Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

CHANGES: Rd 08 vs Brisbane

We need to keep a settled team so no changes for me. Brisbane back home albeit at GC will be tough. They are back home and drive 40 minutes down road to game where we fly in Monday and need to settle in again. Will be a great challenge but pull this one off and the Comp and Media will be all over us.

Brisbane have a lot of talls at both ends.

Id be tempted to play TMac, Weid and LJ, which is pretty consistent with most teams.

Big fan of Lockhart, but he’s not quite right since the restart. I’d be tempted to bring back Rivers or Jones.

I agree

T Mac in for Melksham

play LJ as HF hitting wings

lots of marking targets

DBrisbane are a young side playing on confidence

Jackson Rivers Kossie all  get a gig. T Mac can run like a young one ad leave the Weid plenty of space. Fritta should match up well.

Maybe leave out Bradshaw and replace with Jones to give a bit of heavy duty experience around the younger lion cubs.

Langdon, Harmes Hannah showed plenty of pace.

The team gelled today and must have some new confidence so not sure who goes but would be stressing this is a squad for the full intensive season and so it is likely that the team will change for match up, structure etc, involve the players in the process so they decide and fill themselves with no one disappointed and awareness of their role to contribute at 100 %. intensity for the match they are selected. Be prepared to miss the next if necessary for club success.

Please get your facts right. Brayshaws disposal was no worse than some others. He is the player who sees options and creates option. (no player has 100% DE especially when he is trying to take the game on rather than playing conservative football). He has ability to dispose on both sides of his body which is a rare skill in today's football. He is also a very competitive midfielder. Viney's disposal often leaves us exposed, but he brings other aspects to the table. Pickett only had 6 disposals today and no tackles yet some are lauding him . I think he was good also and once he learns to tackle he will be bloody brilliant. No player is perfect.

His first half was abysmal.

Ima big fan of Brayshaw.  His first handful of disposals today were all appalling and I said to my kids, he's gone next week, but he improved as the game went on.  Plus he is a footballer pure and simple.  Can play the lad. He just had a bit of a rough spell out there early on.

I dont have a clue who i'd change, if any.

I think you need Lockhart next week. They’ve got plenty of smalls who can get off the leash (Berry, Cameron et al) so you’re not dropping your quickest lock-down player.

Jackson in allowed Max to drop behind the ball which tactically worked today. They might want to go down that route again next week. Also remember Brisbane play 2x legit ruckmen .

My tip is they’ll go unchanged and give Tom another week off (with goody saying ‘it is a sensitive area so we’re going to be cautious’).

Really smart post.

Hard to understand all the love for TMac to be an automatic selection. I like Tommy, but he's been in terrible form and we've played our best footy with him been on the sideline.

Hard to argue with that (with the possible exception of the first q against the blues, not hat he did anything)

I can't see a change i really can't.

Only concern is the heat that will be applied to Weed from Harris Andrews.

I think the footy department will back in our newly applied system and better connection in the forward half than to recall another Tall.

Would be criminal to drop Action Jackson after his efforts today.

Wouldn’t be against this, if we are to try the 3 tall forward line then one of Fritta, Melksham, or Hannan has to go and on output you’d probably say Melksham.

I’m still leaning towards no change though.

I don't feel comfortable dropping Jackson for TMac.

Having said that, we won't beat Brisbane if we can't compete inside 50 in the air (just as we couldn't beat West Coast in Round 1 without having competition in the air for McGovern et al).

Maybe TMac in for Melksham or vandenBerg, but I don't think that works well.

I'm inclined to say we go in unchanged (unless we're worried about aerobic fitness for a cram of games and need to rest some players to keep them going).

People are calling for Lockhart to make way but did he play on Wingard? If so, as Wingard only had 10 touches (yes, 2 goals, but IMO no real impact on the game outside that), I think that was a job well done. I also think Lockhart is our only option for Charlie Cameron, other than Smith but I just can't stomach bringing Smith in and dealing with his erraticness against a top 4 side.

Abysmal definition is - immeasurably low or wretched : extremely poor or bad.

I will have to watch the replay. While I agree he made some mistakes is the adjective really accurate or did he do some good things too?

I reckon Jackson gave us more than Tommy has this season.

He took some grabs, was very lively around the centre bounces and added the forward pressure with some nice tackles.

He needs a few games on the trot now.

