Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Time we had some "truth in broadcasting"

1. Location of commentators

2. Crowd noise.... real or supplemented

And while we're at it gt rid of Bruce and BT. Bruce has notes a la his old Olympic days about favourite players. It's boring.

I don't need them to tell me "he kicks the ball forward" etc etc

I couldn't stand anymore tonight DJ. Hit the mute button and I synced up the radio. So much more enjoyable.

Bruce is now unlistenable,  I can't handle it.

I wanted him over Pickett in the draft when the word got around that we were after a small forward in the first round.

Time will tell, but hopefully both will be guns and provide X-factor for the fans.

I did too. I also wanted Green or Young instead of Jackson. Rivers was one of the two I wanted once we got the 20s pick however. I think we made the wrong choices with the high picks, but it’s in the past now and I support the players that are now in red and blue. Pickett is very exciting and shows glimpses of greatness.

Doggies are probably the best team to watch in 2020. They win contested ball but also have a good fast brand played through the corridor. They have genuine stars and X factor. Good to see them beating some of the less like able teams!

If TV's are supposedly smart as we are told, why can't we have "commentary off" and "crowd effects on" options?

Would set both of those to default on any Chanel 7 AFL programs if they did.

Essendon's percentage dropping by more 15 and going back down under 100, and likely dropping out of the eight, is always a welcome part of any round of football.

It's a note on the sheet abotu how long scoring this season has been, too.  Our percentage may look pretty rough at 87% but that is still only a 40 point margin.

Geelong's spot on the ladder is largely the product of their one good smashing... of Hawthorn.  Looking forward to us taking out turn!

The Dogs also jumped 7 spots on the ladder with one win.

It's very even through the middle of the ladder. With our game in hand, we're nowhere near as far off the top 8 as it felt after the Richmond loss.

In saying that, we're also only percentage off 17th. Again, it's even.

Obviously didn't watch last week when they were rubbish.

I am also intrigued who these so called genuine stars??

He looks good, but his pace isn't great.  That will hurt him as a small forward.  Tough as hell though.

Weightman is more of a lead of forward like Elliot. We have Hannan and Fritsch already in that role.

I think this every week.

I turned off the game last night and watched the Dees v Suns game again. Unfortunately the commentary from Gary and Jonno Brown was worse.

You'd think this would have occurred to the TV stations by now.

Because they could say to the commentators, "turns out only 50% of viewers listen to the commentary, so you're not as important as we thought, so you, you're taking a pay cut, and you, you're fired."

And they could pay some teenager minimum wage to push the button on a crowd sound effect mp3 they downloaded for free. "Audio department? Boss here. You're all fired."

I’m a bit surprised it’s not a thing either, the broadcasts that get sent around to the networks typically have a mixed audio (with coms) on the first two channels and the effects audio from the ground on the 3rd and 4th channel. There are probably more mixes happening because of no crowd but I’d be very surprised if it couldn’t be a relatively easy option to create on the TVs.

I’d be a strong supporter of being able to choose different radio stations commentary as well. Some of the commentators on Seven in particular are infuriating.

Pates l have Kayo so I can pause the stream but I'm sure you can do the following even with free to air with modern smart TVs.

Step 1. Mute Bruce and all the other tripe on ch7. (it is now horrendous and ruins the game)

Step 2. Listen to your choice of radio through the AFL app on your phone and play thru your Bluetooth speaker.

Step 3 Pause the stream/live TV until it is in sync with the radio call.

There were about 7 radio stations to choose from,  even WA or SA stations for the masochists.

I can't tell you how much more enjoyable an experience it is.

Just heard on 3aw that Bruce calls from Adelaide with BT in Melbourne and the boundary rider Hodge in Brisbane.

No wonder it's so bad.

I thought Hodge was both underutilised and underwhelming.

Calls out for local commentary but as many have mentioned Ch 7 seems to think that the callers are the stars !!!

Surely WA has excellent commentators for example as would SA.

PS.. was watching the Hungarian GP practice session. Track nowhere near as scenic as Austria. Whoever was mixing the sound had no idea.Commentators could hardly be heard over the cars. My natural reaction is to turn up the sound and well.... that didn't work. Hope they fix it for qualifying tonight.

Be very careful about having wagers on TAB with regard to totals for players. Not for the first time this season checked my totals of disposals on the AFL web site at 3/4 time, seeing if i was in with a chance in last qtr to achieve the required number.

Example: today Zorko had a 3/4 time total of 17  at least before the third qtr was finished. Had another five in the last qtr at least.

Something smells here........ amazing how many blokes have finished the games with totals of 19 or 18 and 23 or 24.???

He’s a great prospect, but all of this fawning over Rankine by the commentators is getting tiresome! Derm was just creaming himself over the fact that he was running alongside the ball carrier heading towards goal!

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
