Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Are the coaches asking too much of Lord Nev and setting him up to fail with the matchup tasks they set for him?

Granted i don't believe anyone thought Rankine would be quite as electric as he was but he absolutely torched him for pace.

And previous game he played r2 vs Carlton he was expected to clean up the coaches mess and play on MacKay who has him covered twice over for height......WTF!

We all love Nev and his ability to cover tall & small has been outstanding over the years but surely he has also earns the right to be appropriately matched up each week. the art of coaching is surely largely about getting the best out of your players and having Jetta play roles like this to cover for the coaching groups one dimensional game style is having a negative effect on his career.

He has to play on someone, and he is one of our most experienced, so if he isnt up to the job of taking the best small(ish) backman he shouldnt get selected.

Nev is on the downward part of his career now unfortunately. It happens to everyone, even legends like Nev.

It will be a very sad day when he retires.

Wish i had a daughter old enough to marry him.... ❤️

totally agree he is on the downward spiral but surely that should mean the next in line is looking to step up and take the red hot small opposition player allowing jetta to then destroy 2nd/3rd best or play as a spare chopping off contests like he has done so many times in the past years.

dont worry about not having him as a son in law just think we're only 8-10 years away from recruiting his kids under father son rule!

He doesn't have the fitness or attacking game to play as a half back. So he'll always be deep. If they play more of a zoning system at times he'll end up covering a tall outside 50 whilst the bigger boys drop back. A lot of fuss about Jetta holding up McKay 50m from goal a couple of times.... Otherwise if they play man on man he'll have to line up on smalls who have him for pace.

Look around the comp and the small lock down defenders are going out of fashion. Essendon called time on Baguley. The Saints are using Geary forward at times. Nick Smith's time ended at the Swans.

The Hawks back pockets are Stratton and Frost - quick guys with the speed to play small and the height to switch opponents and take intercept marks.

Geelong have an entire backline 186cm+ with Bews, Mark O'Connor, Henry etc as the deeper mid sized guys.

I hope I"m wrong and Nev can bounce back but we can't just hide him on lesser opponents.

Everyone has a dip in form at some stage.  Right now, that's what is in front of Nev.  He has been terrific for us for so long, but right now he just seems a step or two behind his normal output for us.

I can understand why some want to right him off, especially at his age, but I'll back him in to bounce back in the coming weeks.  I still think he has a role to play for us, at least for this season and into the next.

Hope you are right, but I think you might be wrong. At least Nev will feel young next week, the Hawks have 7 players in the likely side who are 31 or older.

Didn't Lockhart play on Rankine for his first 2 goals? The 3rd one was on Nev but it was also a horrendous tap.

Definitely not in peak form, but maybe a bit harsh judging it on someone he wasn't even playing on most of the time.

Now that we've got a more solid mix of tall backs I'm backing Nev in to find some decent form again very soon.

Lockhart was doing a shut down role on Ainsworth for the night.

I don't particularly think Rankine making Jetta look bad is a huge part of the problem, the kid is freakish, but it's Nev's lack of impact in general that has me worried.

In 3 games he's had 2 tackles - one of the great tackles our club has had in years and he can't get near guys. He's had 4 marks and is averaging 7 touches - even allowing for shorter quarters that's a big drop off. He doesn't look like providing any thing with the ball and he doesn't look nearly as composed when marking.

Something very odd happened in that Gold Coast game with both Jetta and Lockhart both barely touching it, whilst McPherson didn't get near it for the Suns and Sexton, Ainsworth and Holman didn't get much ball either, nor did the Suns big guys. So maybe just an odd occurrence from a statistical point of view. But the stats really are just highlighting what the eyes are seeing which is a guy who seems to have lost a step and isn't as sure of his capabilities.

2 of rankines goals were a touch lucky.... blind snap and soccer goal. Don’t get me wrong he oozes danger in forward stoppages but he exposed our lack of homework (which was hard given it was his first game) - let’s see what he does in the next few games with the extra attention he’ll be getting now.

Don’t worry about Nev. Form doesn’t matter. Given the bloke that he is, he MUST be a coach favourite so will get a game next week! ?

Yep, as mentioned, he's definitely not in great form, I was more pointing out that basing the criticism on the performance of a player he wasn't on most of the night is a bit unfair.

That's the thing, I think both Nev and Jones have rolls to pay this season and next, we are already a young side so we need some balance

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
