely play. He should be a fallback option only IMO.

There are other young stars out of contract like Bailey Smith and Harry Perryman who look like they're going to be elite, but we don't have currency to land them. I'd be open to trading a quality player to get Bailey Smith across though. He's the exact type of classy rounded goal kicking midfielder we are lacking. Dogs would never let him go though.

People are going to be disappointed during trade period this year.  It is doubtful that Melbourne will be heavily involved.

Why?

Compromised draft:  we have already given away our 1st round this year to be able to select Pickett last year.  At the time the club said that the compromised draft in 2020 meant picks were not in equivalent value to 2019.  Why would we then try to trade back into the same compromised draft?  If the 2021 draft is less compromised, then we may try to trade for future picks...leave that to Jason Taylor and the experts.

Existing list:  There are players who we haven't seen or barely sighted to this point.  Jordon, Sparrow, Rivers, Nietschke, Baker, Petty, Chandler all look to have something to offer, but can't get a game, because of the strength of the list ( or injury).  If list sizes are reduced, there are a good number of others outside this group who can be discarded, so apart from the required number of draftees ( 3 at the moment) we really don't need any more.

Since it is difficult for players outside our top 22 to get a run at the moment, there would be a chance that other clubs may be interested.  However, you are not going to get a high draft pick for those players.  e.g Sam Frost got Pick 50 and Hawks’ future second-round pick - GAVE AWAY Picks 42, 61 and Demons’ future fourth-round pick. Again, what is the point of 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds picks in a compromised draft, and which we probably don't need or want in any case.

Unless a really good player comes to your club under FA arrangements, you have to give up the equivalent or more to get them.  Gone are the days of "stealing" talent from other clubs.  Even Gold Coast are keeping their high end talent these days.

Sounds like North will test the water and if Brown gets a package that lands them a 1st round pick (#3-#5) they will let him go.

I believe Barrett is a North supporter so he would have good mail.

I post that for info.  Not interested in going after him.

Edit:  To clarify, Brown is out of contract but not an FA,

Only  one problem ... We traded our first round picks last year. We have almost nothing that would be entertained as far as draft picks at this stage.

I'd think Brown would be an asset; however, there are two things I do not like about him, as follows:

  • he fakes, attempts to fake, collapses on contact in front of umpires, rather than standing his ground to gather the ball; and
  • he too infrequently goes to the barber shop, floppy, floppy, fuzzy-flop, flapper.

He can kick them, but his possession rate is reducing.

Surely we don't have the salary cap space for a player the calibre of Williams? In the last few years we've picked up Lever, May, Tomlinson and Langdon. Add that on top of the likes of Gawn, Oliver, TMac and Trac, and I'd imagine that our cap would be fairly full.

Im starting to come around to Ben Brown. He is the right age group and he is solely a FF. But at what cost?

If we swapped Weid for Collingwoods 1st rounder would we get anything more than that pick 15-20 to make the deal with North?

If just a straight swap, would we need to absorb some of his (as I understand it) large contract?

Would we have to add in another player, maybe a midfielder for North to be interested? Brayshaw, Salem?

It sounds over the odds for Big Benny but if we are truly needing Brown for a flag and Ben King and Cameron are unobtainable, who else is ready to go and a true Full forward?

I'd like to see Tomlinson really take the game on. I hope the dropping was a wake up call because he clearly has all the attributes (although he doesn't have much pace) to be a great player.

Agree MF-C. His lack of pace means the “wing” position is not really suited. He has great endurance which leads me to think of him more for CHF or possibly CHB. He’s a good mark and kick. I think his omission is concerning  even after only 4 games. He got a 4 year $$$ deal.

Jones' departure will free up a bit of coin

Have posted it before, and understand some don't like the idea, but Gus for Saad and then Salem takes Gus' role?

With the talk about outside run and wings and all, what happens to Tomlinson?

I don't watch many games other than ours, but he doesn't strike me as someone who using his size enough. He is a run and jump forward, not one that will run through brick walls to create opportunity

Still think Hunt has some value if he can improve his kicking accuracy.....

I’m a fan of Hunt but if we go fishing again then we have to release some money from somewhere. He might have a little bit of trade value currency but I doubt it.

Really can’t see his kicking improving anymore noting hehas been around the club for nearly 7 years now.

Jones, Jetta and Hunt have been favourites of mine at different stages but if moving them on brought in another best 22 player in say a Zac Williams (that we wouldn’t have to trade for) then I’d be all for it.

Would love Cameron or a King boy at our club but you need to move heaven and earth to grab a proven key forward. Ben Brown is fairly under rated here. I’d have him in our team over the current lads.

If Weid/TMac finish the year poorly then I’m happy to make a key forward priority one. But right now, I’m all about simpler improvements and whilst still bringing in high quality kids.

Tom Papley? would be hard to find a good deal for Sydney but he'd be more than handy.

When is he a free agent?

Needs to find form, but we had both he and Gus in the team at the same time previously, so don't think their roles exclude each other.

Will likely be at Carlton next season. Nominated them last trade period, Sydney requested first rounder, Carlton agreed but then deals fell over and they weren't able to get it done. They've already been in dialogue with him again and it's been in the news as recently as today. Either way, we'd need a first rounder for him and we don't have one this year. I wouldn't trade next years for another small forward either. No chance of being a Demon.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
