Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I have see a lot of demon's games.

In all seriousness i don't think i can recall a more dominate display by a Melbourne player than Maxy tonight. He was next level.

I'll watch the replay (something i could never do back in the day) but that may well be the best game of footy i have seen a demons' player play - Robbie included.

Trac was a star and  played one of his best games he has ever played. Killed it. But remarkably will only get two brownlow votes for his trouble.

Some exciting signs that we are well in the mix particularly with our lack of injuries compared to other teams losing players everywhere!

I was thinking about this the other day as well. Fingers crossed our injury luck holds up but at the moment TMac is the only injury concern and should be available next week whereas other clubs have players dropping like flies.

One thing that annoyed me about the game was that the Hawks clearly went in with a tactic to block Max out of all marking contests. A couple were done subtle enough but most were blatant. He only got one free kick for it the whole day but it was clearly a strategy directed from the coaches to limit his impact. It didn't work but it did nullify him in a few contests.

In case it hasn't been noted by anyone else...

Sam Weideman is currently No.2 behind only Charlie Dixon for contested marks per game.

AND

Sam Wiedeman is currently number one in the AFL for marks inside 50 per game.

AND

Sam Weideman is also equal first for goals per game.

On a non-Sam note, Fritsch is 3rd for marks inside 50 per game, but his aren't as noticeable because his job seems to be to provide the wide lead and then assess - kick it to someone in a better spot (which is does pretty well) or take the shot.  Everyone should take regular moments to remind themselves of that role when they see Fritta's poor-looking accuracy - he's typically taking the shots from 45 out on the boundary.

It was very interesting seeing the more senior players going out of their way to give goals to the first year players.  Even the Weid declined a set shot directly in front of goal to give Jackson a freeby.

His hand pass through a mob of Hawks to create a goal was sublime.

Maybe. I reckon there's a chance he didn't realize he had marked it.

That handball was unenviable. Vision and it must of traveled 20 metres (funny release action too ie up around his head).

What was also great about that play was he involved in that scoring chain in the centre with a tap forward (almost a throw) and kept running forward to get involved.

Trac was good in that passage too.

Trac's kick to Weid in the square was just incredible. A real highlight for me.

We dominated all day and won the free kick count 17 to 16

BTW how Tom Mitchell ever won a brownlow is beyond me.

You couldn't find a more bland and boring footballer who racks up useless stats that has zero influence or hurt factor.

It's the sort of kick he's been trying his entire career and it has rarely come off. But everything's coming together for Trac now, which is great.

15 marks inside 50

19 contested marks

Amazing

That is amazing. When was the last time we had stats for marking anywhere near that?

I think we had 12 marks inside 50 last week, which is testament to our better entries and leading patterns.

But no where near that many contested marks.

Didn't hurt that Clarkson the wonder coach decided on true left field plan of kicking it to our ruck man all game.

That was very good to watch. The opposition weren't much chop and the early O'Brien injury definitely helped us, but:

- our ball movement was excellent.

- our defensive zone was the best it's ever been (first time we've had the double wall up with so much space between the two zones - the double press, loved it).

- our forwardline pressure and energy was good (need to stick more of those tackles), but very 2018.

That was one of Max's best games. He's so much better floating across half back. Good support from Jackson and Weideman in the air too.

Oscar played one of his best games too. Spoilt everything and was always in the right spot. May panics a bit for my liking, and the defensive chemistry isn't quite there yet, but it's definitely getting there. Lockhart may well be a replacement for Nev afterall.

Petracca obviously so clean and in everything. I'm not sure what's happened to Oliver's field kicking between the arcs, but I was happy with his game as well. He's so pivotal to so much of what we do.

One of the other things I really liked was our ability to set up around stoppages and marking contests. It was very Richmond and the first time I'd seen us do it so consistently within game. Our big guys were just concerned with bringing the ball to ground for our smalls to go to work and we really ran well in waves.

Gus is still a big worry for me, but was involved in some good play too, but sides often play through his opponent when he's on the wing and they exploited this early in the game.

Kozzie and Bennell really excite me. Kozzie has that awareness of Cyril and very Hawthorn in the way he taps it forward and to advantage. Langdon's running and cleanness was important too and overall, I think our team balance was the best it's been for a long time. We're a lot less predictable without McDonald and Jackson should definitely stay in next week.

Maxi’s kicking really improved over 1 week.  ?

It's also partly a coaching/structural change: the two tall forwards is IMO clearly working. Both Jackson and Weideman presented up onto the wings when we needed an outlet and knew that there was the other one deeper ready to make the next contest. Takes the aerial pressure off Fritsch who gets to play third tall, as he should.

And it's also, clearly, improved ball movement. Less rushing, fewer manic handballs, less playing on, and fewer turnovers, meaning we can get some momentum going forward.

Yep, I reckon having two presenting tall targets and Gawn roaming around as well enables us to go a lot slower.

I was impressed by how we went quickly when it was on, but played tempo to contests and got the required runners to those contests where required.

It really was the most full performance we've put together, potentially ever under Goodwin.

Great win, strangled them and they could never get going.

Loved Weideman's play on the wing, got a hospital handball from a teammate and made the ball his goal while Stratton went for the cheap hit. Took a lot of guts.

Totally under played part of the match!

Weid showed he is up for the fight with that play.

If we played Essendon and beat them this week, we'd be in the eight.

We're not far off the bottom 4, but we're just as close to the top 8 IMO.

Good win, but we need to back it up. Hawthorn are in a different place to us. We need to beat a team in the 8 before we start thinking we are out of Hell. Its a good start and the game was enjoyable to watch.

Gold Coast are currently 6th, and were in the 8 when we beat them last week.

This was the big thing for me. Great first half then hawks adjust a few things, come out cracking in the third quarter and kick the first two. And you think here we go again. Normally we lose confidence but we did not panic, didn't lose our shape and ended up winning the quarter. You could see it took the wind out of Hawthorns sails and we had it back on our terms.  it was game over.

Special mention to the NSW Dees supporters, do not know the attendance at the game but sounded like a Pro Dees crowd. Great to hear the barracking from the side lines in these strange times.

You’re welcome! Awesome game to go to. There was just as many Hawthorn there but they were quieter for some reason?

Go Dees!

Kudos to the recruiting genius who had the foresight to persist with Bennell - the handball to Hannan was sublime. One of those players who seems to slow down time when he has the ball. Will win us a game off his own boot in the not too distant future. Only glimpsing his talent atm

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