Sometimes you get an injury at an inopportune time and this is one for Tom, he can wait until something opens up.

His form was nowhere near good enough to be an automatic selection...

Lockhart, Jackson, Brayshaw -> Rivers, TMac, Jones

Jackson shows plenty of promise, but I still think that TMac currently offers more. Lockhart and Brayshaw have had two poor games in a row, and considering the fixture squeeze that's going to be coming up, I think it's important to keep players fresh. Vandenberg on notice, Tomlinson a possibility to replace.

I love it (hilarious) when supporters put players 'on notice" and why AVB?

Interesting to see a lot of people want Lockhart out, I can't see another match up for Charlie Cameron.  I think he might be a little quick for Nev, so I'd start Lockhart on him and have Nev in my back pocket if that fails.

No change for me.

Steve May is the only match up for Charles Cameron. About as quick as we've got to chase him on the lead and can hopefully hold him off and out mark him a few times to unsettle him. But we'll need someone like Lockhart at ground level to get on to the loose balls as well.

Only Viney and Harmes had more pressure acts than AVB which I've no doubt is one stat that coaches rate far higher than the average supporter.

No chance he comes out,  we are a better team when he plays,  have been for years.

He redeemed himself in the second half by geez the poor disposal and turnovers from him were bad.

Close. The only way we’re taking Cameron out of the game is by taking Cameron out of the game. May on Stef Martin revisited.

I think Melksham has done enough to keep his spot. Given he does little defensively and is now playing up high he was the logical move if you wanted Tom and a taller lineup but I think Jake stays. He seems to be the leader of the forward line as well. Would be nice if he could just go 1 week without throwing the ball or giving away a 50.

The only other move I'd think about is whether Bennell is fit enough to go on a wing and provide class from the wing, and then Tom goes in forward with Melk moving in to Harley's rotation and with Vanders out.

But I think Vanders is a decent match up on paper for Mitch Robinson and it's best not to rush Harley from where he's been doing well.

Vanders absolutely has to start hitting some targets. By hand as much as foot. But he sets the tone defensively and the midfield defending has been so much better since he moved to the wing at half time against the Tigers.

Lockhart - one bad dropped mark, but otherwise he competes defensively and the talent to step and opponent and run is evident, surely we're just finding out if he's really up to the level, keep going with him.

I am flabbergasted at the number of people tht think TMAC walks back in for Jackson. The argument that Harris Andrews will get a hold of Weed and Jackson astounds me. What astounds me is tht I can just imagine Tom being moved under the ball all day and not bothering to put his hands in the air to make a contest. Then I picture him turning like the titanic when the ball does hit the deck. He has offered nothing this season. Sadly looked to have maybe turned the corner in the game when he suffered the injury. That’s on the basis of 1 quarter. Last season was much the same. Sorry, but Jackson is a competitor and offers more at ground level. He at least crashes the pack and leaps high enough to impact it.

No changes for mine, but Jones for AVB or Sparrow for Lockhart wouldn’t disappoint me

structurally it's the only change that makes sense unless you, as @DeeSpencer suggested, push melksham out, which is extrezzo unlikely as he's very much the leader of that forward brigade, or one of bennell or avb

Jackson allows Gawn to set up defensively. The whole basis of the game plan today. No way he goes out. One of the dumbest calls going around here atm. Two weeks ago McDonald was being lambasted by all and sundry and we bring in a kid who holds his own and impacts the game, with huge upside and people quickly forget McDonalds last season and half??

Totally with you...structurally it makes a lot more sense to leave Jackson in.

Besides the fact that Tom has done nothing over the last 18 months to deserve an automatic recall.

This 22 stays for mine...

I'm not entirely sure how the structure changed this week with Jackson compared to Tom for 1/4 last week. I think Tom was starting to lead and jump at the ball better the last few weeks and can still crash a pack as well as a kid in his second game. And either he or Weid could do the forward ruck work and 2 minutes a quarter to rest Max.

The most obvious difference between Tom and Jackson, and (Weid and Jackson) was Jackson's forward pressure. That's the one area where he did a few things that made a subtle but important difference.

The 2 biggest factors in Max's dominance down the line more than the talls have been 1: forward pressure and 2: the skinny ground limiting options for the long down the line kick.

That said, it's the perfect opportunity to make a disguised statement about Tom's form. Plus with all the short breaks Tom will be back in soon enough I'm sure.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
