Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Modern footy is a million miles away from the one on one game it was in the 80s and not the 90s. It will never go back there. Deal

Seems to be the norm across all sports.  I think its just become too 'professional' and too much money involved.

I loved the NBA in the 90s....     all they do is shoot three pointers now and there are no true Centres any more... it is so boring.

BTW how Tom Mitchell ever won a brownlow is beyond me.

You couldn't find a more bland and boring footballer who racks up useless stats that has zero influence or hurt factor.

I said it at the time he won the Brownlow. He’s devalued the award now. Cheap stats

We haven't beaten Hawthorn more than 3 times in  succession in home and away plus finals since round 8 of 1967  to round 18 of 1968 .

52 YEARS ? WOW !  That is quite a while  ago. I traced it back because l couldn't remember having the wood on them.since the early 60s.

The last time we actually beat Hawthorn 3 times in a row in H&A was from Round 2 1994 - Round 8 1995. That doesn't include finals of course as we didn't play another final against them until the SF in 2018.

Thats a really sad stat considering the Hawks were a poor to average team for a solid decade from approximately 1996-2006.

They made the bottom 4 quite a few times.

Good catch  DW  However the years are part of what l gave because l was looking for that 3 in succession .

Round 6 of 19 to 64 to round 18 of 1968  7 in Succession.  Check just in case l missed another between 64 - 68.

I'm looking forward to the day when our midfield of Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, Viney and Brayshaw is as ominous as Garner, Marshall, Holding, Roberts and Croft.

Garner was a change bowler, remember? OMG.

This is just inventing what happens in the box, just to suit narrative/agenda. Goody’s started listening to his assistants and now we’re good. Or Goody’s stopped listening to his muppet assistants and become an authoritarian, and that’s what has made us good. Or, the most likely thing, the relationship with the assistants is the same as it always was, and they’ve arrived at the right chemistry by chipping away at the problem together.

We don’t know though, so we shouldn’t guess. In my view if we’re prepared to unreservedly put the blow torch on Goodwin when we’re struggling then we have to be prepared to give him all the credit when we’re flying. Anything otherwise is complete double standards.

For the record, I do neither.

So Nash does that mean you have no standards?

Coaches votes are in:

10 Christian Petracca (MELB)
8 Max Gawn (MELB)
5 Clayton Oliver (MELB)
3 Jack Viney (MELB)
2 Steven May (MELB)
1 James Sicily (HAW)
1 Sam Weideman (MELB)

What great encouragement for Sam to have caught the eye of at least one coach.

To detail the votes:
5/5  Petracca
4/4  Gawn
3/2 Oliver
3/0  Viney
2/0  May
1  Sicily
1  Weideman.
First 3 similarly rated by coaches.  One coach rated Viney and one coach rated May.

Fab to see Christian 3rd.  Great reward for his work in pre-season and in the last 6 rounds.

Some commentators are questioning why it has taken 6 years for him to start fulfilling his potential.  I reckon that is harsh as he spent his first year out with an ACL.  Last year he had a good season, not great but good and as we were a poor team we didn't make the most of it.

And to have Max at 8th bodes well for him and the mighty dees!

Also remember they have played one less game than everyone else.

Great individual efforts but backed up by very good players around them.

Would be very curious to know which coach gave which one vote to Sicily and Weideman.

Also somewhat surprised to see May in there.

Really enjoy the coach's votes - they give a great insight.

PETRACCA  5, 5

GAWN  4, 4

OLIVER 3, 2

VINEY  3

MAY  2

SICILY  1

WEIDEMAN  1

I don't recall Sicily impacting the game so purely a guess that Clarkson 1 to Sicily and Goodwin 1 to Weideman to reflect they played to instructions and more than fulfilled the role assigned.

I'm wondering who didn't give Viney any votes...

Thinking man's football - as good as Stan Alves' blind turns, almost. Amazing evasion, with great potential. (Grab him by the collar at training one night, Stanley, to teach him your magic with the baulk and blind turns. He has the footwork skills and the pace.)

Trac and Gawn clearly our best two players on the weekend.

Good to see Sam Frost chatting with a few players after the match. He was ok for the dorks and I cannot remember one clanger or shocking turnover. Kept it steady with 20 metre passes. Certainly no long runs or panic attacks. Maybe they’re dosing him up on Valium!

100% agree, over professionalised and over coached.  Still at least last round a number of team were determined to take the game on.  I miss the Hakeem, Robinson, Shaq, Ewing, Mutombo, Daugherty, Mourning days (yep im sounding old)

I'm not.  He was terrific down back for us on the weekend.  Couldn't get anything past him, although you almost wish those votes could go to the whole defensive unit for their effort in keeping the Hawks to 7 goals.

Agree, it's a bit ridiculous. Dusty didn't stamp himself as an elite player until his 8th year, and it feels like he's been dominating forever now.

Patience is a virtue.

The consecutive wins Rnd 22 and Elim Final 1990 were special - stopped their run for three premierships in a row. Like Paul Simon's boxer, I take some comfort there.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
